It looks like my Otown "Ovations" were on the bubble and just missed the Finals. Did anybody get a chance to see them? Can you guys give me a set list and your impressions of their show?
Now ScottB, was that necessary? If your are going to be that sarcastic you could at least capitalize and punctuate correctly.
The above paragraph would more correctly be stated:
"Well nobody can compare to the vocal splendor of JA, gracielou; but, I think Attache sounded incredible at Homewood. They sound better than last year.
Shouldn't it be:
"Well, nobody can compare to the vocal splendor of JA, gracielou; but I think Attache sounded incredible at Homewood. They sound better than last year."

I think Clinton's sound is weaker this year. It's hard to come off a great year like they had last year and be as strong. Even the people in Attache will admit that this is one of their weaker years. However, no matter how much weaker they are, unless some other school steps it up, their streak will continue.

All I can tell you is I listened to West Jones in the Prelims at Opelika and I heard them at Homewood and it wasn't even close to the same quality of sound. I would agree that I think Clinton is not as strong vocally as in the past, but you also have to consider that to my knowledge this was the first competition that Clinton has attended this year. Most groups make lot of improvement from the first comp. to the second, so it might be wise to see how they sound at the next comp.
What if Clinton's not as strong vocally as they have been in years past. That is also a possibility stop blaming it all on the acoustics and Homewood's auditorium. Groups can't stay untouchable forever maybe that will be how Clinton falls this year. Because I watched the video and yes they dance near perfect but they did not blend well at all vocally. All around it was a great show, but nothing can ever top "Free Bird". lol.
It's hard to answer that question as the auditorium at Homewood just does not carry sound well, say in comparison to the one at Opelika, so it's hard to give you an answer.
The microphones weren't very good either, which ended up being severely detrimental to the groups who manufacture the majority of their vocal sound by placing their singers directly on the microphones. The groups who produced a genuine wall of sound, on the other hand, had much better blend; they might not have been as loud, but their overall sound was, at least in my opinion, significantly less cacophonous.
I am going to save the majority of my opinions from this weekend for private discussion because they are rarely well-accepted on this website. However, I will say that I thought Enterprise was by far the most well-rounded, genuine group of the day, and, for some reason, those qualities do not translate well to the score sheet. Also, I realized this weekend more than ever my genuine appreciation for groups who sound like mature high school students. It is obvious which directors try to teach their students how to sing and not how to sound.
They do run through the board for solos and stuff I believe, but they do have their own mics. We had to set up a cable running from the sound board through to them, but what exactly they took from it, I'm not sure.
ProCat uses their own mics and does not run through the board as I understand it. You can see 4 tall microphones in the Homewood YouTubes and those are ProCats.
That is not quite the point I was making. I simply answered in reply to the question about video sound quality, that I had noticed a difference for all groups on the video play back. I'm not sure if the videographer patches directly into the house sound board, or if they have separate microphones placed in the auditorium. Either way, it would not pass judgement on the quality of a group based on a youtube post's sound quality.

so the videos did them NO justice?

the videos on youtube of clinton this year don't sound very good at all ... is that just the acustics of the auditorium?
Not all video is a good subsitute for a live performance. Hearing the groups live, then listening to their shows played back in the lobby later I noticed a marked difference in sound quality.
