I guess some of us are just ill-informed. Would anyone like to tell us what really was the hardest competition of all time? Clearly there is a definite answer, and it wasn't in the Midwest, and it wasn't in the last 5 years.

I was just totally thinking the same thing.

North Central from '04 was pretty intense as well. As was Fairfield last year. Granted, not quite the same situation, but a great field of competition nonetheless. Kast year at Fairfield was Clinton, Marysville, Eiesnhower, Hurricane, Findlay, Norwell, Zionsville, Beavercreek, FC. NC had Clinton, Lawrence Central, Zionsville, Laf-Jeff, Huntington North, CR-Jefferson. Not the greatest fields of competition, but still pretty darn good.

So... "Best Of All Time" is an over-statement. I take that back... but I do agree with Ana. It was the most competitive field ever at a competition.

I also feel like it isn't exactly fair for people to disagree when they weren't even there.

Just my two cents.

i may be jumping the gun but after what i saw at the big pow wow at arcadia, go powerhouse! you all have shown great strides from the first appearance this year until last friday. great improvements, and you've only gotten better every week we see you all; it shows great talent and determination. good luck to all the choirs, but dare i say... take it back to the west coast (AGAIN) muahahaaaa, POWERHOUSE!

and to everyone about to witness this incredible match-up:

...get ready for the greatest show on earth!

What do you mean by all time? the last 5 years? haha.

I was just totally thinking the same thing.

Thanks for getting us back on track Orbie! I can't believe how close we are... less than 36 hours until the madness begins!

so i am sitting here in my hotel and i just got back from a faboulous tour of the downtown chicago area. It snowed today... Way exctied cause i have never been in snow before!
haha
but all in all, this competition is definatley going to be on of the most amazing competitions that I have ever performed in and actually seen. I am eay excited to see everyone in action and I can't wait to experience the level of excellency each choir has and have gotten to.
It really has hit me, now that I am in Chicago that the competition is seriously only a day away.
Like I said everything here in Chicago is great and what a better city, then the windy city, to have an ultimate show choir showdown!!!!
Good luck once again, and I will try to keep everyone updated, but like everyone has said,
the art of technology and the use of computers, talking on phones, aim-ing, and text messaging will also do.

Agh, I am loling at this thread.

Onalaska 2004 is NOT a nice memory I hold on to. Ask anyone. " border="0" alt="laugh.gif" /> It's simply one of the most competitive fields I've seen in show choir. That's all!

If the tension is this high today, there are going to be serious riots in Waukegan on Saturday. Yay!

It's funny there were like 300 posts on about how messed up the results were and I am from a group that was affected by it and am calling it the best competition ever. " border="0" alt="blink.gif" />

No one is doubting the strenth of the field, Best of all time is just a really strong statement.

Then what do you feel the best of all time is?

Fame Chicago very well might not be the best competiton ever, but the best is certainly not Onalaska 2004. I also agree with showfilms and haakon, It's probably the best competion in Midwest history...But I wouldn't even put it in the top 3 of all time.

I feel like people are making this sound as THE BEST OF THE CENTURY. Competitions have matched this one before. Look at Fairfield 2007 and Onalaska 2004 they are very similar to this in terms of the top groups as this one. Onalaska had groups like ATSC, Urbandale, Teays Valley, and Lin-Mar NOT make finals (3 of the 4 groups I am almost positive had multiple GC's that year and probably made finals the rest of the season). Then look at Fairfield last year Piqua did not make finals. (They won a few last year too.) This is not the case here. Don't get me wrong it's a great competition but I would never list it as THE BEST. It has and will be trumped. I do wish I could go though. Best of luck to ALL the groups.

Like Haakon said that was an excellent lineup....of Midwest groups. The winner of a comp. like that could definetly call themselves best in the midwest. With this competition having the Powerhouses (no pun) from each region...Fame Chicago DEFINETLY tops any regional competition. It's probably a nice memory you hold on to and im sure that's why you think Onalaska 2004 was the best but it's not even close.

It's really how you compare a competition. I too believe Onalaska 2004 was the best competition of all time. Overall... it was just amazing. FAME Chicago is amazing on its own accord... but doesn't have the long line up of fierce competitors (just four of the best in the country). People had NO clue who would be in finals or not at Onalaska.

I guess... they really aren't comparable.

I think that the thing about Onalaska 2004 was out of the 20 some groups i would say almost all of them made finals consistantly. I think it is still the best. People base FAME Chicago off of 3 groups. There are about 5 or 6 that are really good but lets look at the entire picture. Onalaska is the grandaddy of them all.

I mean look at the line-up... It was a once in a decade thing. (This is Ana's info from another topic)

1. Mt. Zion (with best choreography)
2. GCS (with best band)
3. EEE (with best vocals)
4. Totino-Grace
5. Franklin Central
6. Buffalo Grove
--
7. Urbandale
8. Teays Valley
9. Omaha Westside
10. Fort Atkinson
11. Mitchell
12. Sauk Prairie
13. Waconia
14. Crete-Monee
15. Bemidji
16. Iowa City West
17. Wheaton Warrenville
18. Milton
19. Altoona
20. Brodhead
21. Urbandale "Vitality"
22. Linn-Mar
23. La Crosse Logan
24. Parkview
25. Washburn
26. Hudson
27. Neenah
28. DePere

I'm currently sitting on a runway at LAX, posting from my iPhone... flights are delayed due to snow in Chicago! Looks like we're going to get the full experience. :-P

I guess that's as good as it gets when it comes to "Welcome to the Midwest" ;)
