From my discussions with directors, the weekend of Crystal Classic this year proved to be a difficult one for many. The date is usually set based on the Ohio Music Education calendar for Large Group Contest. This year, we could not be on the first weekend of March as we had in the past.

With several national competitions on the same day, and other great competitions out there, I know several former competitors were not able to attend. But, I think we'll still have an excellent line-up of schools and a FULL day of show choir!

Yeah he did choreograph (I want to say their girls number) Matoaca. The reason I asked was because Matoaca, Machester, and one other group are the only VA area choirs I've seen.

So i guess i heard wrong- they do not share the same choreographer.
Maybe it is a former Manchester student now- its hard remembering everyone.

Atlee is not like Matoaca. Matoaca is more modern i believe with bigger choreography and more flash.

Atlee is costumed well and usually produces a nice sound- Matoaca is more classic in the costuming but more bang in the band and production. I believe Antwon Chvis did a number for Matoaca this year.

Rian,

What the HECK happened to competitions like 03 04 05 and 06??? Is everyone just trying to scrape for GCs this year???

There hasn't been ONE comp on here yet that i haven't had a 100 percent feeling about a top 3 prediction...

What happened to Onalaska and Fairfield? Well i guess we know what happened to ona... but COME ON!

Groups are a little conservative this season, I have noticed that. I agree, the days of earlier competitions were very competitive. I loved HN '05. One of my all time favorite competitions I've competed in ...

Atlee and Cosby don't have the same choreographer anymore. I believe Cosby's choreographer left Atlee a few years ago.

Atlee is similar to Cosby- recently at Poca- with the same choreographer- under the direction of a very neat man- Natan Berenshteyn. A solid group in va. They have been consistent in placing in the top 3 here. You will see more technical dance in this choir than in many in the country- if they stay true to the past. Well sung, nice band sound. They are a very pretty choir and hold themselves well at EVERY competition. A very classy group all around.

They competed in Indiana a few years ago- but not sure it turned out too well for them.

Go Va! Very glad our groups are making the trips to expose themsleves to new styles, groups and FUN!

Fairfield is a great comp.- A few problems in 2005 or 2006- i believe- because there were so many people and not enough space but they have fixed ALL of that. Wonderful venues and some very nice people.

Good Luck to all!

Dekalb was pretty ridiculous last week with Buffalo Grove, WV, Marysville, Franklin Central, Eisenhower, and Edgewood. But I agree, it's been a little less amped up this year.

Fairfield in 06, 07, and 08 (especially 07) were REALLY good competitions.

I agree scott, but there's a heck of alot of states represented (off hand OH, IN, WV, VA, AL) and underrated competitors coming to this competition. Look for Olentangy to take the top spot though. Hands down they've had a heck of a season thus far.

It'll still be a good one.

Predictions -

gc - Olentangy (BV BC)
1st run - Piqua (BB)
2nd run - Teays
3rd run - Beavercreek
4th run - Colerain
5th run - ?

I'm at a loss for the last spot.

Predictions For Finalists:

Piqua
Colerain
Shelbyville
Teays Valley
Olentangy
Beavercreek

Having seen Piqua, I have to believe that they're a strong contender for Grand champions, but I'm gonna say that Olentangy takes this one, with Piqua behind slightly (as they almost took down Findlay this past weekend)
