As a director, I have to say that I have meant every word that I have ever posted on this forum.

I still mean what I say, I would NEVER do canned material that choreographers sell over and over again. It is up to the director to design his/her own show and not accept leftovers!

But I am sure that you might not understand all of this yet since you are a student.

I believe that there is much disrespect in your words above and I can tell you that you do not represent your choir very well.

Among all of my show choir director friends is alot of respect and collaboration. AND we all encourage and respect each other and each other's work. We go to SCA together and regularly judge each other's auditions and talk.

So.....maybe you should just not start something on here. We do not need animosity....only encouragement. There is nothing wrong with stating that I WILL NOT do canned choreo or music!

Look show choir4eva you have a right to your opinion as well as the rest of us do to ours. I should have know better than to start a serious post on this board as most of you can't handle it. While some of the things you pointed out may be true, it's also true that Impact used several songs that have been done over and over, the backdrops are who knows how old, so the point is and was it lacks originality. Now if you want to say that's bashing your group then as I said you have a right to your opinion. Your information says you're a student how would your're school board feel if they knew you're on here talking to a teacher the way you are? Once again let me say I really liked Impact's show it was very good and they did a great job, but that dosen't mean that I can't say there were some areas that it could be beter in does it?

I am sorry you feel that way, also i am not a student of Pascagoula High School. I graduated last year and i dont know how to change my status to Alumni

The "solo" part of the competition is where they have people sing for a seperate judge through the day.
Then they pick the top 3 (or how every many final solo spots) and they prefom between the choirs at finals, and the best one wins...

Well SC FAN I think you have it right on the money!!!

It is hard to sit there and watch groups that have done the same songs with the exact same choreography over and over again for at least the last 10 years. AND that they think they should be rewarded for doing this.

We can go on You tube and see "Ride Like the Wind" by several groups using the same choreo...and Hernando's Hideway...when Opelika did it with Therea Rine in 2005. Same choreo, same song.....

AND ANOTHER THING.....how many colors can that sequined dress come in with the hanging tassels and beads????

I would refuse to pay any choreographer for already used stuff...PERIOD!!!!

And you ARE SO RIGHT!!! It is much harder to sing when actually dancing...instead of doing drill team armography like some groups like to do.

I would MUCH RATHER see a group with original material, a personality, and moves that are entertaining that keep the audience entertained instead of a well-oiled machine. HOW BORING!!!!

#1 You show me on youtube where you see "Ride like the wind" with the same choreo.

#2 It was not ANY of the show choirs fault that got the same dress. When they get them dresses from Gail she is not allowed to tell other groups who has what dresses so there is no way they could help that.

Your wrong there. I typed in show choir ride like the wind and only 4 videos showed up that were show choir. 2 pascagoula, 1 Edgewood Music Warehouse in 2001(started the same formation but thats not their fault that would be Mr. Shawn Ecks), and 1 for another school that wasnt even the whole video and the parts it had were not the same choreography. Besides many choreographers use the same choreography for the same songs that have been done before. Next time you try and post something like that know what you are talking about.

Let me stick my nose in here!!! First off... Me are probably the only people that saw every group!! Some of them twice!! Lol! I think that all the groups did a great job for it being so early in the year!! I really enjoyed the weekend! I was wore out, but it was fun!

I absolutly loved the Oak Mountain Men!! Hilarious!! Yall all need to see them!! Can't remember which girls group did the Coffee Show, but just like the girl at the end... I really had to go after it! There was some great performances this weekend and I look forward to the coming weeks!

I agree... This is not the place to bash or talk bad about any other group!! This is a place where we can come and make positive comments about each other and to encourage each other, other than that there should be no bashing!! Personally... I think that JonesOnStage won last night!!!

As far as what I think, I will never talk bad about anyone!! I truly believe that everybody did a great job and have worked very hard to get to where they are right now!! I truly believe that as long as you do your best.. You are all a winner in my book!!

See yall around!!
CompanyDad(aka... The guy saying "mic check 1... 1..2 check 1!!) Lol!!!

Ok show choirforeva let me respond to you as well, in my first post I stated that the only group (and I meant the only finals group) I saw was Pascagoula and that they were very good. I did not say they just stood there and waved there hands around, however if you want my opinion, they do come out and stand and sing at the beginning of the show and it sounded amazing. I also feel that their choreo is not as hard as many of the larger groups and this does give them an advantage somewhat in the vocal area. Now once again I did not see Homewood or Albertville from the audience perspective so I did not commet on them specifically. Yes Pascagoula has a good show and sang very well, it just was a supprise to me they won vocals over the big groups. It also seems that originality is not rewarded by the judges at all, as most of the songs Impact sang had been done many times. Those are just my opinions and I know many will not agree with them.

