Since two outside groups are going to Chula, does that mean there's FINALS this year?
Wow! I didn't know Pleasant Hill and Oliver Ames were attending. This is starting to shape up, well who am I kidding, it is a heck of a competition.
I'm the director of an East Coast show choir, but born and partially raised in California! I will be visiting my family in Santa Cruz during spring break, and I had a glimmer of hope for a second that this competition was the week I'll be on the West Coast...but it's the week after. :-( I would so be hopping on a plane from NorCal to SoCal.
I get confused on the AA/AAA or A/B thing, too. We're a smaller show choir and even all the Virginia comps don't use the same terminology and I get confused. I like A and B better than AA/AAA. But I could certainly get used to any one thing used consistently.
This sounds like a great comp.! Good luck to everyone!
I think this is great, Tony. Today's show choir is just as much the art and science of production design, technical direction and performance technique as it is choral singing. And we've all seen show choir shows where clearly the director knows very little about appropriate show elements. Likewise, in those instances where the singing is top-notch all around and show elements are the most obvious differences between outstanding groups, the outcome will be determined by the personal preferences and taste levels of the adjudicators. In such cases, I would value much more the opinion of the show business professional, than another teacher.
Here are the judges and the days they will be judging.

Ron Bolles (former director of Bonita Vista)
Ron Jesse (former director at Monte Vista and now Director of Visual and Performing Arts of San Diego County!)

and Lance Bass (former Clinton Attaché and Pop group *N SYNC) - SHOW
The ULTIMATE Show Choir boy success story!
Even though the "celebs" are only judging Show, they will be commenting on Vocals as well. All four judges are very qualified and I am very excited for April 16 and 17!
We all know how schedules of the celebrity life can go hectic, so I am hoping the business won't take them away from this event, between now and then - like a new tv deal or movie or something. Both Lance and Mark are very excited to see you all, and with Bolles and Tebay, this should be a wonderful panel!
Tickets can be bought through your director ($20 presale per day) All others can purchase tickets at the door for $25. Please see the info on showchoir.com for venue.
We are happy to have Missouri and Massachusetts on Saturday with us! Please give them a warm California welcome!
We are happy to return to Golden Hall once again! Our event will be held there for the next 10 years. While other fantastic venues seat anywhere from 1200 to 1500 audience members... Golden Hall can seat 4,000! This place is EPIC.. ask anyone who performed there from 1999 to 2004

Yes, You're correct they will be there!
Where will it be this year?? Looking forward to it!
Address (and map, too!) at the top of the page.
What is the difference between AA and AAA.
It's based on the size of your choir, but you can move up a level if you so choose. Hart was in the AA division at Diamond Bar, but has opted to compete in AAA for SoCal.
I agree that although well-intentioned, it's rather confusing. I am working on a standard division system for all events that the website will begin using so that there is unity across the country. Competition organizers may choose to adopt it or not, but the hope is at least things will be more easy to understand on the site.
I'll start this thread off since I think there is going to be quite a bit of talk about this one in the coming weeks...
The last competition of the year, the Southern California Show Choir Invitational (or simply "SoCal," as it is affectionately known) will lay host to some of the best show choirs in the country at the top of their game. Together with the usual list of suspects from California, this year will also welcome groups from Missouri and Massachusetts. It is sure to be one jam packed day of show choir.
Oh... and if that weren't enough, joining the esteemed panel of judges this year for the first time ever will be Mark Walberg (reality TV host of Temptation Island and Moment Of Truth), and former *N SYNC member Lance Bass. Besides selling a gazillion records with *N SYNC, you may remember Lance from his days in a little show choir from Mississippi... what was the name again... oh yeah, Clinton Attaché...
