Ok, so i tried using my bf's Laptop (which has an I7 processor in it and 8 gb of ram) and it works perfectly. A few seconds of glitch and it's been seamless since then. The media tower I have connected to the tv must not have a good enough processor and/or graphics card to deal with streaming.
It seems like it's working great for some and for others, not as well. I can look into a UStream alternative next time... we're just trying to provide the feed as a way for people who can't make it to the event to see it, and we want to keep it free of charge. It's hard to get something to work without hiccups for everyone across the country with different connections, types of computers, etc. Frankly, I think it's amazing we can do this at all. But we are doing the best we can. I'm sorry that there are some people experiencing frustration with the stream.
I'm getting an excellent feed all the way in Massachusetts, and I what to Thank Haakon for making this possible - my whole family is at the competition except me - and it is GREAT to be able to watch the performers!!! Thanks SO MUCH!!!!

18 mbps fiber optic connection. speed test says right around 18 to 19 mbps. Still choppy. It's not dependent on connection. Definitely a Ustream issue.
It's working really well here with no skips or anything. I'm on a cable modem but I don't know how many mbps that is.

I just tested it offsite and it seems to be running fine; again, it's dependent upon your internet connection and how well it interfaces with the server. I think Alex is right that after 5-10 minutes it has a chance to buffer and tends to run more smoothly. But everything is a-OK on this end.
The feed seems to be less choppy and it stops cutting out after watching for a while. After 5-10 minutes it just streams perfectly. This happened with Fairfield too. I don't know if that works for anyone else, but it works that way for me.
Please use http://www.showchoir.com/live/ as I don't have control over the other content that displays on the non-SCC page. The stream is identical; any skipping is just a bandwidth issue dependent on your internet connection. We've tried to balance quality with low data rate to provide you with an optimal experience... streaming to several hundred people at one time is a tricky thing!
