thank you... my point exactly. same show, different songs maybe, different color clothes maybe, different order of the exact same moves maybe, but same show. when competition rather than artistic merit became the driving force behind show choir, everyone started looking the same. even at the same school from year to year... new kids, new clothes, new songs, same show. that, to ME, is "cookie cutter".
...apparently Spain Park breaks the mold? It's cool apparently Highliter Green isn't apart of the mold either... " border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />
A guy goes out for dinner with his mother and look what he misses!
I will agree in part with the notion that the Midwest can be a bit "cookie cutter" in its approach to show choir, but I also think every area with any number of competitive show choirs falls victim to this complaint. The South in particular features groups that do basically the same thing (and absolutely look the same), and even SoCal groups share a similar aesthetic amongst themselves.
I don't think this always has to be a bad thing. No one wants to watch an entirely derivative show, but show choir is a tool for music education and borrowing what works from another group can sometimes result in an improvement for that program.

Does Spain Park in your opinion break free from the cookie cutter mold?
Go to any of the companies websites that photograph competitions and look at the photos of all the groups. With rare exception does anyone look very different; usually guys in a suit, then later jeans and some sort of dress shirt, maybe a sport coat, gals in a sparkly cocktail dress, then pants with some sort of slinky top. Invariably, their hair will all look the same, too. You certainly couldn't tell anything about the material being performed by the costumes. Every group could be doing the exact same shows even. That to me is cookie cutter.

but totino and ankeny are probably looking the same now lol.
You would think so, but it isn't the case... They are vocally and choreographically very different. Their shows also are on the opposite of the spectrum.
As for Urbandale and Cedar Rapids Kennedy... the only similar thing is that you know Damon choreographs for both groups upon watching them. They kind of sound the same, but in my personal opinion, Kennedy sings with more musicianship and has a more true sound to them. And their shows are night and day difference.
Well Sparky, instead of being a little prick, why don't you explain yourself like we all have? There's nothing ignorant about what he put, all 5+ of those groups look VERY different, well other than CR KEn and Urby. And I havent seen them yet, but totino and ankeny are probably looking the same now lol.
But look at Clinton, same choreographers as 3 of those groups he put and I dont think they look Anything like those others so his point could be very valid.
Sparky1, for years you've always liked to attack everything I say with such hostility, no reason to be so rude, I had to learn and I have faith you can also. May Allah bless you.
So GO FAME NYC!!! Can't wait! What are everyone else's predics?? lol
edited for mistypes, spilt wine on my keyboard and it sticks now, blah!
