An interesting side note...that earthquake in Chile on Saturday actually caused the earth to slip off its axis by 3 inches. So when linein said "the world just fell off it's axis", he was right.

How much do y'all want to bet that the earthquake was caused by the collective jaws dropping, both at Franklin Central and all over the country thanks to showchoir.com?

yep...that's what i meant....heh heh

I think that this was the funniest thing I've heard all week.

Also, because of North Central's DQ at Ben Davis, we don't really have any results as to how NC is this year. I haven't seen their show this year, but maybe it's not as powerful as last year's show. And like Woody said. They learn their show so late and so quickly that they just might have been sloppy, and Carroll wasn't. We don't know cuz we weren't at that competition and we also were not in the judges minds.

I saw both North Central and Carrol at Ben Davis. Honestly, out of the groups in finals (Franklin Central, Dekalb, Bishop Luers, Pike and Carrol) I felt that Carrol was the strongest vocally. They sounded big, but not forced. That's one of the biggest problems I have with groups now a days: The sound that some groups produce just sounds extremely forced. I thought Carrol did a great job at BD and I'm sure they improved their show even more and this win is was extremely well deserved.

As for NC's show that I saw at BD, it is actually one of my favorites this year. I've only seen them once, and I wish I was in a better seat when I saw them (got there late had to stand) It flows well, they sound amazing, and to me they looked pretty clean. I'm sure that with more rehearsals and cleaning time their show will be what everyone expects it to be.

As someone stated, the point spread was an extremely slim margine and the results were probably not easy to choose. Everyone should just give Carrol their due, because having seeing their show this year, I'm sure they deserved it. Congrats, Carrol(:

Way to go Carroll! Wow. I've seen you twice (at Northrop and Ben Davis), and was very impressed.

Please ENJOY your GC and don't let anyone bring you down! Everyone is entitled to their opinion, and show choir judging is certainly subjective but in the end it's about having fun, putting on a good show, and impressing the particular judges at any given show. Obviously you did that against a SOLID group of competitors. Every other choir in the finals is consistently a top choir in this region. So again congratulations!! Fortune favors the brave

DeKalb was Carroll's second time out. Since then they have worked endlessly on tightening up their choreography and even harder on their vocal dynamics and diction. They also have listened and worked on parts of their show that the judges in the first 3 competitions pointed out. I hope Saturday you'll be able to see the difference. The competition this weekend was really tight and it could have gone in any direction. I would not have wanted to be in those judge's position. Congrats again to all of the competitors and a big thank you to Franklin Central for a wonderful competition!

I think this is a big theme in show choir this year. As show choir gets more and more popular there are going to be new groups that pop up out of nowhere and surprise people. Also, it's possible judges are tired of seeing the same old thing over and over and so when a group comes onstage and performs their heart out they would be rewarded. Show choir is more competitive than ever, and is just really tight nowadays. We've been seeing that here in Iowa too. It's impossible to have a top 10 list because every group is quality and the difference between groups is just a matter of opinion. Shows that are fresh and exciting might also score better than boring same old stuff shows.

Also, because of North Central's DQ at Ben Davis, we don't really have any results as to how NC is this year. I haven't seen their show this year, but maybe it's not as powerful as last year's show. I am kind of really lost with the outcome in this competition. I saw Carroll at the Dekalb show choir comp. and they placed 3rd with Buffalo Grove in 1st. Buffalo Grove I feel is at the same level as North Central so what happened? I think it is awesome that Carroll won and i congratulate them on it but.. how? Someone message me and fill me in? Haha. My choir wasnt at this comp so I am very curious.. I feel like maybe judging has been messed up this year in show choir. Not saying that anyone does or doesnt deserve what they got.. but idk. Just some weird outcomes lately..

Congrats to Carroll!

I am sure this was a very interesting and exciting competition to watch. I wish I would have been there. Seeing as I wasn't there I can admit I was a little shocked by the results. Choirs perform their hearts out and the judges score them and the judges scored Carroll well and earned themselves a GC! So congrats to Carroll and everyone who performed their hearts out that evening.

