I just wanna know what a cookie cutter Midwest group is...

Maybe groups that do big visuals? Smart/creative blockings? Matching/cute costumes? Just a guess...

I believe in the context of the post, he is stating that Midwestern show choir's tend to sing and dance as opposed to perform. I will say to you Trey that if you ever get the opportunity to see Burroughs, you will understand what he means.

Or he could mean that all Midwestern show choir's are eerily similar.

I believe you're confusing FAME NY 2006 and 2007 together.

In 2006 North Central did beat John Burroughs, but it wasn't until 2007 that Morgnatown's season was filmed and Findlay won the competition over Greece Athena, Fairfield and a couple other schools.

You could be completely correct, I was there both of those years, same room. They blur together to me. I remember sitting with NC parents the whole time and when Burroughs id their closer they pooped their pants. I also remember saying Findlay was gonna sweep everything and they did. So yes, you have to be correct.

And Sparky1, I am a dancer thanks, doesn't mean im gonna choreograph a show choir doing fuetes and switch leaps while the rest of the choir is singing O fortuna and walking around with electric candles before singing Phantom of tha Opera and an awful rendition of one night only or doing a horrible patriotic medley. Its tacky and innappropriate. Just my opinion. (And I've downed Burrough's choreo MANY times, so I wouldn't use thm as your example... but then the last couple of years they keep coming up with something Amazing and put me in my place. GA has yet to do that, I pray they will) I don't underestimate them, I think Judges give them way too many points for what they do. But Break a Leg Greece Athena!

So yea, my predics:
GC/1st RU - Burroughs "Powerhouse" - Vocals/Show Design
GC/1st RU - Findlay "First Edition" - Band
2nd RU - NC "Counterpoints"
3rd RU - WW "Classics" - Choreography
4th RU - CV "Main Attraction"
5th RU - GA "show choir"

What's everyone else's opinon Predics???

(Changed my mind on Choreo)

I think you may be grossly underestimating Greece Athena. I'll give you some years they are stronger than others but the two times they won FAME and the two times they won Showstoppers says they are not a fluke. Especially in the tough line ups they were in all four of those years. I've only seen them once and frankly they blew me away. They are much like a Burroughs imo where they have such passion and perform with such heart that its hard to compare them to cookie cutter midwest groups. Also, if you think they have simple choreography you obviously dont know much about REAL dance. If you consider show choir dancing to be challenging and the standard by which you determine "difficult" choreography then Greece is in a whole other league. The technique and ability I saw BLEW ME AWAY! I'm certainly not saying they will win, its a very tough line up, I'm sure the judging panel will determine that (as they should ) however, I'm just sayin.... dont count those bad mamma jammas out just yet! " border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

All I'll say is, I'm pretty sure Ryan knows more about "real dance" than most on this site.

Have yall actually seen Greece Athena before or are you just going off reputation? Cause yea... Not in the same ballpark as Burroughs, NC or Findlay. When you actually see them your opinion changes, they do small group singing with extremely easy choreo and repeated soloists and reused numbers. Defintiely a different definition of show choir. Who knows though, maybe they'll surprise me.

Im going with:
GC - Burroughs "Powerhouse" - Vocals/Choreo/Show Design
1st RU - Findlay "First Edition" - Band
2nd RU - NC "Counterpoints"
3rd RU - WW "Classics"
4th RU - CV "Main Attraction"
5th RU - GA "show choir"

then unfortunately Homewood just because of vocals/southern style, though I hope they make finals over G.A.! I'll be rootin' for ya!

This reminds me sooo much of 2006 with Burroughs somehow getting beat by NC. Greece Athena was there, maybe Chula also I think? Hart, Edgewood, Morganstown not making finals with the cameras there lol. 2006 was a good year.

FAME NYC was announced as part of Findlay's competition schedule before their exhibition performance this weekend, so it appears they definitely are in the running.

Excellent

OMG !! w00t.gif w00t.gif w00t.gif

This is FOR SURE -- WAAAY better than Chicago last year.

GREECE ATHENA - best of the east coast imo
JOHN BURROUGHS - best of the west coast imo
WHEATON WARRENVILLE - one of the best in Illinois
NORTH CENTRAL - one of the best in Indiana
FINDLAY - one of the best of Ohio
HOMEWOOD -a top notch group from the south
CHULA VISTA - a super fast rising star from the west

And look at the vocal shake down thats going to be happening at this event -- GREECE vs NORTH CENTRAL plus through in a BURROUGHS and a WHEATON?

Then look at the VISUAL throw down --- a WHEATON vs BURROUGHS and mix in the unusual stylings of GREECE and N. CENTRAL?

c'mon who else?!?!?!? w00t.gif w00t.gif w00t.gif

The Hammerstein Ballroom was definitely used by FAME in 2006 and as far as I know, it was also used in 2007. If it was not used last year, that would have been the first year it was not used.

OOps- Sorry, i forgot i was at showstoppers new york when it was in the marriot marquis ballrooms. Mistaken.

Last years event was great- the theatre in no way is a bad venue. other than those darn stairs.

I was at the event last year with Burbank, and it was in the smaller ballroom. Other than the stairs being a pain, there were no problems at all with the facility. The Hammerstein Ballroom doesn't even have a stage, so when they've done it there in the past, the stage had to be constructed.

Also, sight lines are better in this facility, the sound reverberates less, and the stage area is definitely better. The groups coming will have a quality facility to perform in, as Burbank, DeKalb, Manchester all competed there last year and I don't recall any major complaints from anyone.

It looks to be a fun and very competitive day! God bless, Damon Brown
