You don't see respresentation from a lot of the big choirs in IL, and I've never really noticed this till you brought it up.

EEE, MTZ, Mundelein, WW, WV are the main ones that you never see.

Mundelein kids are allowed to post, and our directors both have accounts on here. As for IL choirs being spread far apart, the northern IL choirs don't really have that problem as much as the southern IL choirs do. There's a bunch of us in the chicagoland area.

Congrats to everyone who competed at Manteno yesterday!

IMHO, It's really impressive to see a school of 400-600 have a great show choir.

I totally agree... the talent pool and resources that these smaller schools have to draw from is much smaller. Many people forget that Sullivan or Manteno are pretty small schools compared to the Huge 3,000-4,000 student "big choir schools".

Not to say that the big schools don't have to work very hard to be great, just that the small schools have to "work with less" if you want to put it that way

Why is it that manteno doesn't host a finals?

Manteno asked Directors what they would want via a survey when they started the event. One constant comment was "No Finals". The other reason is that they try to have an expanded small school/prep division at the same time. By not having Finals they are able to bring in a pretty healthy number of small schools and still have a good number of the large schools. There were 7 small schools, 9 large schools, and a Single-Gender division. It runs from 9 AM until 9PM just to fit those groups in.

Manteno is a small school and tries to make sure that extra-curricular and small schools have something to compete for. But you have to have some large "big name " choirs to pack the house.

A large number of great show choirs come from schools with 1000, 2000, 3000 kids.

IMHO, It's really impressive to see a school of 400-600 have a great show choir.

Bishop Luers was simply awesome. This year, I've watched Center Grove, WV, Buffalo Grove, EEE, Wheaton Warrenville, etc. and Luers is just as good. Tough job for the judges last night.

Fort Wayne area choirs (Bishop Luers, Dwenger, Carroll, Dekalb, Homestead, Northrop, Norwell, Churbusco, Columbia City, etc.) chat it up pretty good too....

Mostly on the "event" boards it looks like.

Good luck to all the groups. Go Luers!

I'll see you guys all tomorrow! :D

I can't wait to see Magic's show this year. We missed it at Crete-Monee, and last year it was really fun to watch.

Thanks for the tents, too... xD

I actually agree with you on this. People take things way to personally, rather than taking criticism in a helpful way. Oh well...can't please everyone

I can kind of understand why they can't post. I have read some posts from people that were very inflammatory, had bad sportsmanship, or just gave the choir a bad light. I guess it is easier to just say "no posting" than have someone ruin your choir's image.
