I just got off the phone with FAME, regarding our Branson trip, and I asked about New York, as I have that weekend free, and would LOVE an excuse to head out to NYC. Having been to FAME NY once, I don't really recall the space, and was a bit concerned about there being space available for audience members.
Basically, all the concern seems to be for naught- they were in the Grand Ballroom for the competition last year, and had no problems, either on-stage or in the audience. I believe there's some talk of at least one group from last year returning this year, so there can't have been too many problems. Sounds like there will be a few hundred seats available for all of us show choir nerds who just can't miss this competition.
Does this mean you will be joining the crowd at FAME NY?

The Hammerstein was last used as a venue by FAME in 2004.
The Hammerstein Ballroom was definitely used by FAME in 2006 and as far as I know, it was also used in 2007. If it was not used last year, that would have been the first year it was not used.
Last year the Grand Ballroom was the venue for both the Single-Gender and mixed show choir divisions. There was an event being held there the same weekend last year. The Hammerstein was last used as a venue by FAME in 2004. The Grand ballroom requires all equipment to be loaded into a small service elevator and hauled to the, i believe, 7th floor. Start replanning now, make sure those props fit, its a long haul with anything that doesnt fit. The Hammerstein takes up the 7 floors below the Grand ballroom. If FAME can organize the loading and unloading, ecspecially the unloading following finals, the Grand Ballroom is not a horrible sacrifice.
The Hammerstein has been the setting of many awards shows including the MTV awards, so it just cool to say that youve been on the same stage.
I agree, FAME should return on a weekend when the Hammerstein ballroom is available.
No venue has ever exceeded the rush of performing on that stage and looking out over a that massive, beautiful space and up to the ceiling over 3 balconies that go on for days. In the theatre Oscar Hammerstein I (we all know Oscar Hammerstein II of Rodgers and Hammerstein) built!! and beat out the Met in its hay day. IMAGINE.........
When you are there at least get through security and take a look in the Hammerstein. WORTH IT!
The Grand Ballroom has served as the venue for the Single-Gender Show Choir and Concert Choir divisions both times I have been to FAME NYC. It was also used as the 'cafeteria' for the dinner. It is a nice space, just not nearly as nice as the Hammerstein. ;)
I've heard that they only used the Grand Ballroom at last years FAME NYC. Can anyone confirm?
I don't even remember a stage being in that room....
I think I remember a stage being in there, but it didn't look big enough to do a show on. ALSO, that room must have been like 5 or 6 stories up in the building. If they perform there, it will really suck, getting band equipment and back-drops up there. " border="0" alt="ermm.gif" />
Is the Hammerstein the same as the Manhattan Center? When we went, I never heard of it refered to as the Hammerstein. " border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />
FAME should probably say something about this... so people can decide if they want to spend that kind of money to travel all the way out to NYC to see this competition.
Word on the street is that FAME will not be using the mainstage at the Hammerstein Ballroom this year. Instead, they will be using the smaller Grand Ballroom upstairs due to a scheduling conflict. The Hammerstein holds 2500 compared to The Grand's 1200. What a huge disapointment for choirs spending large sums of money to travel to New York and perform on a 34'3 stage compared to a 63'8 one.
" border="0" alt="ph34r.gif" /> Really?!?!? I heard today it will in the same place as last year.
(I forgot the name of it.

are they seriously moving it???....thats not cool....the Hammerstein Ballroom was enormous!!! thats where we performed my freshman year when we went...of course, one great point from a judges point of view was because they were so high up, they could easily tell whether diagonals and blocking were wrong...or perfect.....wasn't the Grand Ballroom where they served supper?
aweifjsdjfijfgasdhgufklasjfklsdfjsdf I really wish I could go to this competition. Sounds like it's going to be intense. XD Too bad I'm not in Powerhouse or SoundSensations....and my parents wont let me fly to NY. grrr.
Aw man, it was gonna be at the Hammerstein? That's where they used to hold one of my favorite wrestling PPV's: ECW One Night Stand. Oh well, I'm still gonna try and go to this one
