almost 8pm Sunday... and I am still exhuasted. Will take a month to recover from this.
 • Every rivalry has some tense moments. Just keep it classy, clean and polite. 'Nuff said
THANKS to everyone who has made some great comments on this competition. The live feed was well received and I have gotten so much emails thanking us for making that happen!

My thoughts and I am out...
 • The venue was awesome
 • The flame retardant was RETARDED...
 • Burbank brought their "A" game... Sounded the best I have heard them all year!
 • I LOVE Powerhouse's show! That curtain shut at the end is my favorite ending this year!
 • Congrats to Los Alamitos (Randi Carp's last So Cal competition) on making FINALS!
 • Carlsbad = most improved (congrats on placing)
 • Even though BV did not place, they were VERY CLASSY and was very supportive of everyone! My compliments!
 • ties = headaches
 • FINALS = Excitement, Intensity and one LAST chance to redo your show again!!! SO awesome seeing how everyone in finals bumped it up like 10 notches!!! WOW!
 • Who says that old guys aren't allowed to sing solos??
I've got more... but perhaps I will share them at another time

Now accepting 2008 HALL OF FAME nominations.... Start posting now!

Mr. Atienza

Best female soloist has very little effect on the whole outcome of a group. Neither do caption awards. There have been groups awarded Grand Champions with NO caption awards a few time in the past. Especially best Choreography- usually in show choir vocals are weighted more. Hense, why Burroughs lost. And I doubt there 'just happened' to be a tie. It was legit.

they won best female SOUND not female soloist...

last night was tons of fun. the venue was amazing and how could any show choir look bad with lighting like that?? hahah

In all honesty, I am still shocked by the fact that Powerhouse didn't win last night. I've never seen a group perform with as much conviction and passion as they did.

AND i also still dont understand how a group could win best female sound and best choreography and not win the whole thing.. seems kinda stranged?

and they just happened to tie?
i think that the whole drama was just the reaction of people acting on their adrenaline and excitement. I don't believe it was done to spite Powerhouse.... anyways, the season is over...

yay seniors 08!!!!

wheres everyone going?

edit:

Eek- being from the midwest when I saw best female.... i assumed it was soloist! My bad. I will admit I thought Burroughs had it won with all the caption awards- I even posted while they were announcing saying I thought they had it! Forgive my mistake

Our rivalry really is friendly and motivating for the most part. Just because certain members of a choir act a certain way doesn't mean the whole choir shares that point of view.

At least that's been my experience with people in Burbank's choirs.

I think we must take note and compliment the kids from Burbank that demonstrated such grace. For them to come onto the bus and express their feelings, at that time, is itself a powerful moment, and a lesson for all.

I love this account. Clinton is truly the definition of show choir class. Thanks for sharing "simple choir parent"!

After hearing about the experience that some of the kids from Powerhouse had to deal with and reading some of the comments here I felt compelled to share a story about a moment this year that illuminated the true spirit of the show choir community.

After the finals of Fame Chicago several of the mothers and students of Clinton Attaché
made it a point to come up to some of the students from Powerhouse. This was minutes
after awards were announced and everyone’s feelings were still strong from finding out
their placement.

“ Thank you so much” was the comment from one mother. “ You were beautiful, your set was just amazing” from another. “ I can’t believe what you kids did on that stage”. Then one of the students from Attaché gave a hug to one of our students and said how much she loved being able to see them perform.

Our students were so moved. The group of kids and parents stood there and traded compliments and appreciation for one another. What a moment. After a very competitive day this group was the embodiment of the show choir spirit that I have come to see over and over again throughout the years.

Their genuine expressions will forever be one of the best memories of 2008.

We all believe that Southern California Show Choir is one of the best in the nation
but perhaps we could all take a que from this encounter with our neighbors who live in the South. Perhaps in the zeal to proclaim the crown, it would be beneficial to take a few lessons on humility and grace.

