i know that franklin central is NOT coming any more. and i dont think north central is coming either. carmel, northrop, bendavis, homestead, carrol, columbia city, i think east noble, and a few more are coming. the first ones (carmel - colmbia city) are for sure coming.
I just thought I'd say that it's great that people actually have faith in Pike.. Makes me smile as an alum who was part of some pretty average shows... lol Thanks for the positive posts!
and I really hope Pike makes finals cause I can't make it to prelims!!
I'm very excited for this competition. I love how the finalists are almost a complete toss-up. I expect everyone to bring their best. => Good luck to everyone going!
Well I think that Pike and Ben Davis are on top of things this year.
not in order just comments
Pike was just amazing at BD this Saturday and I cant wait to see what they do. It was a really tough call at WC but at BD they blew everyone out of the water.
BD seems to be bringing it this year. The vocals at WC were amazing and suprised they didnt win but it was still really close. There show is just well put together this year. very entertaining and high energy!!
Carmels usually pretty good but havent seen them this year
what about concert choir and womens prediction???
no one seem to ever talk bout them
i would put Carmel in the top three if they perform like they should perform. HOWEVER, if they come out flat the first competition out like they did last year (coming in at 3RU i believe) then a top three finish is not going to happen against these top notch choirs. I DO believe, though, that carmel will be ready and not fall flat like last year.
I don't think carmel starts their competition show until february, so i don't think they'll have it together before this competition... Not enough to take on Findlay i'd say... By state time though they will be once again, the most difficult to critique show choir you've ever seen.
It's my understanding that Carmel's show has been finished for several weeks now so saying they won't have it together may not be accurate. Most of these groups will have a competition edge on Carmel but Ambassadors have some of the most experience performers around. I would put Carmel in the top 2 and look for them to vie for the win.
Grand Champions: Findlay- Findlay has a good chance of winning this competition. They seem to have a hard time with competing out of Ohio. They do alright but they never seem to pull off the big wins. They are very good this year and beating Olentangy and some other big names I think they will be on their way to their 3rd GC this year.
1st Runner-up: Carmel- They have been very good and I expect the best. Last year they did start off the year with a 4th RU losing to Lawrence North, BD, FC, and Plainfield. With very difficult choreo. and possible early on jitters I wouldn't be surprised to see them down there again.
2nd Runner-up: Teays Valley- You may think I am biased but I am VERY critical of my former group. The biggest thing that Teays lacks is projection of sound. I am pretty sure they will make finals and I could see them anywhere from 2nd-6th depending on how good there performance is. I strongly feel their show is more solid this year than last. This group (besides Findlay) has the most experienced in the competition field this year... no first time jitters for them. We will see after Garfield Heights this weekend.
3rd Runner-up: Northrop- Maybe not the results they would like to have but they have only lost to outstanding groups.
4th Runner-up: Highland- After a good season last year we will see. This group could do anything.
5th Runner-up: Pike- I will go ahead and put Pike over Homestead because of their results last week but I could see Homestead easily taking this spot.
I can see someone making a case for Ben Davis, though I haven't really heard much about them this year.
Ben Davis was really good at Warren Central. They're vocals were really strong and they won best vocal caption at WC with a 2RU. I definitely expect them to bring it at HN. Pike barely beat them out at WC, but it will definitely be interesting to see how these two battle it out again.
I cant wait to go to this competition! I'll get to see groups that I've never been able to see before!
To be honest I find it hard to make a prediction w/out Teays or Northrop in the predictions.
Agreed. Homestead has had a great year with a new director and all, but they aren't quite to the level they've had in the last few years. I can see someone making a case for Ben Davis, though I haven't really heard much about them this year.
Where has Teay's competed this year? I just went threw all the "Result's Only" threads and couldn't find anything... but in past years I would definitely put them ahead.
And after a rough start, Northrop appears to be a stronger contender than most would think.
Like Wocttocs said, Carmel starts later than most, and last year they weren't quite ready for their first comps, but I still expect a strong showing here.
not at all. im not in the choir anymore so i have no control over the performance. im just saying that underestimating this group is a mistake. lol.
Underestimating pike is always a bad idea... They are the what, 3rd or 4th biggest school in indy... Clearly there is talent there, i've just been waiting for years for them to finally pull it together like Warren finally has.
Should be exciting. Now i don't know whether to go to LC or HN... man...
I'm thinking it's going to be....
GC: Findlay (vocals)
1RU: Carmel (visual)
2RU: Pike
3RU: Anderson
4RU: Ben Davis
5RU: Homestead
Bottom 3 could go any way...
I don't think carmel starts their competition show until february, so i don't think they'll have it together before this competition... Not enough to take on Findlay i'd say... By state time though they will be once again, the most difficult to critique show choir you've ever seen.
But Franklin Central didn't place in the top 6 after a successful year and performance. They should have so you really can't go by that.
Thank you... The ISSMA contest is a complete sham for any groups not solely adhering to the scoresheet. Well, being Pat Wiehe's choir does help to i'd assume.
FC beat out nearly every group they competed with in 2008 4GC's in difficult fields, and yet were not able to place in the top 6 against the very groups they had whipped earlier in the year.
There is definitely some bias in the judging. FC qualified every year to go to state and never attended, then the first year they decide to go, with the strongest show they ever had, they don't place???
