For anyone who has the technology, I highly recommend downloading the file, syncing it with your Apple TV, and playing it on your new 52" Plasma HDTV.

I just did, and now I want to invite my entire choir over to see it. INCREDIBLE! Häakon, you've outdone yourself (again).

Hey everyone,

I'm really glad to see people are enjoying the HD footage! Once you get a Blu-ray player and an HDTV, you'll never watch standard-def DVDs again... it really makes that big of a difference! I love how even in the wide shots you can still see facial expressions of everyone in the group - it's definitely a different experience.

Oh, and don't even get me started on YouTube...

I will try to answer a few questions that have arisen in the topic...

1) Only one song from each group will be available online; this is not to frustrate you, but rather it is the agreement I made with FAME. They were gracious enough to let a third party come in and shoot the competition, and in order to protect their DVD sales I need to respect those wishes. My main goal was to get such a historical event recorded for history's sake so that we have the best quality version of all of these shows in the archives for the years to come. I am very happy to be able to share parts of it with you, however, and am providing it at no cost. FAME has been very cooperative in helping me to achieve this.

2) To my knowledge, there haven't been any competitions selling Blu-ray discs, though it's entirely possible that now in 2008 someone has. I recorded the first show choir in HD in 2006 (which also happened to be Burroughs), but since there was no way to duplicate on disc at the time, the only way to watch it was to download the files and view them on a computer. Now I have a full production suite with cameras and Blu-ray burning capability and can make Blu-ray discs of this material right at home. I have wanted to film an entire competition in HD and make it available for the public for some time now - SoCal would be my first pick - but it is an expensive, time consuming process, and I don't think enough people have the necessary hardware yet to play the discs at home. My guess is that 5% of the orders would be on Blu-ray and 95% would still be on traditional DVD, thus defeating the purpose. Of course, I already have a Blu-ray disc of all of these groups, but It is my hope that in 2009 enough people will have the players and TVs necessary to make it worthwhile. Until then, people can always download the clips from the internet and watch them on their computers - and all of the FAME clips will be provided on SCC completely for free for you to use. If you like the shows, I know that FAME would love to accommodate your DVD needs.

3) Just so there is no confusion, these clips are clips I personally shot and are *not* representative of the content that is available from FAME's DVD. Their angles/editing/quality will be different and your mileage may vary. Also remember that DVDs are standard definition by their nature, so even if I put these clips on a regular DVD, you'd lose about 6x the quality. You must have a Blu-ray player to watch recorded content in HD.

4) For those of you having difficulties with the whole "X"/renaming thing, I apologize for the confusion! The reason it is necessary is that if I left it as .mov, and people just clicked on the file, the video would attempt to open up in a browser window and not download to your computer. Trust me when I tell you that you don't want to open up a 200MB, 1080p movie in your browser. I am working on an alternate way to deliver the files to you, but in the meantime, these things might help:

If you are on a PC, and don't see the "X" in the filename, it is possible that your file extensions are turned off. When this happens, Windows "hides" the extension (everything after the "." in the filename) and makes it very difficult to rename the file. Here's a great link with step-by-step instructions to turn them back on:

http://www.terryscomputertips.com/computer...-extensions.php

If you are on a Mac, I have heard of a few different scenarios when downloading the clips, but the file will absolutely work for you too. First of all, you need to make sure you are actually saving the clip to your hard drive and not just clicking on it. Since many Mac mice do not have right mouse buttons, this makes things a little more difficult. First of all, make sure you are pressing CONTROL on the keyboard when you click on the file, so that the little menu pops up. From there you can choose to save the file to your desktop... in Safari you can do this by choosing the option that says "Download linked file as..." Once you have the file, you just need to rename it to play it. If the extension says ".movx," just delete the X. If it says ".movx.txt," remove everything so that only ".mov" is showing. Once you have the file downloaded, and renamed to FAMEHD1.mov, it should play just fine.

Hopefully this information helps - again, I am working on solutions to make the process simpler, so if you are having difficulties hang tight! The second clip will be available sometime this evening.

Thanks,

Häakon

I actually would hope it would be Waubonsie Valley's opener... it was the single best song performed at FAME Chicago. When they performed it in the day everyone was blown away. I personally believe it's the best song of 2008, and I think many people who saw it live at FAME would agree.

AGREED!

Yeah how do we go about getting the whole thing in HD? I just spent 40 dollars on a regular DVD I had no idea it was being filmed in HD though... I'de kinda like to see the entire show in HD!

I imagine Clinton's opener is going up tonight? I cant WAIT.

yeah that's what got it to work for me as well. I was freaking out before I did that because I didn't think it would work " border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

Burrough's opener is so so so cool- I can't get over it lol

you know i've checked on quicktime and i've watched it 18 times... isn't that ridiculous.... Well i did the same thing with earth song after we got back from branson in 2005... I think it's just the energy that draws you in. It's very theatrical and the sound is So appropriate. I've never heard a better Unison sound in my life, and i think that's really difficult. The arrangement is AMAZING, the band is rockin (even though i wish it wasn't a keyboard, but a piano. I'm assuming its FAME equiptment?)and the choreography is absolutely incredible. The only thing i can possibly say is that the final chord was slightly unbalanced and out of tune. Lack of support but obviously you were exhausted... anyone would be...lol. It's absolutely amazing, my favorite of all time. I wasn't going to buy the fame DVD after all this stuff happened with the scoring and stuff... but i think i'm going to have to now... UNLESS Haakon is going to keep giving us downloads so that this show and clinton's are up in full lol. Then i won't buy... because there's no way their videos look that good.

Tony, most areas of my life are hypothetically lolable.

Someday, I will come out to California and share it with all of you for a weekend- SoCal 2009 perhaps?- in return, you can share more lolcats... or wait, do they make lolchihuahuas?

Okay, let's say, hypothetically, that you bought a macbook cause it's super cute, only you don't know how to work it all that well, even though you've had it for like ever.... how would you go about downloading the HD file?

Remember, this is entirely hypothetical.

i am lol-ing hypothetically with Ana..
