YAY Hartbreakers!!! i love you girls! as to being adjudicated at your own competition, at encore, hart's groups get a tape from one or a few of the judges, but they don't score us. their comments really do help, but i think that when the host school gets scored against everyone who competed, it kinda takes away from the feeling of accomplishment the people who competed get, esp. when the hosts would have won the comp! anyway, that's my say!
Hart- you guys were awesome!!..shadowland that song was really good
good job!
Diamond Bar- so sad i wanted to see u guys!!
La mesa- eh what was with the clapping?..watch out for those hanging mics! lol!!
Chula- I Liked the all u wanted song..i love it when u guys go into acapella and keep the beat it sounds so cool!
Esperanza...interessting show i like the dresses
I've noticed this year that all the advanced girls groups all have about 25-30 girls except for hart and los alamitos also i noticed that the vocals weren't that strong coming from the groups with not a lot of people.
but hey it was a good show and I"m glad i got to see the performances and Bonita Vista you guys have a good show too u probably would have placed!.. well all i can say is 2 weeks and los alamitos soundtrax will be blowing u away!
No, it's actually really good. That way the group can assess how their competition is doing, and if a group scores higher than the hosts, that gives them a heads up to rehearse more. That way, the choir knows what they have to tweak in order to be competitive.
Dear padawan...
When a school hosts a competition:
1) They are not in a competitive state of mind. Because of this their show is diiferent and not as intense
2) Because your director hired the judges, they can not give you a fair assessment. They might as well given you all perfect scores. It doesn't work that way!
3) I believe you are the only choir that does this. Brea doesn't even do their whole set at theirs, let alone asked to be adjudicated!
This may not sink into your skull, but you need to understand that host schools can not get fair and biased scores from the judges!
They can get comments to help. That is what the other schools do.
OUT!
First off, yes, we do that because this is THE FIRST ladies competition of the year. It's the policy of our school to strive to do the best, and not to stop looking for improvement, because there ALWAYS is improvement. The judges are not biased at all, in fact, Ron Bolles, one of the adjudicators and Bonita's former director scored us the lowest because he has higher expectations for us than any of the other judges in the circuit. The choreography judge was at fantasy and already saw our set, so he already knew the flaws, and knew what to look out for with us. As for the lady judge doing vocals, don't even know her. But once again, they're not biased.
And who says we're in a competitive state of mind? Many of the students are looking for ways that they can personally improve to make the group that much more better and that much more of an ensemble.
And no, other schools perform their whole set for judges at the competitions they host (e.g. Chula @ Socal, both Bonita choirs at their respective competitions, Diamond Bar @ the Diamond Bar comp, Burroughs @ the Burroughs comp, Hart @ the Hart comp....Brea is one of the few choirs that don't perform their whole set)
...and don't patronize me by calling me "padawan." Thanks
OH! Oh! I just remembered Burbank!! *laughs* Oh, girls, I love your first costume. Gah! The whole time you were performing, I was sitting in the back telling Wes how GREAT you choreo looked with those black dresses. The simple choreo really fit the song which was... Material Girl? Gah! I really don't remember. So sorry. Of course I loved the blue dresses because they were my fave dresses last year. Heh. Good job.
Thanx, Carlee. Hee. I had fun running aroung trying to get it up!
I had fun last night. Overall, I thought all the groups performed well, but still need polishing, as it IS the first competition.
I honestly thought Diamond Bar was going to win. Their show was entertaining, vocals were solid, and they had the choreography down. Good job girls, keep it up!
Hart was also very good. Shadowlands is a great song and you girls pulled it off. I REALLY liked the acapella, there were a couple missed notes here and there, but it was still great. The closser was great too, the costumes were perfect. Overall, very good performance. Congrats on a clean sweep, well sort of .
La Mesa, in my opinion, was much better last year. They still have the solid vocals and clean, sharp choreography, but their show made no impact on me. I agree with Lauren, the clapping song got a tad bit boring. As always, you performed wonderfully and will continue to do so.
I don't really remember Burbank's show but I know I liked it. The black dresses looked so good onstage, as did the blue/white dresses. Congrats!

OMG!! I though Diamond Bar was going to win without a doubt! They had me on the edge of my seat and everything. LoL. They sang "America," which was the song I sang for one of my solo acts earlier this year. Gah! Congrats on placing girls but you're first in my book.
Hart, you girls are very dedication and congratulations... Very... interesting cheer at the end. LoL. Hope that I will be able to meet some of you guys in the future.
I actually saw that La Mesa had left at least one step stand on stage. When Brea went up, you saw a little Mrs. Ronacher run on stage and get the step stand and run back off. *laughs* They left on another step stand opposite of that one and several tambourines in the back as well. The step stands were moved before the show but the tambourines were left there. *sigh* La Mesa was good but I can't say I cared to much for their minute long clapping sesh accompanied only by "woo"s.

That way, the choir knows what they have to tweak in order to be competitive. I personally thought that Burbank, the group I helped host, had an amazing sound--really mature and blended. Hearing them is going to make Sound Unlimited want to work harder at vocals so they can sing as maturely. btw-Burbank's new director is a funny guy, amazing at piano too. Good for them that they've found someone who's got the talent to take their groups far.

If Sound was actually competing in the mixed division, and there were no such things as "point deductions for leaving props on the stage" the results would have been:
1. Sound Unlimited
2. La Mesa
3. Hart
4. Diamond Bar
5. Esperanza
Interesting to ponder eh?
Having judges adjudicate the host group at their own competition is rather pointless! Comments only would be more fair assessment...
Yeah, good job to everyone. La Mesa got first...and I'm sure that isn't the first time they've beaten several top notch advanced girls groups. I heard they left two step stands on the stage or something. Anyway, Tear Them Down was by far their best number....but I don't think they deserved music at all, especially with Burbank, they had the best sound by far. But nonetheless congrats to Hart, DB, and Esperanza.

I believe that they left a prop on stage... and it was found AFTER Brea Girls were done! A whole group after them!
If that is true... Then take 20 minutes and deduct 1% per every 15 seconds from their score, therefore taking their score to the negative intergers and that is why the little girls unfortunately had their sweep taken away from them...
A very hard lesson to ingest... " border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />
