i find it hard to believe that NC waited that long to learn those key elements to their show. it just isnt Woody, Wiehe, or CP's style.

this is actually quite true...

NC has the capability to pull off some amazing things in their shows every year, and seem to always succeed. I wasn't able to see their show yesterday, but I doubt this year is any different. My dad saw it and he thought some of the choreography was inappropriate. I just believe that in the show choir world, a certain level of class needs to be held on stage. I believe you can still go "out of the box" and still keep a level of class.
i can only think of two or three moves in CP's show that could be considered "inappropriate"...
if you wanna see raunchy, watch castle's show, just sayin'...
i'm not trying to be mean, i was just surprised by the sexual nature of some of the moves... i mean, come on...

I spent all day at the competition and it is true the the NC show dramatically dropped from Prelims to Finals but for those of you criticizing the dramatic thinking outside the box of that show are sadly mistaken. This show was the most different show i have ever had the opportunity to see and for whoever said that NC couldn't tap just ate their words. This showed combined not just the generic show choir formula but a combination into a very musical theater style with a dramatic flare. The ballad for this show was learned three days ago and their final dancing number on Tuesday of this week. This is the first comp. out for NC and i expect great things as they work towards Fame NY. the dancing was something Brent Holland at his best turning this show into something that only North Central could pull off.

CONGRATS PIKE! I am sooo proud of you guys and extremely proud to be an alumni of the PIKE ENCORES. and i'm really glad that I have been stalking you this year you guys DEFINITELY stepped it up in finals...after the prelims show i was a bit nervous but still hopeful! then when you made finals i KNEW you would "take it to the next level" and you DEFINITELY did. your ballad was the best its EVER sounded and it was incredible. your choreography was flawless both in prelims and finals and you deserved that Best Visuals caption. what a GREAT season youre having, keep it up! (I'll see you this weekend at Huntington

FC-i'm not trying to put down my choir in any way, but I personally had you guys in first. your show was awesome and your vocals & dancing were on point. congrats on the first runner-up! I bet you'll have an amazing rest of the season. p.s. are you guys coming to pike's musicfest??

NC-I definitely was reeeeally looking forward to your show, and then was more confused than anything. The first number didnt seem like a NC number, but you guys still sounded pretty good. However, in finals that number was definitely a little more sloppy than in prelims. I dont really understand how your second number fits with the theme of the show...but 96000 and Peace in the Valley were REALLY good. the dancing was what i would expect from a NC show. And of course, you sounded incredible on your ballad.

DeKALB-you guys definitely were VERY strong vocally. and i LOVED your Puttin on the Ritz number. I also would have had you maybe one spot higher because you both looked and sounded good. the ONLY thing i had a little problem with was your ballad. It sounded amazing, but I personally am not a fan of that as a ballad unless you have a patriotic theme lol

WC-HOLY CRAP you guys can sing. I definitely was into your show the ENTIRE time. you guys kept my eyes glued on the stage with your energy. The only thing I felt hurt you was the lack of dancing, especially in the closer. the stepping was awesome, but everyone was standing around watching 6 people do it. but your energy was intense. and your vocals were number 1 in my book.

CONGRATS TO EVERYONE!!!

Trivia Question. When was the last time HN did not make finals ? I remember in 1997, can you help if it is more recent ? Congrats to Pike what a good win for you!

1997 was the last time HN did not make it into finals. 12 years! HN has a great show, and they have a lot of potential this year! It's a fresh group, they lost 22 seniors last year. Keep up the hard work HN and best of luck the rest of your season!

Giant Spec was a great competition. Very Intense. Congrats Pike! And congrats to all of the other groups that made finals, it was tough! Best of luck with the rest of your comp seasons everyone!!

I just want to say a HUGE CONGRATULATIONS to Pike!!!!!!!!!! I've been stalking your show on YouTube and you are just incredible. I don't think you realize how many alums still follow your progress and care so much about how you all do, so thank you for making all of us proud. And for those of you who were freshmen my senior year: WOW. You are truly some of the most talented individuals to ever come out of Pike High School, and I am so glad to have gotten to work with you even for a year. I can't wait to see your show LIVE at MusicFest!

Once an Encore, always an Encore (yes, I'm cheesy and pathetically obsessed with my choir. I understand),

and Anderson Highland shouting "Go Jesus, Go Jesus, Go"...

That wasn't Highland's show you're thinking of, but Avon's show, who performed right before Highland.

Thanks.

Actually, it was 1998 when Varsity Singers did not make the night show at the Bishop Luers competition.

