Yes- Monona Grove was certainly interesting. Some opera stuff mixed with contemporary things. And it worked very well. I have to say that things must have changed a bit at night. I was pretty sure Mt. Zion would walk away with this, but Hastings had a solid show, too.
I really feel that the biggest shock out of this competition is Monona Grove in 3rd place. For being a show choir that hasn't really been in the front of many minds in the past few years, this is a great way to start a season off. Congrats! I heard your show was very interesting!
I think that it wouldn't be an upset at all. Hastings placed third ru at johnston last year, mt. Zion not making finals and the year before, mt. Zion place one spot ahead of hastings at onalaska by a couple points. I think it will just be deserved. Hastings brought home four GCs last year. I think they can do it.
Maybe it wouldn't be much of an upset anymore. My frame of reference is 2004, when Mt. Zion was considered one of the best in the country and Hastings was still more of an up and coming group. I didn't really pay too much attention the last few years, but I'm probably going to Monona Grove's competition next week to see my cousin perform, so I came back on here to get myself informed about what's changed in the past few years.

Wow, it is SO difficult to be sitting here, not at a show choir competition. GOOD LUCK to all Riversiders! I am so excited to see the results of today! How are groups looking this far?!?!
