It will be interesting to see what group Troy copies this year. They always seem to copy show themes and costumes from other groups. Who knows maybe they will surprise everyone with an original show.
Bitter much? LOL but I see where you might think that. I tend to agree with another post on here that in many ways there are few TRULY "NEW" concepts in show choir. Its all how you restage, reinvent, re costume, re-orchestrate, etc etc. Heck even Sullivan used the same backdrop painted different colors for about 20 years in a row, or so it seemed LOL, and then after John Burroughs used video screens as backdrops low and behold Sullivan did the following year. Though I give Mr Mullenkamp great credit for doing amazing things with such a tiny little program and for (in general) being a very creative group, they too "steal"/"borrow" many ideas and concepts. Just becasue they may not lift from another show choir doesnt mean that it's any more accetable or ethical. It simply means Mr Mullenkamp is smart enough to steal from Broadway, Vegas, and other professional venues so as to look like he has created something new in the show choir world. Smart man yes. Any different than Troy? Not really.
oh god.......the "old manteno"........
Someone seriously needs to put up some new stuff of theirs on youtube, because all that comes up in a search is that Pirate show....
this year's show is COMPLETELY different....thank goodness
Well, maybe an alum of Manteno could put some of their other shows up!
Bloody Bess......what a different show than they now have....I guess it was entertaining, but I prefer the style they have now....I need to put up some new videos on YouTube...
I'd love to have someone that sits in all day and watches every group and gives their opinion...not just their favorite groups, because that seems to be the census on this thing.
I am soooo the person that sits in there ALL day.....haha...I know sad....I eat during the breaks...always telling family and friends to go back in to watch everyone.
I also wish that directors would encourage (or require) their students to be in the gym watching (and applauding hehe) when they aren't getting ready/performing/eating....
Just think it would be nice for everyone at the competition as well as being good sportsmen and being supportive of one another!
my predictions for finals(no order):
wheaton
troy
eee
onalaska
sullivan
i have seen twinsburg on many other lists but i personally havent seen them in competition im excited to see what they can do

just wondering where your from becuase i know certain groups that seem to have a problem with troy becuase they have done the same songs at the same competitions
What also gets me...is that there could be amazingly awesome groups during the day, and just because of their name or their time of performance, no one wants to go see them. I'd love to have someone that sits in all day and watches every group and gives their opinion...not just their favorite groups, because that seems to be the census on this thing. Of course we never get to hear what the judges think of every group at a competition, but seriously, I think a lot of how a group is judged is based purely on performance time, past history, and how much applause the audience is giving them. I'm not saying this is all they are judged on, BUT I do feel that judges look at things like this, along with the name. It sucks, but in all reality, it's true.
Don't feel too badly.....seriously, I have never understood why just because a group has made finals for many years previous, that we suddenly feel like they somehow deserve to be in finals this year. EVERY group should have to prove themselves EVERY year. For example, let's take Manteno Magic..... They have NEVER made finals in the past at Mt. Zion, and I agree with those results.... However, let's say they are great this year, should they not make finals? Who knows, depends on the competition they are up against. Or Onalaska, haven't seen them yet, but if they just don't cut it then they shouldn't make finals, but if they are great, then yes definitely if they are in the top six choirs.
Most of us haven't seen any choirs yet, so yes predicting can be fun, but most definitely not "all knowing" because we are only basing them on past results. Every year is a new and unique experience and I can't wait to see how it turns out.
Who knows, maybe Milton Choralation, or Pekin Noteables are going to blow us away this year! Would be awesome to see!
I totally and completely agree with you. Why is it that everyone just ASSUMES that certain groups are going to make finals? I'd say sit back, watch all the shows and let the judges decide, and you people who are going, decide for yourselves. Everyone's opinion is different, and just because a group has a good name, doesn't mean they're always going to do well...I.E. Buffalo Grove @ Onalaska...who didn't even make finals and won grand champs last year...

Not sure if this is completely true, because I have only seen them a few times. However, I have to say that a LOT of shows are very similar, there is really is a small and diminishing selection of REALLY REALLY good music for show choir. Yes, there is a lot of music out there, but most of this is mediocre. And although I do LOVE a great "show" especially one that is cutting edge, ultimately this is up to the director to make up, and not a true reflection of how a group really works and performs. It is about singing, dancing, and putting on a great show, not how original the show is (unless of course there a place on the score sheet for this factor).
Everyone in show choir (well, most haha) works very hard to put on the best show possible, and some don't have the means to buy $2000 dresses or a $30k backdrop, so they work their butts off to dance and sing as best as possible, and I applaud everyone out there that is in this great field!
Okay, are you like WITH Manteno? Or just their biggest fan EVER? " border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />
I don't think Aaron feels BAD that he didn't put Ona in finals, I think he just recognizes that they are ALWAYS in finals at Mt. Zion- even when they haven't seemed to be deserving of it, and it seems weird to say they won't end up there.
Haha, I saw their show and think it is a very good show, but I was just using them as an example.
And I agree, it would definitely be weird for a group that has won Mt. Zion many many times to not even make finals. Also, once again, just using them as an example for an idea that many of us forget sometimes: there are a lot of great groups out there besides Mt. Zion, Clinton, and Onalaska..... for example some up and coming groups like (and ones that have been around for a while) Troy, Twinsburg, WV, etc.
Once again, didn't mean to upset anyone by my comments, just looking for a great REAL competition without the politics (yea right haha) and just plain good singing and dancing

Agreed. Kind of like Buffalo Grove at Onalaska.

I really think that the top 3 are going to be Eisenhower, Wheaton Warrenville, and Waubonsie Valley. I'm a big Sullivan fan, but two of those three groups have a competition under their belts- and they were both MORE than ready last weekend. I also think this panel of judges will appreciate how these groups sing stylistically, and their level of dancing.
Once again... I also agree. But, I do think people will be surprised to see how Twinsburg places. I have heard amazing things about them... and they very well could place in the top three. Same with Waubonsie... I hear their show is even better than last year.

Haven't seen TROY this year and lord knows I do always love Sullivans SHOW aspect, but Troy will sing circles around Sullivan IMO so I have a feeling Troy will place above Sullivan. Ona, much like Buffalo Grove could be the guy left in the 7th spot...who knows!!!?? It will be exciting none the less.
it seems like a sin to predict against Onalaska making finals

it seems like a sin to predict against Onalaska making finals, but seeing as Buffalo Grove was excluded from evening competition at Onalaska, i'll believe early reports and put them just outside of the fray. here are my thoughts on what could happen.
