You guys know that show choir coma?
the haze you get?
like an hour or two after your show?
when you left your home at 3 in the morning for a 4 hour bus ride, and performed 3 or so hours later?
well, i was in that coma, and i can't remember this one groups name. i feel completley awful, but i was strung out man.all i remember is i was sitting with hastings friends i had made that day :>(mary ranweiller! i hope i didn't butcher your name) and we watched this group, and there soloist, literally made me fall in love. hHh.

i was like floating.

they wore red velvet dresses, with wicked high heels, and the boys wore purple velvet suits...
OH PROPS, to the girl who's shoe flew off into the crowd, you ahndled it great and with alotta grace. MAD PROPS GIRRRRL.

MY THOUGHTS ON ONALASKA!
TG- fifteen foot tall puppets, woah man. and all those tambourines. MAJOR props to stagecrew ;>
HASTINGS!- way to go kidds. :> terra YOU ROCKED IT OUT GIRRRRL!
MTZ- seriously, how do you work the name into those songs? and p.s. if you come to waconia (which i'm pretty sure i read that you are) you should incorperate cece in there! :>

i was in total haze the rest of the day.

Does anyone know where Mt.Zion will be performing/competing again? I loved their show and i REALLY want to watch it again, but i don't know if there's anywhere we will be running into them again. Great job (especially on the novelty number) BTW, and i really loved your soloist on that number as well. How do you guys work in different names for that song? It must be very difficult! Kudos!

Waconia, very solid start to your season against one of the best line-ups anybody will EVER see! Work like crazy to make this season one to remember! Also to Altoona, keep working your character stuff, clean even the smallest details and come out firing at New London. God Bless, Damon

Thanks Damon!! You Rock!!

ONALASKA WAS THE BOMB!
truly one of the best/hardest competitions in at least the Midwest.
Riverside was so honored AND stoked about just making finals but to get 3rd r. u. was just incredible... I've heard Mt. Zion has a tradition of doing extremely well at this comp. so I was surprised they only got 2nd r. u. Wheaton Warrenville is SOOOOO INCREDIBLE and truly deserved what they got out of this competition...I only got to see a little of their warm up though not their performance because they were RIGHT after us.

just in case you didn't know the results:

5th- S.C. "Headliners"
4th- ATSC
3rd- HHS "Riverside Company"
2nd- Mt. Zion "Swingsation"
1st- Eisenhower "?"
GRAND CHAMP- Wheaton Warrenville "?"

Can someone let me know who did the video for this competition and if they have a website? I want to try to order a dvd because it sounds like this was quite the competition!

http://www.ohspsg.com should have a link-- Our Parents do an excellent job of maintaining the website.

If not, Comprehensive Sound Services did the video, but the website isn't current yet... it still has last year's Classic on there.

P.S.--
Congrats to all the groups! I had the pleasure of working the Warm-up Room, so I got to see first-hand what makes each show choir such a tight-knit, happy family (most of the time " border="0" alt="laugh.gif" /> ). You all should be proud of how you performed Saturday!

My SCA campees-- It was awesome to see yall again!!! I had best see yall this June!

Hey Adam-- what happened to the promised shameless plug for yours truley, eh?

That was 2005. They got to choose between singing in Spanish or Chinese, later it was dance break or 8 part harmony, and there were some other things that the audience got to choose. It has been done before, I don't think it got that deep into the Midwest though.

"Everything old is new again." (Thank you, Peter Allen)
Lafayette Jefferson First Edition 1988, under founding director Kevin Butler. Opening number: "There You Are" from The Mystery of Edwin Drood." Soloists in the house, interacting with audience members.

I know one of Damon's groups (Winfield maybe?) did a novelty a couple of years back where they would stop at certain points in the song and let the audience vote on what would happen next.

MTZ- Wow you guys are entertaining! I think you just brought something new to show choir with that crowd interaction.

i was confused as to why i hadn't heard much of the choir before... what a joy it is for a newer group to be finding success at one of the most recognized invitationals.

why haven't we heard much from them before? probably the same reason marysville or waubonsie valley or several other groups are just now becoming nationally relevant -- those groups are now directed by guys that are: 1) alumni of successful high school programs, 2) have been at SCA in one form or another for the last ten years or so (which means around dwight/april/linda/et al as peers, just soaking in all the show choir greatness) and 3) it just takes time to get a program headed in the right direction.

just a slight aside: i was watching yesterday at marysville's competition (albeit from the worst angle possible, running thru emcee cue cards offstage left) and the group from olentangy went into finals in first place, detracting from the general notion that fairfield would run away with it. fairfield did end up winning, but olentangy's success pretty much sums up my point: olentangy didn't have folks any more talented than any of their previous years, but now their director "gets" it. he got andy haines to choreograph for them and their kids are now understanding what it takes to be a good show choir.

most choir directors out there are more or less on the same level technically speaking and could teach an eric whitacre piece and get it to sound decent. the difference between a good and a great show choir is if whoever's in charge understands show design / choreo / arrangements / execution - the whole ball of wax.

(edited for typos)

i'm very glad to log on and find these results. as Yuri mentioned earlier, after Wheaton-Warrenville performed at Marysville last year, i was confused as to why i hadn't heard much of the choir before. and judging by the amount of praise they're receiving on this topic, it seems they have only improved. what a joy it is for a newer group to be finding success at one of the most recognized invitationals.

First, yes, everyone is okay- someone took an extra riser to the head, but he is completely fine (though probably a little sore). Thanks for the concern.

Just wanted to let everyone know that I am ok. I saw the doctor and everything seems fine, just a pounding headeache. Thanks to all who were concerned.
