In two weeks many of the same show will be at Locrosse. I wish I could be there to see how that one turns out. could be quite different with many of the same groups. Different judges will see it differently I believe.
I also think that shows like Mayville and Sauk should be in their own category. Its just impossible to really compare a 'musical' and a traditional style show choir. From what I've always seen in the past, these groups tend to focus more on the theatre aspect of the show opposed to the high level choreography that traditional groups have. In the past, Sauk and Mayville have always performed their show very well, but its never been my cup of tea...
In my opinion it forces the judges to either dump the 'musical' groups or use them at the very top when it comes to placings. It just wouldn't be logical to stick them in the middle somewhere. If my theory is true, its a huge benefit sometimes for these 'musical' groups and sometimes a huge disadvantage. Although I guess the advantage/disadvantage evens things out for everyone competing?
I am so proud of Preble High School's Center Stage from Green Bay, WI!!! They did an amazing job in Sauk Prairie and we are so glad that they are sticking to the true show choir competition tradition....singing and dancing as a show choir group!!! I think that most of the "showsicles" are wonderful, but they cannot be judged in the same category as regular show choirs. It is like comparing apples to oranges. There should be a separate category for them. That way, the same groups would be judged with similar kind of shows.
Well said Häakon!! I also agree that there is a flaw in the judging system if a group with only BB can get placed over the group holding BV and BC. No offense to Mayville, I'm not trying to personally attack you. But this is the second time its happened to Milton in 2 years. I know as people have already said "it happens," but I just don't think its right.
To Mayville, Congrats on the victory, I wasn't there so I can't say that you weren't the best school there. You must have done something right to get better rankings than Milton.
To Milton, Great job guys!! Keep your heads up, you must have put on an amazing show to come home with BV and BC. I'm sure it stings, I know how you feel after Grand River 2 years ago, but just keep looking forward. Make the loss a challenge, I know for me personally after Grand River 2 years ago, I used the loss to fuel myself to try even harder at the next competition by putting in 120% instead of 110%. And the end result as a group was 1RU at Showstoppers! So use these next 2 weeks to work even harder than you have been and get pumped up for La Crosse. You guys are awesome, keep up the good work, and give Bill the best final season that you possibly can!!
I won't see you guys again until Branson, I'm sure I'll be impressed with how far you've come!! Keep them working hard Bill!

Not sure if anyone but Derrick caught this (or that it really matters), but I screwed up my motivating losses. The loss that I talked about prior to Showstoppers was actually at Cedar Rapids Washington, where we lost to our cross town rival, Janesville Craig. I still stand behind my advice to let the loss motivate you
Seniors of Milton, just be thankful that this wasn't your final competition as Grand River was for my class!!
Thing is, Mayville, Sauk, and Reedsburg all have what could basically be called "pit orchestras", not really show bands. They have the accompaniment to fit their show, it's just that their backup groups are so much larger than regular combos that it's difficult to judge one against the other (just like the actual show).
Regardless, I had a great time yesterday.
Anyone else feel awkward being like 5 feet maximum away from the audience onstage? haha.
Well as this whole deal has shown us, the band can have a LOT of say. They can make or break your show.
Yeah and honestly while Mayville's band was good, and alot better then anything i've seen from them, i liked others better for example Madison East. But sometimes i have found that its not necessarily how "good" the band is but how well they blend and make the show better which i thought mayville did a very good job with. Our band got a 38 out of 40 at Milton and we don't have a very "band heavy" show like last year.
Congratulations Mayville. We took a risk and achieved. We work hard, and we put our heart and soul into our show, and the results proved it. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise. Let's keep it up. Good luck other show choirs in upcoming competitions.
Would the football game go on if the goal post fell over? If the floor gets wet do they let the basketball game continue? If it's a single issue and the performance is only momentarily affected, let the performance continue, but anything more than that and a contest official should stop the show, fix the problem and let the choir start over.
Interesting way of putting it, and I guess it makes sense.
I remember back when I was either a freshman or a sophomore at Monona Grove (I think?) a fire alarm went off right in the middle of a group's show. We were all puzzled and didn't know whether or not to get up and do what we were taught to do in case of fire alarms, or to continue watching the group perform. We ended up just sitting through it for a few minutes and the show went on. Can't remember what the results of it ended up being, but it was definitely distracting.

2nd- Mayville (highest vocal score of the day)
3rd- Onalaska
4th- Milton
5th- Monona Grove 6th- Madison East (highest choreography score of the day)
I am really proud of what we accomplished during our preliminary performance. Our finals performance was troubled from the start as they announced us as "Mad City Swing" which is a our prep group... and I missed an entire line of my solo in the opener which put us a measure ahead of the music (which was the most horrible experience of my life)... Its just sad that we didn't get to perform our best, and even if we stayed at 6th I know we would have been much happier with the outcome if our finals had gone smoother. But hey, stuff happens.
Everyone was great! I can't wait to go to New London and measure up against the groups that went to Sauk and the new choirs.

Not getting to see Milton, MG, or Onalaska (and having none of them see us) was pretty sad.
Thanks to our hosts and all the volunteers at Sauk Prairie! From that standpoint, it was a well-run competition with courteous and helpful people around every corner.

We gave a very good show in my opinion, much better than anything we had at Colby, and it just felt bad to know that all our hard work didn't matter in the end in terms of results.
I'm not saying the judges did it intentionally, but I am pretty sure that had those things not happened, that CS would have made up the 2 points that we were behind Madison East, and would have been in finals. This isn't a dig against Madison East, as their show sounded cool and I can't wait to see it next week at New London, but it's just maddening when you give a really good show and things out of your control completely ruin it.
Alex, how can you truly compare Preble and Madison East ignoring our difficulties? I mean, how can you truly say how our show would have looked and sounded if things hadn't been so screwed up? This isn't an attack, really, just a question...
The highlight of my personal day was terrifying some OHS Express girls during the Rent medley... they looked pretty scared, ahah.
This was Preble's big competition, the one where we were going to leave a big impression on Wisconsin, and I hope at least everyone else in the audience enjoyed our show, even if the judges didn't. Every person I've talked to had us in finals, so obviously we impressed some people... :/
Congrats to the solo competition winner from New London! She sang amazingly.
I'm really sorry to Milton... I just don't think it's fair that they can win BC and BV, but somehow not take home the Grand Championship. GCS really impressed me, and it was a treat to see them live for the first time.
Diction was absolutely brutal in that gym, I could barely understand anybody's words. Mayville, you must have really worked on that, considering I couldn't understand anything going on 3 weeks ago. Good job and we'll be there next week to see you guys again! ;)
