Sincere thanks to FAME for putting on a wonderful event yesterday. To the groups who competed, it was an honor to see your talent and passion for music on full display. Group after group simply delivered varying versions of excellence that covered virtually every aspect of the musical spectrum, and all were delivered with quality and charisma. A pleasure and an absolute honor.
God Bless, Damon Brown

i cant believe the competition was last night. that only this morning were we sitting together in an auditorium screaming in joy. the fact that im home now is even wierder. haha. CONGRATS to Powerhouse! i love all of you and i was totally tearing up during your finals performance.
and to my fellow SoundSensations:
this past week has been amazing. i just spent about a half hour reading the past few pages of this topic and NO WHERE did i see anyone mention us as a finalist group and i think that goes to show that we proved them wrong again :> we have totally worked hard for this and i cant wait for Chula Vista when we can walk in and throw down another championship performance. :D ILY

i think after this people slowly start to remember that John Burroughs Sound Sensations can not only take on advanced womens but advanced mixed.
;> love you girlies :D

I still don't know what all choirs competed in Fame concert choir, but I just got a text that North Central won. I think there were only like five choirs though. Anyone know anything about it?

awesome job yesterday, everyone! it was tons of fun both performing and getting to talk and watch all of the different groups. my very last show choir competition, and i can't believe it's over! ahhh! anyways, AMAZING PERFORMANCES from every single group that was there. i can't wait to get my dvd of finals!

andy, here's some concert choir info for you. i'm pretty sure most of it is correct, but it's all from memory so i might have forgotten a few names. feel free to correct me if anything is wrong:

gc: north central counterpoints
1st ru: rancho verde chamber singers (california)
2nd ru: west potomac high school (virginia)
3rd ru: rancho verde 712 singers (california)
4th ru: griffin high school (georgia)

best repertoire: north central
best choral sound: north central

judges were pete eklund, eric vancleave, and andrew drinkall.

Thank you! We are so happy that women's choirs are finally being given some credit!

Everyone that I met yesterday was so nice, and I talked to people from pretty much every choir. THAT was the best part for me. It's no fun to compete with mean people. North Central's fan base is powerful, to say the least. Findlay and WW both have the sweetest parents. Homewood kids were super nice. Chula, as always, is so much fun to have at competitions. I didn't spend a whole lot of time talking to members of the other choirs, but elevator rides and stuff were so fun. Thanks to everyone for making this such a fun competition.

Not since the hey-days of Luers in the 80s have I seen such an outstanding - and diverse! - group of finalists as last night at FAME NYC. The air in the ballroom last night was electric, surpassing even FAME Chicago last year. I'm so proud of both Sound Sensations and Powerhouse, and thrilled to get to witness your accomplishments.

Congratulations to the North Central Counterpoints for absolutely living up to every bit of your 50+ year history. Any rumor that this was a down year for you was instantly dispelled with your first note. Both show and performance were outstanding. And you can do "The Devil You Don't" every year for another 50 as far as I'm concerned -- it's just that good.

Wheaton Warrenville, Findlay and Greece-Athena, you all are as good as - even better than - the reputations that precede you. It's an honor for any choir to share your stage.

Special shout out to Chula Vista Main Attraction. In 30 years of being involved in show choir, yours is one of my all-time favorite shows... And your costumes are marvelous! ;)

Congrats Powerhouse! Way to represent So Cal! Sounds like you gave a performance that will be talked about for years to come. Your hard work and dedication to show choir is greatly appreciated by us all. Get home safe and see you at So Cal.

Also a huge congrats to Sound Sensations! Not only making finals but beating a few very talented choirs along the way.

When someone gets a DVD, could they possibly put finals performances on youtube?
I would love to see JB's legendary performance.

along w/ North Central, Findlay, and Wheaton.

I think Tyler is right... I don't recall them ever saying anything about combining the two rounds for captions. I sort of understand wanting to give the prelims round a little more weight so they aren't totally useless (as well as being able to include groups who don't make finals), but they were still working out a lot of technical bugs in the theater halfway through the prelims round. I don't think you should judge best vocals on groups where microphones aren't working.

I must say, yesterday was such a great time across the board... the performances were AMAZING, I got to spend time with so many wonderful friends, and I actually agreed with the judges down the whole scoresheet for once!

I didn't take written notes this time as I really wanted to just enjoy everyone's shows, but all of the groups sure have a lot to be proud of. Wheaton, your finals show was miles ahead of what you gave during prelims and I think the bump to third was completely justified. I really love what you did to your ballad and you definitely have a commitment to your show that not everyone else does. I don't take that for granted, and you should be so proud of what you have accomplished. North Central, you were an absolute joy to watch, and I think your placement in prelims was also totally deserved. I think we got to see the "real you" halfway through the set, and when you came alive, you really engaged the audience. From an overall perspective, you were polished, professional, and had a great sound. I am really glad I got to see your show twice. I must also say that you are some of the classiest students around... your behavior and attitude after the awards was to be commended and you really did your school and group name proud.

Powerhouse, what can words say? Having seen your show many times, I knew that your prelims show was nowhere near the level that you were capable. And while I had no doubts you would turn it around during finals, even I wasn't prepared for what you gave us last night. It was beautiful, inspiring, and transcendent. You're everything that's right about show choir, from top to bottom. And I'm not talking about awards. You are undoubtedly some of the finest and most amazing students, parents, instructors, and human beings I know, and I am so honored to be able to call you friends. You get THIS; what sharing the gift and power of music is all about. You make me proud to be a part of California show choir and I am so glad that you were able to share this show, your vision, and your commitment with groups halfway across the country who would otherwise not have a chance to see you perform. If anything, I think you proved that a YouTube clip doesn't do anyone justice. We really have entered a new era of show choir and regardless of where it goes next and who wins what in the years down the road, I'm just grateful that you lit the spark. You probably don't even realize how influential you are, but just know that all the hard work you have put into this has been worth every scrape, tear, and sleepless night, and you have truly touched people with your voices. That's what show choir is about and that's why you are truly grand champions.

Actually, caption awards were based on the combined prelims AND finals. They said that before they gave the awards.

I'm pretty sure it was based off of prelims only. I remember the announcer saying something like, "remember, these captions are from the prelim scores, so that a choir wouldn't give a reserved performance, saving everything for finals"

Ah, okay. That makes more sense. In fact, I kind of like the idea of combining scores. Otherwise the prelim scores don't really mean anything.

BTW, does anyone know who's competing in the FAME NY Concert Choir stuff. I know Counterpoints is, but I haven't heard anything else about it.

True, but it seems odd that there would be caption awards based on non-finals results. When there are finals results to base it on.

The audience members of FAME New York experienced something magical last night. John Burrough's finals performance secured them as the premiere show choir in the United States. I'm about to catch a flight in a few hours... so I need to pack, but everyone should just understand that you missed an amazing competition. THE competition of the decade. I don't think there are words to describe what Powerhouse did tonight.

More comments to come.
