Has Edgewood competed at all this season?
No and with all of our seniors gone (31) from last year we did pretty good. 8th place. We have went up from there. 5th Runner Up at Findlay FEst, and we go to Loveland this weekend. and Good luck to you and your group this year.

Also, winning Best Combo means very little. It is more of a pride award. It counts for around 10% or so of the total points. That means there could easily be only 5 points difference from first to last. It can make or break choirs if it is close. (I'm not putting band down, just noting how competitions do things.)

I'm going to have to disagree.

I've competed in competitions where the band score leapt a group up to first. I remember a competition a few years ago where one choir got best vocals and choreography, but another group's awesome band bumped them up to GC without getting any other captions.

Besides the actual combo score, having the best band can REALLY bump up other parts of your show. They can bump up the energy- which can help execution of choreography and facial expression scores; having cymbal crashes in the right spots can make the choreo look cleaner. They can bump up dynamics scores, as well as any kind of musicianship scores. If there are sections about show flow and excitement, those can also be affected by a great/horrible band.

At Linn-Mar this past weekend, Urbandale's prep and varsity groups really got a boost because of their excellent bands. If you have a good one it can really really help you out. Vice a versa if your band is not able to play the show, it can make the show seem VERY long. So the band really is an integral part of the show.

No they were after prelims.

If I were judging the competition I would have had this...

Vocals

Bishop Lures
Piqua
Teays Valley
Nitro
Olentangy

Choreography

Piqua
Teays Valley
Olentangy
Nitro
Bishop Lures

I loved Bishop Lures vocals. I wish they had a little more complex and clean choreography but I'm sure that is because they learned their show recently. I think they are a choir to lookout for.

I attended this competition and I agree with kevdoug's assessment. Luers' vocals impressed me and I really liked Piqua's show!!!

I would say I was slightly surprised as well. Nitro won best combo in the daytime and ended up with third runner up, and if I'm not mistaken, bishop leurs was behind Teays before finals.

Yes, I believe we did award captions in the evening, and I'm sure we did after the day round.

I was told by a few people, that they awarded it during prelims and finals. Is that true?

does anyone know if it is correct that bishop luers got best vocal and best choreo in the night show... that's what it says on the beavercreek competetion page.. and if they did why didn't they win?

They didn't award best vocals or choreography at the finals. That was really strange since those awards are usually given in the evening not during the day.
