Praire was phenominal. I knew from the moment they stepped off after their first show that they would win. They sing better than any group I've ever seen this early, and dance really well as well. Their song selection includes "Eli's Coming", "Eleanor Rigby", and "Hey Mambo". There is, of course, more, but it was simply phenominal.
Linn-mar had fantastic choreography, April James was on the top of her game with them this year. They sing well, and have a package, Prairie was just a little bit more vocally stable. Apparently Linn-Mar has missed 17 hours of rehearsal because of snow storms and such, but once they get going into the season a bit more, they are going to be a force this year.
Hastings was kind of unexpected for me. They had a fairly normal show until the "Boxing" section. They open with "Stay" by Dave Matthews. Choreographically it's really demanding, and vocally the guys have a fantastic sound. The women are also very tight vocally. The boxing section of the show didn't really excite me that much, it was more like "here we go again", but this time, it really didn't work too well. They sang it well, and danced it well, but trying to play a story on boxing and fighting, just didn't work well. Choreographically, they were very very very clean for the intense and fast choreography they have been given.
Ok this is what I heard from some Linn-Mar people (my dear sister):
Linn-Mar is in first place 3 points ahead of Hastings riverside company. Linn-Mar also won Best Band and Best Male Soloist (DiAndre Neville). I know Monona Grove is performing first in finals, Cedar Rapids Prairie is performing 2nd. Linn-Mar goes 4th. Hastings goes either 5th or 6th. Thats all the information I was able to get.
I'm sure some of you will see me periodically tomorrow. I'll be there all day, minus the break (which I'll be going to Central to check up on GCS's Weaver Weekend). I'll probably sit near Ana and the "crew" so come say hi!!

None of the groups from my school are competing at Viterbo, but this was a competition I could NOT miss! I am SO EXCITED, and completely ready to get back into competition mode! Me and some friends are planning on being there all day, so it should be a fun one for sure. Its also really nice to be able to watch a competition you're not competing in because there isn't any pressure to win; you can simply enjoy the wonders of show choir
GOOD LUCK TO ALL THE GROUPS, I'M SURE YOU'LL DO FANTASTIC!
I agree. I went to Viterbo in 2005 just to watch (well our prep group was competing but we weren't) anyways. I had a SUPER fun time. This competition was really relaxed and a ton of fun! Good luck to everyone tomorrow! If anyone is there that knows my sister, say hi!
Katy I think its "My friends and I" lol but w/e Gosh this will be a sweet comp!! yippy for the drive at 730am tomorrow!! Good Luck to all and maybe we will see you
