Hey, um, Adam... how can I switch to Alumni?
I'm not Adam, but... post in one of the topics (I think there's one in Show Choir Discussion under the Community Forums) about that very subject, and one of the Crew can change your status.
This just in!!! Onalaska WILL be attending!!!
WOW...
haha... I'm such a funny boy....
But for serious...
Disappear from SCC for just like, 3 months and look what happens to your old competition!
This is gonna be soooo much fun to just watch this year!
Hey, um, Adam... how can I switch to Alumni?
...and does anyone else have troubles staying logged in? hrm...
i didn't think anyone was arguing, i just thought it was relevant information. and, of course, i like to bolster the validity of my beyond early predictions.
Aaron, I don't think anyone is arguing with you on Wheaton-Warrenville- in fact, they've been in almost all, if not all, of the predictions to this point. I was simply telling Adam they've been competing early for more than two years (which as it turns out, he recalled on his own).
I hope we get our schedules soon- I'm sure there are already a few floating around to a select few- which means it can only be a matter of time for the rest of us!!!
then the ballad was a new Pete Eklund arr (you can always recognize an Eklund arr. if all the voices go into an pure unison at some point - as opposed to octave unison).
while this is something that doesn't really need to be argued you definitely are wrong about that. I am in Pete's top choir and he arranges music for our choir and for all of our combined choir concerts... not once have i ever heard an arrangement of his where the choir went into perfect unison.
anyways.... i'm just saying that i don't believe Johnston has had enough consistent success to be for sure considered a finalist, especially with a new director. and the point that the song was from 2001 is actually making my point. it is a song that was done while Johnston was still one of the top groups in Iowa, and also it is one of the songs that any choir could do and have a successful year with. Too Darn Hot is just one of those songs that always boosts scores.
Whatever. I'm not saying that there is no way Johnston will make finals. I was just stating my thoughts, which I believe are grounded in at least some fact. its not like i just pulled that out of the air.
Predictions for the first competition of the season are like preseason polls in college football . With that said I still can't believe how many elite groups are going to be attending Onalaska. Just making finals here would be like winning a GC at an average competition.
First, Wheaton Warrenville has competed early for more than a couple of years- they were at Onalaska in 2004 (they got 17th- well, the scoresheets we got had them in 17th... who really knows what place they got?). Not sure about the years before then. At any rate, I'm excited to see them at Ona after the great things I've heard in the past year- hopefully the performance schedule will allow it.
Speaking of, we should be getting a schedule soon- we were told we'd get everything in November, so I'm guessing it's all on the way.
We have a list of judges somewhere- I'll have to dig it up.
Personally, I am terrified and ecstatic to be going back to The Classic- especially in this field of competitors. From looking at the list, there's at least 15 groups I'd predict for finals in any decent competition. In this competition, that's scary- and it means that the top 6 could potentially be made up entirely of groups that have not yet been predicted in finals.
last year Wheaton-Warrenville started their competition season at the Marysville "Showcase." Marysville's competition doesn't have quite the national spotlight that the history of Onalaska's competition has gained (hopefully that will change ), but last year's "Showcase" was very competitive. Wheaton-Warrenville placed First Runner-Up behind Fairfield, and then went on to become the only choir to beat Carmel last season.
they started strong and only got better. that's why i predicted them to take Grand Champion or First Runner-Up and that's why i think they are an emerging powerhouse.
Looking here I see the predictions all over the board. I don't know if anyone has had the same answers. and if they do it's one or two people. I think that there are so many good groups. Every year the competitions just keep getting harder and harder. Even if your vocals and dancing are perfect, you're not guaranteed GC. There are always gonna be judges that think that there is a group that is better than you. I'm so scared yet excited for this competition. Predictions are just that predictions, people's guesses. I look at the predictions and they make me wanna work that much harder at practice tonight. I can't wait to see all the cool shows at this comp. I'm psyched!!!!!!

I think when you consider how many very competitive groups going to Onalaska have not even been MENTIONED in the finals predictions to this point (Sioux City East, Hastings, Sauk, etc.), you'd realize that any group being brought up at all is receiving plenty of love.
I agree
this competition is way to early to even make a prediction. All I know is that this will be a great competition to just sit back and relax (for me at least) and watch some show choirs that do amazing things each and every year.
