that's cause they're not a prep group. lol. i explained this earlier, but we have four choirs at burroughs, two prep, intermediate groups, and two advanced groups. one girls one mixed. sooo....
you didn't look at them like a prep group, cause they're not. haha.
sorry about that! I just assumed they were, because Powerhouse is obviousally your best group, and I bet the girls in sound sensations tried out for Powerhouse too (just assuming). So instead of prep I'll say not varsity. lol. my point was that it was rather remarkable that they beat out varsity choirs to make finals at one of the most competitive competitions in history.
Wow. You really had to post Burbank's results in the FAME Chicago thread? Unbelievable.
First, full disclosure. I am a Burbank High VMA alumni parent who has great friends in many of the Southern California choir programs including Burbank's biggest "rival", John Burroughs.
While this particular topic deservedly has many more pages than others, it was a bit sad to see such little interest in New York's smaller, but no less important (to those several competing choirs and their directors) Fame event.
As a Southern Californian, I chose the most heavily trafficked forum to proudly bring attention to the national successes of Cali's many choirs, its most recent success being Burbank's.
That's all.
tscott's reply was truly unnecessary and disappointing.
P.S. Ask anyone from Burroughs, Chula, and Hart. I INVENTED the chill pill......
because Burroughs choreography has always seemed really stiff and non-flowy,
i don't think i've ever heard anyone call our choreography stiff and non-flowy...
it's normally the opposite, it's not as clean cause it's not stiff so can't be clean...
ummm... okay...
haha whatever.
We all are very proud of the City of Burbank and both great high school programs. Let's keep the rivalry at the competitions and just appreciate and respect each other in forums like this.

SPECIAL BULLETIN.....
Those OTHER Burbank choirs, IN SYNC and IMPRESSIONS, just swept Fame NY.
In 2008, 6 advanced groups from 4 California schools entered comps in Sullivan, Hawaii, Chicago, and New York, 3 of them Fame events.
All got GC's. Sweeeet.
WE NOW RETURN YOU TO YOUR REGULARLY SCHEDULED NERD-FEST.....
/-)
Hey, congrats to Burbank! Wow, didn't show choir originally begin as something more centered in the east? You can see how it has spread since that time, west coast California offers so many top notch schools who can compete with the likes of Clinton and other show choir giants. Hart, Burbank, John Burroughs...all from California! By the way...Häakon, thank you so much for the clips! They are unbelieveable! Burroughs just blew me away, and North Central's dance number was completely breathtaking!!!
Wow. You really have to post your professional web address in the FAME Chicago thread?
While responding in a condescending tone at 1:45 in the morning?? Unbelievable.
The point is...I guess we in Burbank are as proud of our work as you are of
YOUR work.
We also happen to be very proud of how the entire City of Burbank is represented in the
show choir world--by two outstanding programs that have worked very hard to achieve
their respective successes. Forgive us for sharing our enthusiasm in a forum where we're
apparently not allowed to go.

(P.S. Congratulations, again, to Burroughs for a great, great win--and for helping to spur 60+ pages
of such captivating show choir discussion.)

So I have officially watched Clinton, Burroughs, North Central, and Waubonsie Valley from Chicago. Just a few thoughts:
Clinton: Like always, I loved the show and it has improved GREATLY since the beginning of the season (that's wierd to say when talking about Attache). Dancing was flawless and vocals were great. In my opinion, you should have won Best Choreography, and seriously should have challenged for Best Vocals (since you won Best Diction & Male Sound). You were standard Attache: flawless and entertaining. I would have put you tied with Burroughs. I love in Hold On/ Clocks the whole sense of building to the powerful ending, something that I havn't seen in any opener since 'Into The Light'. I can't wait until next year's show reveals itself.
Burroughs: The theme was great and the execution was great. Vocals were top-of-the-line and choreography was solid. In the grand scheme of things, I would have you guys winning Best Vocals (despite getting no other vocal captions...hmmmm). However, because one song is basically people sitting and singing while just a couple of people dance and also because Burroughs choreography has always seemed really stiff and non-flowy, I would have had Clinton ahead in choreography. Just an observation and opinion. I would have put you and Attache tied.
North Central: Like I said earlier, the opener through the ballad was great, but it seriously lost steam after that. It was like the climax had been reached way too early in the show and the rest couldn't back it up. Ballad soloist was fantastic. Other than '06, I'm not really a huge fan of North Central's shows, but I don't know why. I would have put you in 3rd.
Waubonsie: Your opener is SOO intense! Congrats on it. It was great. I have never really been a fan of the Polka Number bit. Ballad was great. However, like NC, the show seems to lose a great amount of steam after the ballad. It was hard to outdo yourselves after 'I Want It All Back'. I think that your opener may have set the show's standards too high and it just kind of fell off, but not in a bad way, just not as much intensity. I would have put you in 4th.
From what I've seen on Youtube everyone performed their hearts out. I can't deside if I liked Powerhouse or Attache better though..both have the whole package..I think Powerhouse has the stronger vocals and Clinton has cleaner choreography, but they were pretty even overall.
I just think Burroughs deserved to win based on what i've seen, Purely on the overall performance... The emotion on stage, the theatrical aspect of the opener, the design of the show, the appropriateness of all the choreography/Vocal sound. I've never been more impressed with a choir...
BUT, From a scoresheet point of view, i too would say they are pretty equal. Clinton's choreo is way cleaner, and they know how to make everything just seem Effortless... Their vocals ARE still very good this year, Not like 2004 of 2005, but still good. It IS a clinton show so it's going to score well.
If you gave me the option of watching burroughs show over clinton's i'd pick burroughs 99 times out of 100. One thing that really blew me away was the control vocally... "Inside my heart is breaking, my makeup may be flaking, but still, My smile stays on". I keep watching that phrase (1:47 ish on Haakon's HDvid). it's just absolutely gorgeous... and the individual performances are incredible!
I really think there is something Far more artful about what John Burroughs does compared to any other choir i've seen.
