people on here are in much defense of poca dude, idk who you are but its useless.

martinsburg is better!

How in the world do you even know? You weren't even there and you havn't even seen the performances from the competition. You have NO IDEA, so how can you even say either way? If you weren't there or havn't seen the performances, then maybe you should hold your opinions to yourself at the risk of making yourself look like an idiot.

what the choirs in competition recieved all year long is really what matters. thats where the truth in whos more deserving lies.

This statement right here is why I sometimes wish there were no competitive events in show choir or marching band....

The judges are all very qualified, and just because they didn't like Nitro's show as well and don't think they performed as well as others does not mean that the results were so wrong. Honestly, I don't care for Nitro's show- It's a personal preference. Obviously, all judges must have been in agreement (to some degree) that Nitro was out-performed by three other choirs. If Poca would have beaten Hurricane, I think you'd have a better argument that being the host choir had a lot to do with the placings. It's a shame that one choir has to host, but that's another debate...

im just saying the show choir world is a dark dark place when it comes to getting what you deserve vs. getting what someone thinks you deserve just because they feel like it.

You don't have to agree with their scores, but I don't think any of the judges there gave out scores they felt the group didn't deserve based on the performances they gave on Saturday. They do have a very tough job, especially at an event like States where there isn't a finals round. All of the judges there were very qualified and I'm sure they did the best they thought they could. I'm done with this topic though, I think I've said just about all I feel the need to say about it at this point

I personally prefer Nitro's show over Poca's. Even if Poca sang better, I believe Nitro has a better set and choreography.

But congratulations to all anyway!

I agree with this, i've seen all three groups all year long and none of them have ever been at a loss vocally to poca. and poca has a very good show this year don't get me wrong however diction and execution of coreo hasn't been spectacular once all year. While vocally martinsburg, nitro, and sa are very sound. sa does falter in coreo and projection but in my opinion both martinsburg and nitro had more going for them at a professional standpoint. This is all my opinion and what i saw at the competition on saturday wasn't exactly the best outcome, i just think that appearance and performance taken into account poca placed higher than they should've over two very accomplished groups this season. but the trophies have been dealt and the scores are final im just saying the show choir world is a dark dark place when it comes to getting what you deserve vs. getting what someone thinks you deserve just because they feel like it.

all the groups did amazing jobs however and it should have been close just ordered differently, idk

It's also important to note that though vocals make up over half the points, they don't make up all the points.

st. albans, nitro, and martinsburg all sing better than poca, always have. and over half the vocal pts make up the placings

This is not necessarily true. I believe the past 2 years Cabell Midland hosted the competition and were not announced as 1st or 2nd or even 3rd. Hosting the competition honestly has little if nothing to do with the results. The judges have seen these choirs throughout the year, and typically, the results were the same at the other competitions.

the host has historically done well...the two years at Midland were the exception. There was a long streak of the host winning, but that hasn't happened in a few years. During that streak the top 3-4 groups were normally pretty close in scoring, so the host group winning was always a hot topic for debate. There hasn't been a winner that didn't deserve it I don't think, but there have been a few years were one or two others could have just as easily won.

Poca was the second best vocal group of the day in my opinion as well. Nitro sang well also, but weren't nearly as vocally powerful as Poca was.

I also don't 100% agree with the results. My predictions were more like

GC Hurricane
1ru Nitro/Martinsburg
2ru Nitro/Martinsburg
3ru Poca
4ru St. Albans

Anyways, Congrats to all the groups. Hurricane deff. deserved that GC but Nitro and Martinsburg where my pick for 1ru! this is just my opinion but i think they should of placed higher than poca. I understand that this was poca's best preformance and also nitro's i think? but anyways i know the hosting group alwayss does better than usual! anyways my absolute favorites were Hurricane, Martinsburg and Nitro but i also like poca's show!
congrats

Let me also say that the festival division thing through me for a loop this year...

When South Harrison came out to canned music, I'd never been so confused in my entire life.

That threw me off too...I knew it was coming though because I was sitting right in front of the sound board before the show. Where those the only two groups in the festival division? It didn't say anything about it the program...

I guess that being said, I thought all the show choirs were fantastic on Saturday, and I found it to be a really hard-fought battle for the top five places, especially for second-place, as I believe that arguments could've been made for Poca, Martinsburg, and Nitro.

It was good to see another great state competition, and congrats to Kincaid again for hosting a great affair.

I agree with you, my issue is not that he/she thinks the results should be different..I'm all for everyone being able to say what they want about events...I just don't like the fact he/she felt the need to judge without even being at the event...or at least seeing it on video.

Just to further qualify GASax's opinion. I too thought Poca definitely had the second best vocal performance of the day. Just my opinion, doesn't mean it's right, but I was at least there to assess my opinion firsthand.

Show choir results fluctuate. Heck, just a couple weeks ago Piqua was beating Marysville going into finals at Twinsburg, one week later, they are 5th runner-up behind three choirs they were beating at Twinsburg...

Competitions would be no fun if results never changed.

And this is show choir, you are NEVER going to have everyone agree with the results, it depends on who you ask at the right time.

Lets not bring this board down with the fighting (as so many have broken into this year)

Congratulations to all groups competing at states!!!

In my opinion, every group has done an excellent job representing West Virginia well throughout the year. Big congrats to the top finishers and to Casey Edwards and Rachel Krall for your overall Best Soloist awards. This has been a tremendous year for West Virginia show choir!

all i have to say about that is, you have no time on your hands do ya? i've talked to alot of ppl about this competition and nobody has seemed to agree with the results, but i'm done with this.

how does "having no time on his hands" have anything to do with it?

Congrats to all the groups, i've never gotten the pleasure of seeing the groups live as i live here in IA, i enjoy watching the shows on YouTube. Come over to the midwest more!