Hey johnsaloser I am going to asume you misread my post, because I did not disrespect Albetville or Homewood in any way. My first line in the original post was I am shocked, as shocked that Pascagoula beat both your group and Albertville. I went on to say that a small group should not be able to out sing a large group unless they is someting unusual or they are not well prepared and that I did not think that Homewood or Albertville feel into those categories(ie being unprepared). Maybe you just need to not read my posts, if you have a problem based on a conversation last year well you need to get over it or pm me I will not carry on this conversation with you on this forum. Oh and by the way I'm not a child. Try just reading the posts that start out wow everybody did so good and I just really loved your show and you'll be ok. By the way I did see and hear some of Homewood's and Albertville's show it was just from backstage and as you said and I will give you that point. I wish I had of seen the shows, and then maybe I would have better understood the results. I really think my post must have went over your head cause I was not running your group down at all.

Someone ask who the judges were well I know three of the four, Ladonna Ferguson (PRC Choral Director) Tammy Carney (Clinton Middle School Director), and Chad Alexander. Let me shoot this down up front, NO I am not saying the judges got things wrong. I am saying that for a smaller group to out sing a much larger group something unusual has to happen or the larger group has been poorly prepared, and I don't think Albertville and Homewood fall into that category! Food for thought another way a small group can out sing a larger group is if they stop and sing or use a lot of hand motions in lue of difficult dance sequences. It's much more difficult to sing and dance at the same time than if you are not moving. My guess is that responses to this will be interesting to say the least.

Well you are looking at it wrong, it is not that Pascagoula was louder, its that the Judges thought the tone quality was better. Another thing...did you even see Pascagoula yesterday? Because if you are saying Impact stood there and only sang then there must be something wrong with your eyes...because that is the best choreography they have had, and for you to imply they just moved their hands around is an understatement. Your RUDE and OUTLANDISH remarks against ANY school on this website are uncalled for and I personally think you need to represent whatever choir you come from a little better.

Is it that hard to accept, that just ONCE in the show choir world a Middle division choir could have done better than a Large division...or our we all too engulfed in "Show Choir Politics" to realize that? Just because you have more people on stage does not mean you are going to automatically be better. Yes, having more people on the stage gives you greater odds of sounding better but it is not a "free ticket" to first place...I am so upset with what Show Choir has become to some people...no one wants to just do it for fun anymore. Everyone just wants to bash each others choir and not respect how hard they worked, how much they practiced, and how much they put into the show...I don't understand that. Why is it so hard for people to respect each other and get off their high horse?

Personally I think everyone did a great job yesterday

Homewood - AMAZING, I loved watching your show, once again Mr. Scott put together a winner! The choreography was great as always!

Jackson Academy - That is the best yall have ever been. I loved the show and you all seem very dedicated!

Albertville - I love the fact yall started out very 90's show choir, and then ended on the other end of the spectrum, i was not expecting it...but it was put together very well and is very creative!!

Pascagoula - Yall did AMAZING as well, I am so proud of you all! Keep up the good work and practice hard like you always do!

Hey Trey did you notice I said "everything being equal" so in your case I guess that would include the three D's. Hey I saw a group of about thirty two once out sing a group of forty six at Belmont, at least according to the judges, O did I mention that group was from Illinois and about seven of the nine judges lived in or went to school in Illinois. Someone ask who the judges were well I know three of the four, Ladonna Ferguson (PRC Choral Director) Tammy Carney (Clinton Middle School Director), and Chad Alexander. Let me shoot this down up front, NO I am not saying the judges got things wrong. My response of course would be that "everything isn't equal" I mean... groups approach show choir differently. Some focus more on vocals... some on choreo... some on diction (too much sometimes)... etc. I doubt that at the competition yesterday that ALL the groups (aka... everything being equal) had excellent diction while singing difficult 6-part songs and adhering to the dynamics of the songs.

There's a reason Clinton wins vocals at almost every contest... and it's NOT because they are the biggest group (because there are usually several that have more members). It's because they have an excellent director... they have terrific talent... and they pay attention to details... match that with nearly flawless execuation and viola. Though I understand what you are trying to say, it's just not the case in reality... because everything is never equal.

In all honesty i thought it was between Albertville and NE Jones in finals... they were both very entertaining and Albertville's show design made you think but i thought Albertville really should have at least won show design...
