This should NOT be a fact as to how a group performs
treat every performance like a competition.
I agree with you. It shouldn't be a factor, but it IS. Even if you treat every performance like a competition, not all competitions are equal. The more there is on the line for a particular competition, like if you're competing against a rival school, the more focused you're gonna be and you'll generate a better performance than if the rival school wasn't attending. That's why national competitions generally (but not always) have the best performances, and why exhibition performances aren't *quite* as good.
I wonder just how many SCC people I'll meet this weekend without even knowing it...
Now that we officially have 1 week left, I'd just like to wish any long-distance traveling choirs, spectators, and all around show choir freaks out there making the journey a safe trip here and back!
It's going to be an amazing day with no doubtably some of the performances of the YEAR, and of course the best of luck to each and every competing choir!
Don't hold anything back, and leave your heart on that stage.
also, what you see in the video is an exhibition performance. Pop Show isn't a competition, and the choir doesn't have the thought of a first place trophy driving their performance. when the trophy is on the line, everyone is much more focused and steps up. im sure if you looked up the performance of last year's set from pop show on youtube, you wouldnt get the "same sense of awe" you get from the later recordings.
when compared to a competition setting, where you have the entire day or even the entire week to prepare and focus for one (maybe two) performances of just the choir set alone, the performance given at a competition is ALWAYS undoubtably better.

Ok, I was just wondering how many years it took for someone to be considered "in no way associated" with a group anymore. Good to know all is forgotten by the next season!
Haakon sarcasm....
personally; i would say it take 4 maybe 5 years until (all of the kids that the person who was associated with said group) have graduated.
for the simple fact
"oh i remember little billy, he wanted first place SO bad & this is his senior year, ill give them a couple extra points so he might get his medal"
I have watched Powerhouse on Youtube, on a low quality video admittedly, but I just didn't get the same sense of awe as I did watching their show from last year
Just a clarification about the video:
it is, you said of very low quality. however you also have to note that it was taken at burrough's annual Pop Show, which involves roughly 2-4 hours of singing and dancing (in solo acts, small groups performances, and shows from the other 4 burroughs choirs) BEFORE the Powerhouse set itself is performed. In addition to that, the show runs four days straight and has countless 5+ hour rehearsals the week before, so many of the kids are exhausted and/or on choir overload. not to mention the show itself is tiring. for instance, in act 2 of the show, i had to perform one act, then i had two 2 minute-ish acts to change (which is very stressful, mind you), then went on stage for Men@Work (the all-men's choir at burroughs) and performed 15 minute set, then had 3 acts to change, then Dance Ensemble (which is comprised of 10 min of intense and draining dancing) then i had one act to change, then i performed another act, and then i had one act to change, and then went on for Powerhouse. i was certainly not the only one who had to do something like this, so many kids in PH were simply exhausted before what you see in the video even begins.

and, something i firmly believe in: the live performance is 32049865290387465987236948751923875487265384761529387654987263 times better than ANYTHING you could capture on video (even HD)
sorry for taking up your time, but i dislike when people make definitive judgement on a choir (any choir) based on one bad quality video. thats why im so excited to see the choirs from the other parts of the country live, because theres no way i can form an honest opinion of them from the snippets on youtube.
i just wanted to explain that video that i dislike so much haha.
none of this is meant to be aggressive or defensive, simply informative ;)
Stephen Todd did not work with Clinton at all this year. He is in no way associated with the group.

I believe Kevin Butler goes out and works with John Burroughs so I'm assuming that's why.
And you think a clinician would hold more weight than a choreographer??
I think I speak for linein also when I say that I will feel better when the schedule is posted by someone for Ohio who knows about Ohio show choir. I'm just saying being all the way from Iowa this might not be accurate.
PS. The comments posted above do not include a scene of humor or the ability to identify sarcasm, you will need to find that yourself.

just figured people wanted to see this without searching
I won't pretend to know much about Indiana or Ohio show choir. (Or Mississippi or California, for that matter.) My predictions are essentially random as I haven't seen any of the groups live and only a handful on Youtube. I have watched Powerhouse on Youtube, on a low quality video admittedly, but I just didn't get the same sense of awe as I did watching their show from last year, or from watching Attache's show from this year. I could be wrong, and I always am, but I would not be surprised whatsoever to see Powerhouse miss out on the top two. But placing 3rd at this competition is better than 99% of the Grand Championships nationwide, and absolutely not something to be ashamed of!
From what I have heard from people that have been at Attache's performances, they are better than they have been for the past several years as far as vocals go. And Burroughs is still Powerhouse, so I would say that the two of them are gonna be competing for the top two spots. Although, I have to say Burroughs losing to Burbank over the weekend kind of made me a little iffy about things. BUT, losing to Burbank is no thing to hang your head about.
