We had the same people running audio at our invitational last weekend, and I don't think we had very many problems. I don't know what happened...

Nor do I. The only issue I can really remember as standing out from you guy's invite was Knight Rhythms in our tango number, but that was our director's fault - he hit the 'demo' button on his keyboard while he was trying to get to the volume knob.

Whoever was in the auditorium wasn't any better. As I said, Premiere Edition has horrible issues with mics, and a lot of the other choirs did as well. Knight Rhythms didn't have any really obvious issues, except for there was a point where I couldn't hear the keyboard, but that could be pure happenstance, it could be director's error, or it could be audio person error. But we were also the last group to perform in there - one would hope they would have issues hammered out by then.

I thought that everyone did really well! WV did great as did Eisenhower! I don't know why you think WV performed so much better than BG? What should bg work on?

It has been up for a while now.

Great! Haven't noticed but I'll be sure to check it out. Thanks for the heads up Peters.

let's just put it out there:

whoever that guy was on the sound board at dekalb yesterday had to have been a volunteer. because i have never seen so many missed solos / feedback / general audio issues in one day.

trust me, i know mistakes happen. they can even be repeated. but if your sole purpose that day is to make sure the sound in that massive gymnasium was top notch, wouldn't you be particularly mindful about which solo mics went backstage? that's the reason solo mics usually have those big colorful covers... so that even if you weren't sure what's off stage, you could look at what's on stage and do the color math and say to yourself:

"self, i know you're not really a show choir guy, but as a sound guy, there's a high probability that the yellow solo mic will be needed quite soon."

but that internal conversation seemed to not take place at key moments yesterday... too many instances of dropped entrances. for crying out loud, he even missed a solo for the HOST GROUP. while this might help that random soloist who doesn't start off too well, i for one would appreciate hearing the entire solo.

now, missing a microphone pass on stage several times, that's a different story.

I HATE sound system problems.
Faulty mics n such can completely ruin a performance
congrats to marysville for pulling through

do judges take sound problems into consideration when scoring?
i've always wondered..

East Noble Premiere Edition's show was hit hard by mic issues - four of their five solos used the same mic, and it didn't work for any of them. It wasn't good.

But they altogether weren't really "on" for their performance, so I don't think they would have placed in the top three regardless of mic issues. I don't think that it made it any worse, though - the judges know that technical issues aren't (usually) the choir's fault.

Marysville greatly improved over their prelim performance (which was plagued by sound system problems)

Finally got a WiFi connection. So was anyone else who was there flabbergasted with the result? I had Waubonsie way out front.
My observation:

GC Waubonsie Valley by half a mile.
FC
BG
Marysville greatly improved over their prelim performance (which was plagued by sound system problems)
EEE
Edgewood.

I really thought WV's show was perfect from beginning to end, with their ballad the best I've heard all year.

Does the score sheet give any points for artistry, or is it technical merit only?

I don't know why everyone underestimated Buffalo Grove. I was surprised to hear that they got first in Prelims also but whatever... WV was amazing like usually as was Eisenhower. Great Job to everyone!!!! Btw I go to Buffalo Grove and am wondering what comps everyone else is going to. We have 2 more and they are... Chicago land show case at hersey high school in IL, and Nashville. Anyone going to these. Hope to see you there!

Northrop actually got disqualified because they got drawn for finals first and they couldnt make the time because they were still in Norwell... so then Edgewood got to take their place with busco less than 2 points behind and then carrol after busco... this was a really close competetion! Buscos show was really fun to watch and so was Waubansie they always put so mch energy into it!

How did the Single-Gender results pan out?
I can't remember the exact Single-Gender results by the we won. Franklin central high voltage came in first Edgewood came in second and waubonsie valley third. It was a really close competition. We received best vocals and actaully tied for best choreography but with the issma scoring you can't have a tie so the tie breaker went to edgewood

FC, very good job in a brutally tough field! Hats off to you guys for the work you did in changing a lot of stuff this week. It took a lot of concentration and determination, so thanks. To High Voltage, AWESOME JOB!! Very proud of the improvement you're showing and how the show is continuing to grow! God Bless, Damon
