The ballads from finals that I can remember are:
Milton: You Inspire Me
Brodhead: I'll Follow You Into the Dark
Craig: Everything That I Am
sorry, I can't remember Mundelein, or Wahlert

mundelein sound is dreams to dream
lights is beautiful
and sound fx is walking in memphis (i cant spell that but its that town in tennessee) lol

Yes very comical...

One thing to remember when posting, if its something you regret saying and end up deleting later, it probably wasn't appropriate in the first place. In the words of our 16th president...

"Tis better to be silent and be thought a fool, than to speak and remove all doubt."

-Abraham Lincoln

Think about it before you post!

I love how all of the Wahlert posts are gone now. Very comical.

After I thought about this for a little bit, I realized that not having a ballad could either help or hurt your scores, so I guess it's up to you. Just makes it harder for normal people in the audience to judge from their seats

I feel like everyone has their own opinion and that is what is wonderful about this website. Everyone can post their feelings. I feel like the fact that people are picking at complete strangers about ballads (kevin i am talking you ) is ridiculous. All choirs are different that is what is great and makes people competitive. The fact that we don't do a ballad is just a way we compete. But ballads are beautiful and can really shape a show. So not to be the 'bad guy' but honestly stop arguing a topic that is so subjective to each choir and there personal style.

Yeah, Fort does have a really nice gym. And overall a very nice venue for a contest.

Right, show choir is about singing first, and is it our fault if we can do both at the same time?

That is just a ridiculous statement in general.

This demonstrates what I'm saying quite well.

I mean ignorant in that there's clearly a lack of understanding as to why other show choirs might sing ballads.

I am absolutely fine with another show choir not doing a ballad- go for it! If it works for your show, own it! But the fact that there's a belief that other choirs sing ballads because they simply can't hack it vocally without sitting or standing still... that tells me you aren't understanding something about why other choirs might do what they do. It has nothing to do with whether a group can or can't sing and dance at the same time. Nothing.

agreed.

Too much choreography would take away from appropriately conveying the meaning of the song.

Traditionally, the rules, at least around here, state that the choir may perform any program they wish. With that being said, the ballad is the one time in the show that shows which choirs sing and which choirs SING. Show choir was, is, and always should be about being a choir first, and this is where that comes to the forefront.

By the way, I agree with Ana, ignorant is absolutely the correct term.

Clever, not really. Irritated by ignorant philosophies being passed on to students, absolutely.
