So. It's kind of a long shot right now. But there is a pretty decent chance I may be attending this competition.

So I'm assuming that IC West is sending their prep group to state contest, because otherwise the IHSMA would be pimp smacking their program if they didn't send a group there and still competed

Yes, "Showtime" is coming to Muscatine for State Contest that day.

Washington never competes outside of IHSMA because we let the Jazz Bands and Choir have their day. Plus with all the logistics it's just better to wait. Vivace and Celebration used to go some years to get critiqued basically (it really is a waste of time).

I had a great time at state my freshman year (the only time ive been there as a show choir). The fire alarm went off, and we all had to go outside in the freezing weather, and i got to meet a TON of really cool people from Jefferson who changed my life. hahahah also that day Ovation was performing and they went WAY over the time limit, and Eley couldnt hear the judge telling them to stop, so this old dude went to the corner of the stage and started screaming at them. one by one the performers stopped dancing and just stared at him. it was sorta funny. sad, but REALLY REALLY funny. really i shouldnt bash on IHSMA, because i suppose i had a fun time there, but it really is a waste of time.

Westside has always had to fight against the whole Iowa state competition thing on this date. A lot of Iowa schools have figured out ways to make it work by either competing early in the day at state and then performing late at COE, or by sending their JV/Prep choir to compete. Some schools have said they won't be able to do the COE even though they would like to because of state. Correct me if I'm wrong here Iowa people, but does state have some sort of jazz band portion as well? I feel like some schools have said that is one reason that they cannot make it.

With all that said, I'm pretty excited for COE this year. I'll be working as a judge's assistant so I'll hopefully be able to catch most groups.

Total waste of time.

We've always gone to state contest. It really is a total waste of time. Since we are typically assigned a somewhat weak district, every year it's judges telling us we're the best show they've seen all day, blahblah. It's basically a feel good about yourself thing. (Last year we even had a perfect ballot I think from one of the judges). The judges aren't terribly difficult, especially in NW iowa with the abundance of weak 1A/2A groups. LeMars has something like 17 straight 1 ratings at state (since we started a show choir).

I would have much rather gone to a legit competition than state contest.

You don't have to go to State Contest, you are just not allowed to compete or hold a competition on that day without sending a group to go to State Contest. We never go

Total waste of time.

Is this why there are precisely 0 competitions in Iowa this day? You have to go to some "state contest"?

hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahha

Idk why Indiana people complain about the ISSMA so much, we definitely have it worse here in Iowa... those people are CRAZY!

Because they always have to be "better" then us, even if it involves having it worse ;) *cue a Scott debate*

Just one quick correction.
This year Raston's varsity goes by RUSH, instead of Superstars.
I'm super excited for this competition!
