I must say one of the biggest draws will be to hear Taylor Stoddard's solo for Benton's Celebration. The kid got skillz!!!!!!

Does anyone know the reason for the change?

One of Xhilaration's performers will be wrestling in regionals for a potential bid in the state tournament. Our later time slot (which was the only change made) is meant for us to be able to have him also perform at Benton for the day round.

I'm glad to see another competition that allows the top score from the lower classes join finals. Emmetsburg Iowa also does this. They take the top 5 scores and then the top 1A/2A score. (3A and 4A competition at Emmetsburg is usually relatively even, unlike at Benton).

It's great to allow the smaller schools to get a chance for a big trophy. (Unless you're that 6th score and get pushed out of finals.. then its not as fun..)

But still a very respectable rule that I have always been a fan of.

I like the setup of this comp its a nice change from the norm.

Me too! Plus it's just really such a fun atmosphere. Just one of my favorite competitions to attend, as a competitor and a spectator!!

I do not believe they judge in finals either. I am pretty sure they just select an outstanding performer from each group in the day round. We went to Benton last year and the girl that was the Outstanding Performer judge was a Benton alumnus that was only a Freshmen in college (my college) and I don't remember her judging in finals. And Chad is just a Sophomore in college so I doubt he will judge in finals...

I'm pretty sure you're right Nick. I got to sit up at the judges area in 04 when Celebration competed, and I got to just sit there and chat a little bit with the performer judge that year. She was so nice! and WOW, the judges have a much better view than anyone else lol!

They only choose the Outstanding Performer for each group during the day. However, the judge is added to the panel for the Night Show.

How much weight does the outstanding performer judge have? does he score or only choose outstanding performers? is he added for finals?

There's been a change to the schedule... Xhilaration is now performing as the last group at (I believe) 5:25.

top 5 scoring groups!
if a 1a,2a or 3a school is one of the top 5 scoring, then the 1st runner up from 1a,2,a,3a get into finals

yah.... i mean i understand why benton does it this way. because they are a small school group and its honestly FUN to see small schools make finals when they normally don't. they provide a breath of fresh air from the damon, april, mike, andy etc groups that all look the same, have the same kind of shows, choreography, costumes and arrangements. i really found that to be true at Mo-Show last year.

but I didn't even bother putting that in because look at this competition. a GREAT group that deserves finals recognition won't be in finals... i highly doubt one of the 1A/3A groups would score higher than 2 of the well-known varsity groups. it sorta makes me want xavier to go back to 3a so we can just bypass this rule. haha jk. like i said i like the rule and i like this competition, which is why i'm so glad to get to go this year. let's hope the weather doesn't screw things up!!!!

I am dying to see East's ballad. I wish I could have worked with them once like I did last season... but time is just too crunched! Good luck Headliners!
