The SoCal competition started in 1995. For the advanced mixed division, here's a breakdown of all of the Grand Champions:
1995 - Bonita Vista "The Music Machine"
1996 - Bonita Vista "The Music Machine"
1997 - Bonita Vista "The Music Machine"
1998 - Bonita Vista "The Music Machine"
1999 - Burbank "In Sync"
2000 - Burbank "In Sync"
2001 - Bonita Vista "The Music Machine"
2002 - John Burroughs "Powerhouse"
2003 - John Burroughs "Powerhouse"
2004 - John Burroughs "Powerhouse"
2005 - Burbank "In Sync"
2006 - John Burroughs "Powerhouse" / Burbank "In Sync" (tie)
2007 - Burbank "In Sync"
2008 - Burbank "In Sync"
2009 - Burbank "In Sync"
A few interesting SoCal-related tidbits:
Ron Bolles, who founded the Music Machine in 1976, retired from Bonita vista in 1999 (and if you look at the results, you can see just how much of a factor a director is on a group!). He now judges SoCal.
Michelle Jensen, a former student of John Burroughs, founded Burbank's show choir in 1998 and retired in 2001. She was able to make a Grand Champion-winning show choir in just 2 years. Until last year, she was a judge at SoCal.
Only three groups have ever won SoCal: Burbank's "In Sync" (7 times, including the tie), Bonita Vista's "The Music Machine" (5 times), and John Burroughs "Powerhouse" (4 times, including the tie).
2007 resulted in a tie between Burroughs and Burbank as in 2006, but in 2007, the tie was broken with the music score.
Me too Burbank defeated Burroughs that year, didn't they? With Hart in third? I can't really remember lol.
Advanced Mixed Division:
GRAND CHAMPION: Burbank "In Sync"
Second Place: John Burroughs "Powerhouse"
Third Place: Hart "Sound Vibrations"
Fourth Place: Los Alamitos "Sound FX"
Fifth Place: Carlsbad "Sound Express"
Musicianship: Burbank "In Sync"

Ok so I'm in Eastlake High School Center Stage and I've heard a lot about this competition (being this is my first year) and I can't wait!!!!!
And even though we're gunna compete on friday, I hope to buy a ticket and show up to watch the show on saturday, SOOOOOOO EXCITED!!!!!!!!! :D
Hey, I can not wait for SOCAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It is going to be soo much fun, and I'm sure there is already an exorbitant amount of energy and excitement brewing up amongst all of the groups even though it is not for another month.
I hope to see everyone from other groups that I haven't seen in a while, and I'm sure our director hopes you'll all have his published novel with you, and I'm SURE he wouldn't be embarrassed AT ALL if you asked him to sign it!!! LOL. (it's called DIMENSIONS: The Wheat Field (first book of a series))...you DIDN'T hear it from me, because idk if he will actually be embarrassed, so...yeah, lol, I dont want to get in trouble.
and I am still wondering--because our director had asked if our men's group, the Thundercats, wanted to perform there, and we were all for it, but is it too late or no? because I believe we asked a while back but idk
I CAN'T WAIT!! I hope it is even more fun than Arcadia!
Also-come see Joseph and the amazing technicolor dreamcoat at Brea Olinda HS. We are performing the 25th, 26th, and 27th and 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. COME!!