I think we must take note and compliment the kids from Burbank that demonstrated such grace. For them to come onto the bus and express their feelings, at that time, is itself a powerful moment, and a lesson for all.

people from burbank paraded around like a cult carrying around a stuffed tigger with its head ripped off on a stick. apparently supposed to represent our circus theme, or something like that.

basically they were rubbing it in our faces that they won by ZERO points.

at least some (ones who didnt even do it) apologized.

Classy!

QUOTE(shorteli9 @ Apr 20 2008, 02:43 PM)
In response to the recent critisisms of burbank....The tigger was not in any way meant to insult any member of anyother choir... We all have our symbols of ... i guess pride (I.E. The powerhouse banner saying Powerhouse Rocks brought to Los al and hart) and this just happens to be ours..... In response to the cheering yes many of us were excited and im sorry your busses were right next to ours.... we didnt in any way mean to "rub it in" as one had stated earlier.. We at BHS have nothing but the utmost respect for the program across the way... We, along with the rest of the nation are not blind to the stunning performances that JBHS showhoirs put on each and every time they touch the stage... The emotion that flows from each and every member is an amount no other choir can touch. Our two programs at our schools i think our so lucky in the fact that the rivalry between us gives both of us so much to work for and it drives us all to truly be the best performers we can be... Unofrtunately it also sometimes drives friends and families apart (I.E. the stevens bros?)

Once again we really intended no harm on anyone and we all were just very excited to be able to say that on that given day, we were able to place higher than what many consider the strongest show choir around........ Sorry again and look foward to our football game which keaton will be explaining to powerhouse soon im sure

Happy passover all
Eli Lippman
President of Burbank High School VMA

I must say. I'm glad this did surface. No, not for its drama filled "juiciness"... but rather to show that the belief put out there by many adults, directors, professionals, and kids from the California circuit that everything is "rainbows, puppies, and ice cream" between choirs isn't as true as you all would like it to be. It gets quite annoying hearing all the time how the midwest should be more supportive like the SoCal choirs; how SoCal choirs will go to any length for each other and how we should feel bad for the constant state VS. state bickering that happens in the midwest forum. I know this seems like a really negative post... but it has been bothering me for a while. The poor choice made by Burbank to have the "tiger parade" just proves that California isn't as happy as everyone portrays it.

I do applaud the Burbank kids who went to apologize to Burroughs. But... the actions of however few the tiger parade consisted of DOES reflect something. I understand Burroughs and Burbank reside in the same city and the rivalry is tangible. But, there really is no excuse.

I also am not saying that the camaraderie is fake. I do believe that the region really does care about each other... but I just think it gets pushed in our faces a bit too much.

There... that feels better off my chest.

Congratulations to everyone who participated yesterday, especially to Chula, Tony Atienza, Brandon Smithey and Pabs Sisqueros on the amazing venue and the best sound and lighting I've ever seen at a show choir competition. Plus let me state for the record that with the possible exception of Powerhouse, Chula Vista had the best designed show of any i saw all year - great song selection, terrific arrangements, beautiful arc, plus beautifully complementary choreography and staging; exactly the way I like to see it done. But man, did those two soloists look OLD last night!!

WHAT a year. Such an incredible way to end my Show Choir career. Major props to ALL of the SoCal choirs for proving that California Show Choirs are truly forces to be reckoned with. Burbank & Burroughs, both your shows were absolutely phenomenal this year and it was a pleasure being able to compete with you. Chula, I LOVED your set, and thank you for making the last competition a memorable one [and THANK YOU FOR DOING A COLDPLAY SONG :DDD]. The video was very classy, loved the Africa number, and of course ian in a hartbreaker dress on stage for awards I mean what? [X

& a shoutout to Carlsbad for having my FAVORITE a cappella of the season. You guys were so awesome--I made sure to watch you at every competition.

As for Soundvibes, it's been an amazing year. So glad I got to be a part of the group & all the experiences even if I was a little late into it ;D. Sucked a lot of Hart couldn't stay for awards, but those of who stayed represented X]. I loved our set this year--long live the power rangers! " border="0" alt="laugh.gif" /> So many good times, and definitely memorable senior year. <33
