How can you say "nice to see Findlay is on the rise"? They won FAME New York last year over some really great groups, they won at Kettering Fairmont, and they were in the finals at Fairfield...probably the most competitive festival in recent memory. I'm sure they appreciate your kind words, but I don't think they ever "fell."

Dude who cares who fine polished the "Geek" song. It is always a funny thing to see! I personally find them hilarious and if u don't well then that is your opinion but there is no point bashing any other groups performances!
Its nice to see that findlay, olentangy and beavercreek are on the rise this year. i must admit this is a great year for ohio groups!!!!!

It's easy to get a bunch of guys to act goofy and do some butt shakes for a cheap laugh. In fact, it worked so well for them last year, here they are again this year with the same old idea.
I think it's fine for a silly laugh, but I'll take something fresh and clever - by this I mean SMART humor - any day of the week.
Also, novelty in Ohio was not polished and conceived by Garfield. Their timing just happened to be lucky last year in that Ohio hadn't seen a geek number in awhile. This year....well...it seems they are just riding on Super Geek's success rather than trying something new. Good for them for being safe.
I didn't say that they had conceived it, however I think they've brought attention to it,. So I guess I loosely used the term "polished".

this is a gutsy post. the wording's a bit more abrasive than what i would have used, but i agree with the sentiment entirely. while there certainly isn't any grave injustice done by repeating a successful formula, you are still doing exactly that: repeating a formula. the choirs i am entertained and impressed by most are those that take risks and do something unique to their own group. all show choir performers have few years to enjoy a potentially wonderfully enriching and educational activity. why not create something wholly your own during that time?
i never knew us doing that song (or anyone doing something of the sort before us) could bring up something like this. i mean, ill have to see beavercreek do the song and see what you are all saying before i really can judge (if someone could put a video up of them later since im not going to a comp that they are), but if it wa ssomething that works, why not take a chance? we see it all the time with the choreography being used by different choreographers than the original. if something is that good that you want to use it because of the results it has gotten in the past, then by all means go for it. its not like anything in the show choir world has a copyright on it

Garfield's "Super Geek" was hysterical last year, and in fact I talked to Antwon Chavis to let him know I thought it was BRILLIANTLY conceived and executed by the guys. In fact, Garfield's entire show was absolutely wonderful and deserving of all the awards it received.
While the first part of Beavercreek's "She's a Lady" in unashamedly a nerd number (albeit with very different choreography than Garfield), it transitions into ladies sending the guys offstage to become "real men" as the biker chick ladies sing "Born To Be Wild. Finally, the last third of the song is done with the guys in new costumes transforming into "studs" that the ladies love as the two songs are sung at the same time.
Both groups do a great job. Both groups are successful. Both groups get along. And I certainly hope it's fair to say, both groups have always respected each other. Just clarifying. God Bless and hope everybody's having a great start to a great season, Damon Brown
im surprised to see beavercreek ranked so high, for me their show seemed like a poor man's version of garfield last year.

Yes Garfields had great guys numbers. But as i recall beavercreek has been novelty numbers before garfield. no one was copying anyone. it's their director and choreographers choice. Beavercreek is on fire this year along with olentangy. Olentangy was turly amazing!! =)
And i know findlay just finished the second half of their show this week so that could be why everything isnt perfect yet!
This makes me feel a whole heck of a lot better for Findlay... I wasn't completely sold on FFE's show this past Fall (I was praying that was their fall show and indeed it was) so knowing this makes me excited to see Findlay again... I love me some FFE! " border="0" alt="happy.gif" /> anyways...

First off, thanks to the staff, students and parents of Findlay High School for a well run Findlay FEst. Everyone is always made to feel welcome at Findlay. Please note, that the following is my opinion, for whatever it’s worth. Please don’t be offended. I was somewhat surprised after hearing the awards. Here is my two cents.
Nitro: May I applaud your group in how far you’ve come in the past few years. You really made West Virginia proud last night. You as a whole have a very creative show. I have to say my favorite part was your opening with Anastasia, very nice. My main concern is to make sure you’re not over-singing in the start of the show. I know it’s meant to be impressive, but watch that you aren’t damaging your voice. My main beef during your finals performance was that your combo was far overpowering and covering your vocals in many spots. Be very careful of that. The show did seem to loose some steam near the end as well. Overall, creative show and keep up the good work.
Fairfield: You all had a nice show as well. Once again, I really enjoyed your opener. Tarzan is very popular this year, but it works well for you. As always you have a very nice sound. I enjoyed the ballad. Ladies be careful at the end of the ballad when you’re singing “ff” that it does not sharp, always listen to one another. The closer was good, but I didn’t feel the dancing was as up to par as it usually was for Fairfield. Overall, a solid show and a great job. I also really enjoyed watching your Bass player he was rocking out in the back. Mr. Clark still is doing great things with Fairfield.
Beavercreek: Beavercreek I loved your show, it was very entertaining to watch. This is the strongest I’ve seen Beavercreek in many years. You all sing very well. The ballad was beautiful. It was definitely the most technical and difficult ballads of the evening, and you performed it well. I always love Beavercreek’s tone and sensitivity to the music. Bravo on the ballad. I also appreciate the fact that this group never over-sings. Thank your director. The guy’s number was hilarious, props to Damon on that one. The girl’s number was good, but I feel this is where the show dropped a bit in energy. It’s seems too low for the ladies' range and a lot of sound isn’t produced because of it. Also, work out your costume change issues. I know every competition is different, but have a plan A and B for costumes so everyone makes it out on time. I loved the closer. Great song selection, well performed, and great energy. I would have placed you much higher than 4th. Know you did a great job!
Medina: Nice job to you tonight as well. I enjoyed your opener however diction was an issue for me. I could not understand you in the opener. Diction improved after that. Ladies work on making your tone not so bright. That’s just a personal preference. I really enjoyed your closer. It had a lot of energy. Nice job.
Olentangy: First off, congratulations on your first ever grand champion. There is nothing quite like that feeling. Way to go. I must say, that your vocals were some of the best of the evening. Excellent blend and great tone. Bravo on that. I really enjoyed the opening from Spring Awakening, however I didn’t understand how it fit with the rest of the opener itself. It just didn’t flow for me, but it was performed very well. I loved your ballad as well. The guy’s number was funny, but I had a very hard time understanding what you were saying. The closer was solid as well. The choreography was predictable Andy Haines. It wasn’t Andy’s best choreography, but it was performed well and was fairly clean. What made you shine was your great vocals and energy. Keep up the good singing and congrats on your first win!
Findlay: Woah, Findlay has a back drop. Is this a first? Nothing too technical mind you, but still a backdrop. You guy’s did very well considering it was so late. As usual it was a classic Findlay show. I appreciate the work you all do. I enjoyed the tap number, but actually felt it closed more than the closer did. The Latin number just didn’t do much for me. I’m sure the guy’s song was funny, but I couldn’t get many of the words. I feel you guy’s sound is a stronger sound than the girls. Girls you need to open up and let that sound out. I enjoyed the ballad. I’ve heard that arrangement before, but it was performed admirably. So, Findlay just work out some of the technical small things, and you will be the Ohio threat you are used to being. Thanks for a great competition.
I agree with the previous post...minus a couple things with olentangys vocals...and I think that it should have been really close between olentangy and beavercreek. No one should be surprised that Olentangy won GC...for the past year or so they have been a ticking time bomb just waiting to win. Now that Olentangy has a GC under their belt they can start the climb to becoming one of the big powerhouses of Ohio! It was only a matter of time before Olentangy's huge amount of heart and dedication won them a competition. CONGRATS TO OLENTANGY ON THE GC!!!!