It was 1997. HN didn't attend Luers in 1998.

OK seriously though....what are the songs in North Central's show? I won't be able to see them this year and I was just wondering what the show was like. I get that it's different than before, so I would just like to get some idea of what it looks like, and knowing what the songs are would really help

Thanks,
Zach

I also wanted to add that some group (I don't remember who it was) had a part where a guy did a backflip off of another guy's knee. It was fun and unexpected...and impressive for like 2 seconds. Immediately afterward, the guy started smiling like he just won the competition for them, then proceeded to turn to his friend and say 'that was awesome' then low-fived people on his way to a clump formation. SERIOUSLY? REALLY?

I can forgive the girs who sweep their hair back when doing a move near the face. I can even maybe forgive the guys who give no facials because facials aren't manly or something. But talking and high-fiving on stage.....not okay.

Adding to that, I get that jeans on stage is a new thing. I would love to have had the opportunity to wear jeans on stage, but jeans do not give you an excuse to pull your pants up during the show.

Sorry for my venting. I just couldn't handle it.

I'm really surprised that ppl don't have positive feedback for NC after their daytime show.

They did start with a "typical" opener (which is very odd for them) then the rest of the show it seemed to me they said "screw the score sheet, we're going to entertain our audience." They definitely did in my opinion, Also, i thought that their ballad WAS the most vocally powerful number in their set... I was VERY impressed with the fact that after all the difficult choreo in the show, and the high energy level they showed in prelims, they would still be able to sing a ballad like that at the very end of their show!

I didn't see the night show, but i'm willing to bet fame NYC is going to loove their show.

Side note:

I also think this really gave FC a huge leg up in my "issma state" predictions. From what i saw from NC, HN, and Warren, i think FC has a really good chance of coming in in the top 3 this year.

Okay, first of all, I'm an alum. I'm 4 years out, so don't think I speak for Pike at all.

I went to the daytime shows, not finals.

I, personally, was really disappointed with North Central's show. It was (supposed to be) the climax of my day. My roommate and I were really excited and then....well it's like in 27 Dresses..."I feel like I just found out my favorite love song was written about a sandwich". It just made me sad. It just started off disappointing for me and never got much better (save for the balladcloser). NC is infamous for having really dramatic intense openers, but it started with the guys on stage doing typical moves and a typical show choir song. And then the Hannah Montana wigs... Clearly, I don't want to say too much, but if you are making a show choir wear wigs, PLEASE get curly wigs and/or wigs without bangs (half the wigs were blocking the girls' eyes). Show choirs curl their hair because it bounces on stage and still has a general structure.

I was also sad that Franklin Central didn't do a comedy number. That number is one of the highlights of competition season for me. I was overall very impressed with FC's show.

As far as Pike goes, I was impressed (clearly, I'm a bit biased, but honestly, who isn't). I loved the song with the newspapers...and all the soloists were amazing. I will say that I don't really like Jesus songs in shows from public schools. Between those few songs in the Pike show and Avon shouting "Go Jesus, Go Jesus, Go"...it was a bit intense. But it's not like there is a rule against doing religious songs, it's just off-putting.

Warren Central, I really liked your show. I want to steal your closer outfits and wear them every day. There is a guy who is normally in the front row to the right side from audience perspective...most intense facials ever. He seemed so excited to be there and that made me really excited to watch the show.

I was very surprised Huntington North didn't make finals. It's just something you expect...you don't think of Huntington North going home. Mooresville's soloist in the ballad....AMAZING. Whoever you are, I will hire you to be my friend. This year, I loved Mooresville's show.

This is completely random, but I was surprised how many groups allow people to wear their glasses on stage. Also, there was a group, I don't remember who (it may have been Mooresville?) where there was one girl who didn't have pantyhose on. It's crazy distracting to be seeing everybody's legs with a matte finish then one person with shiny legs.

So there you have it, my ridiculously long perspective. Sorry if I offended anyone, I certainly didn't mean to...just stating my opinion.

Under a personal prefrence I did not like North Central's show at all. I prefer to watch show choir, not MTV. Did they do it well, yes. They do their shows incredibly well and their loser this yea is an amazing vocal section. But I think at some point "pushing the envelope" can go way to far. and remember guys, just because you love the show does not mean that they should win.

I would have to agree with you! i always love NC show and this year they just turned me off i was really disappointed!! Dont get me wrong it wasent a bad show its just not what i like! OH and there closer I totally called that! the first time i saw Hairspray in theaters i leaned over and told my friend NC will do this song!! YOu did and i loved that song!!!