Can;t wait for Crystal this weekend!

Time for my Biased opinion. I thought all groups who made finals, both Single-Gender and Mixed did a terrific job. Really proud of Pure Elegance and their performance. Way to go girls. Awesome Job.

As for Mixed, I was surprised at the results but that is to be expected. Even though you try to keep an open mind, you tend to be biased to the school you represent. That being said, I am not sure I would have had the Choraliers at the top. To me, their show is FANTASTIC and all of the songs are connected to the theme. The choreography and the vocals are top notch. All that being said, I was very impressed with the Ben Davis vocals. In a word, SUPER. So, in short I had it like this:

GC - Ben Davis or Fairfield
1st - Fairfield or Ben Davis
2nd - Carroll
3rd - North Central

I think it is interesting that both Fairfield and North Central have the same ballad. As a direct comparison, I am partial to Fairfield's performance, surprised?

Looking forward to hosting a lot of great groups this weekend at Crystal.

Go Rhythm Express!!

Great job everyone.

Franklin Central Was an amazing day for all the obvious reasons, but it would never have happened if it were not for our host school and all the effort they went through to put on an amazing invitational. Thank you!

To all of Carroll Minstrel Magic, way to believe in yourselves! Enjoy this GC! Take a deep breath, focus...then turn your attention to the next competition at Homestead.

To Select Sound, you had a very good show...you are so close to pushing yourselves to that next illusive level! The challenge is all about how hungry you are to be that amazing group we all know you can be. Good Luck at Homestead!

To both Stage Crews...YOU ROCK! I heard words all day like: Amazing...soldier like...invisible & professional. Congratulations on your caption awards!

I would like to apologize for some recent disturbances by some fellow SCC members. As this was our largest weekend (with no less than 32 different show choir competitions all across the country!), attendance is extremely high and keeping tabs on everything (while we attend competitions ourselves!) can be difficult. I have looked into the situation brought to my attention and it seems that "SWillows" and "showfoshow" are the same person. Multiple accounts are not allowed on SCC, so I have removed the member in question. Like always, if there are any issues that anyone has with the website, please bring it to my attention immediately. There's no way I can read every post in every topic, but I will absolutely make sure we make things right if there is a problem. Once again, I apologize for the disruption and I appreciate the vast majority of users who are positive and make SCC a productive place to be.

The difference in score between Carroll and North Central overall was 1.1 points, and NC beat us by only .5 points in vocals. I can't remember the exact total scores, but both groups were in the 170's.

Y'know, it is rather insulting that a lot of people are saying how we don't deserve our GC. Honestly, the last few years have not been good, but this year we have MAJORLY stepped it up. So, let us enjoy our moment in the spotlight, and we'll see you all at State ;)

1. Congrats Carroll. as a recent alumni I am sooooo proud of you guys! You've really stepped it up and your show is worthy of all the success you are having this year!

2. everyone needs to slow their roll and let Minstrel Magic ENJOY their victory. unless you have seen their show this year you have no right to criticize or determine whether the outcome was/was not fair (and that goes for any choir) things change and some years some groups get that fire lit under them that makes them determined to go out there and step up to the plate. the world of show choir won't always stay the same, sorry to break it to you.

First, Congrats to FCS director Mr. Brad ( whom happens to be a NC Counterpoints alum) and your parents for putting together a wonderful, professional competition! Next, Congrats to Carroll Minstrel Magic on your GC! I have no idea why everyone is giving you guys grief! It was a well deserved win and enjoy It. Now you know that hard work and focus can take you to great places! I would like to say how proud I am of NC and Laf Jeff! Both groups do something that's very difficult! Putting together
a comp show in 7 to 8 weeks! I can notice that each group is starting to settle into their shows. Be Gone the face of concentration and nervousness! And next time you'll be able to go out and enjoy yourselves and just give! Make a connection with the people in your group and to reach out and make somebody's day out in the audience! That's what is most important! And not a soul can take that away from you!
great work kids!
