Hi. I am a senior music ed. major at Viterbo and I coordinate Viterbo 101. I just wanted to clear up any misinformation that may be lingering around. Our date has remained the same since our event shifted from just being a show choir clinic to a full competition. Due to facility constraints, we are required to hold our event during our winter break so that it does not create with any conflicts with academic productions in the theatre.
As far as dates go, we have not moved weekends since Viterbo 101 began. Before Jan. 2005 we held a show choir clinic (not competition) that was held the same day as the classic. This, however, was never an issue as we were essentially just a workshop and onalaska was a competition. Then, in Jan. 2005 (the first Viterbo 101), which was a year after the classic mishap, onalaska moved their event back one weekend in january which cleared us to create and host Viterbo 101 as a full competition. This worked for a couple years, but, two years ago the classic was moved up a weekend to the date where 101 had since been established. That is where the situation is now.
I wish that if "imluvinACW" was really concerned about how the events came to be on the same day that person would have taken the time to ask for correct information rather than just conjecture and create unnecessary posts. Thanks to everyone who helped dispel this person's comment. I really appreciate it!
Viterbo and Onalaska are both wonderful compeititons, as i've attended both. It was a shame to see that they had to be on the same dates now. But both are wonderful and will thrive even while being on the same day. And makes it wonderful for spectators to watch a whole lot of show choir in a day
I can't help but believe that Viterbo is intentionally scheduled on the same day as Onalaska. Is it spite?

Is this another conspiracy at Onalaska? lol Not again!

I hope you are not implying that Viterbo was the one to set their date intentionally in the first place? Since they have started their compeititon, they have been on the 1st weekend of the month, and Onalaska was the second weekend. And i hardly believe that there would be "spite" from Onalaska twords a college or vice versa.
I don't think it is very uncommon for Onalaska and Viterbo to have their comps the same weekend. There are plenty of talented groups out there to sustain both comps lineups.
it has been said that this year is the last year of any type of "Onaterbo, Vitaska" or w/e next year its supposedly on a different weekend, and its not out of spite or anything like that. It all depends on when Viterbo students get back from their winter break and for the past cpl years its fallen on the same weekend as Classic...

I do not believe what you are saying is true. Traditionally, if you look at the yearly competitors at each competition they are rarely the same and with the exception of a couple of groups, this still hold true. I do know for a fact that Viterbo is locked into the date that the facilities are available. I feel that just maybe you are trying to stir up controversy? With that being said, it will be a weekend filled with fantastic show choir in La Crosse, WI!!!
i hope not. that would be pathetic. two amazing competitions in the same city, each attracting top-caliber groups, scheduling the same day just to get back at each other? gh.
