Well now for my comments... first of all this was an extremely well-run competition. The school is a maze (I got lost at least six or seven times), but there was always someone to point me in the right direction. What a killer lineup of judges that Mt. Pleasant was able to get, too! Unfortunately, I was never able to see Iowa City West... I was at speech in the morning, and you guys went right after us in finals. I heard GREAT things about your show however. I only saw three varsity groups (including In-Step, because let's face it, they were basically a varsity group at this comp.), two of them in finals and one of them (CSI) twice.

Davenport Central Very enteraining show. In my opinion, the best song selection and the strongest vocals that I was able to hear all day. All of your soloists were outstanding. This show REALLY impressed me, and both times I saw it, it worried me too (which is a good thing). Keep it up and you guys will definitely continue to do well.
Davenport North-I thought this was the crispest, cleanest show that I saw all day. For a group that small to compete with groups that have 10-15 more members, it is an accomplishment. Once again I was very impressed with the show... some more great soloists here. What is it about D-port and amazing solos?
In-Step- Definitely the most artistic show. And I do mean that in a good way. I met a few of you and you're great people. Like I said before, if no one told you, you'd have trouble telling that you guys were a prep group. There shouldn't be any down years for 10th Street in the near future.

All in all, a great contest. I don't think I get the chance to see hardly any of these groups again, but I hope I'm wrong.
P.S. The Davenport/Xavier/Linn Mar side of the gym definitely won the screaming contest

Thanks for your comments! I loved your show too!

I couldn't agree more... if you look back in the last 8 years of show choir in Davenport, you could hold an entire concert full of amazing soloists. Davenport West has always been blessed with individual soloists... it's good to hear the tradition continues with the other schools as well.

What can I say, except for that this competition ROCKED!

Dav. North
You guys have made almost a night and day change between last year's show and this year's show. You guys are so vocally good! I was singing "Move" practically the whole day. D-PORT!

IC West
I had never seen any of your guys' shows before, and I was pleasently surprised with what I saw. The Supergeek thing was pretty funny, because you guys were getting so into it. It actually reminded me of our novelty. This morning I was sitting at the computer, and my mom goes "IC West's Supergeek song, did that remind you of anyone" lol

and now onto my favorite group of the day

CR Xavier
You guys were definately the best group out there. The gorilla song sort of....perplexed me, at best. You're guys' closer however, was absolutely OFF THE HOOK! You guys have such a wonderful combo. You guys definately had the most energy out there, and deserved the placement you got. Congrats

Once again, phenomenal job to all of the groups! w00t

Since I'm sick today and not going to work... I'll speak my mind on groups and the competition atmosphere in general.

Davenport Central- glad to see we could both come together and support one another. You guys did great. D-PORT! If there an award for Most Spirit it would probably have to go to both of us. (...or Xavier with their little stomp/clap thing)

---Blue Vibes: Good Job!
---CSI: Awesome Vocals and Choreography, but at times it was a little to much choreography and not enough vocals, e.g. the opener I was thinking "when are they going to sing?" lol. Congratulations!

Xavier-Wasn't really expecting to much from you guys. For the first few songs I was like okay-just another mediocre show choir with good vocals, then I saw the cheesy little flag for the ballad, but then the last two songs. WOW amazing, so clean, so nice, so moving, the band on stage added that much more, the costumes were just the right amount of BAM and GREEN. Keep up the good work.

SE Polk-You guys did RENT! (right?) Some of your girls were really getting into the songs which was nice. Your ballad was very nice. Good Job!

Muscatine
-Since we were waiting in the hallway for you to get finished so Center Stage could perform I could hear your guys' whole show. I've heard from other people that your show is very entertaining with the whole food theme. Lemme tell you, your band sounds amazing from 50 feet away in a cramped steamy hallway. Your closer sounded very similar to the John Burroughs arrangement from 05. I felt really sad that you guys didn't make finals.

Mt. Pleasant-Thanks for hosting a great competition. Your show was fun and it looks like you guys had fun with it too.

The Competition
The food was good. Your school is nice. The stage dad's were really helpful. Nice hosts. HOT!

I love how when finalists were announced and everyone was dismissed the "jump on it" song came on and everyone just stopped and started dancing.

I thought it was stupid how they wouldn't let Xavier come on stage and go crazy.

There should have been more bouncy balls to throw around lol, those were cool.

The critique judge was so niiice.

That announcer dude really wanted to get out of there at finals it seemed like. lol.

D-PORT!

P.s. The Davenport/Xavier/Linn Mar side of the gym definetely won the screaming contest

The entire premise of the screaming contest was not fair. On the Xavier side of the gym, there were at least 3 times as many people than there were on the Iowa City West side. In terms of volume produced per person, the West side definitely won.

The arrangement is very similar to John Burroughs from '05. I based our version off of theirs. It has been my favorite show choir song for a while and I was very excited to be able to do it this year.

Congrats to all the schools yesterday. Mt. Pleasant hosted a great competition and things ran very smoothly.

Needless to say my kids were a little upset yesterday with only being away from finals by three points blushing.gif , but we got some wonderful critiques and we now have a plan to make our show better for next week @ Keokuk.

Good luck to everyone the rest of this season.

I'm pretty sure Xavier and the group with the orange shirts were getting jealous of our D-PORT!

Hahaha, i know Xavier was jealous of it. A couple of my friends and I actually joined in the the D-PORT cheer, it was a lot of fun. It also sounded like our Stomp-Clap rhythm thing got some people into it too

Sounds like the Davenport "D-Port!" cheer lives on! That was always so fun. I'll never forget that one fleeting moment at Mo Show 2004 where all of us (West, Central, North) came together and were making other schools mad by being so loud and supportive of eachother with our famous "D-Port!" call.
