Ok then...

How do you win Best Choreography and get 3rd Runner Up? (Troy at Great River)

Very true. Someone posted that it's like the BCS rankings. Highly controversial, but you have to live with the system. That just about sums it up!

For all the disputes and questions about "How did so-and-so get best vocals and 3RU?" and etc., here is your answer.

Along with scores, people can't forget that judges also place the schools. Those placings factor in greatly.

From what I overheard, placings were all over at Chicagoland this year. There was even a story saying that Troy was placed last by one judge in finals. These placements may have had effects on some of the surprises this year.

Just remember:

Judges' placement system is to Show Choir as The BCS Selection System is to College Football. It's highly controversial, but you have to live with the system...

Also, I had a great time at this competition! Congrats to Troy, your show was unique and very energetic! Congrats to all that made finals. (On a side note, go NOVA! I love your show and music! Queen kicks butt!)

is show choir

K-duds..... " border="0" alt="ermm.gif" />

I thought I taught you better. It's show choir. one word. I guess I'll have to give you the speech tomorrow. (again). " border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

I thought it was very close (it was), and any of the captions and placing could have gone any direction... lol Can't we all just get along!? Let's all just appreciate the differences that each show choir has, and stop "expecting" anything from anyone!

Anyone for a round of Kumbaya? ;)

the entire show is supposed to be #1, if vocals were #1 it would have been a choir competition

sorry if that sounds rude, but it is show choir

i was always told it was show choir

i guess it depends on your director

dont get me wrong, i think to the untrianed eye the shows were amazing, i loved the costumes and choreography but......vocals are supposed to be #1....i definately dont think they were considered to the degree they are supposed to be.

Like the winning choir getting no captions.
Just because your the grand champion would no entitle you to have the best everything, you have a complete solid show.
Just because you have best choreography you can lack majorly in vocals
you can have the best vocals and lack in the difficulty of the choreography or how clean it is.

I don't think to win a caption automically puts you in running for grand champion or 1st RU.

As a member of express we were happy with our placings at every competition. Our goal is to go out and do the best we can and win the crowd over and have fun all at the same time. Is it fun to win??yes of course but we have a ball just performing out there on the stage because you dont get to do it for very long....so instead of all this arguing lets just enjoy what we have whilewe have it! Cant wait til orlando! good luck to all for the rest of the year!

I personally feel that Petal was placed low. How do you get best vocals and 3rd runner up?? I thought their show was great and very clean. I did love Troy's show. It was so entertaining and fun. The music was very upbeat and the costumes were great. All their soloists were good and it looked like they had a blast performing. I don't know what you meant about "expecting more" from them. Anyway...I thought all the groups did an outstanding job and I wouldn't have wanted the burden of judging at that competition! Congrats to all choirs.

i personally wasnt impressed with some of the groups. I exspected more out of troy and Onalaska, their reputation definately helped them out. I thought Prospect did very well. I dunno, vocally i exspected much more from some of the groups in finals. Wheaton had amazing vocals and they placed last in vocals.

dont get me wrong, i think to the untrianed eye the shows were amazing, i loved the costumes and choreography but......vocals are supposed to be #1....i definately dont think they were considered to the degree they are supposed to be.

.......and placings were interesting is seemed it went from who went first in the day to who went last.....if u went first u got last, if u went second you got second to last...if u went last u probably made it in to finals

it was an interesting competition to say in the least.

i mean washington going from like 5th to 2nd, is all one judge from what i heard. but anyway it is in the books and nothing can be done but speculate about the verdict.

whatever. this is going to be fairly brief. Momentum did not go from 6th to 2nd because of one judge, because Heath Weber also had them in first after day round. David Legg moved Washington up two spots. Melissa Stainbrook had Momentum 22.5 and 23 points behind Troy and Linn-Mar in prelims, but lessened that to 2.5 and 6.5 in finals. Then they also had two nice placings from Tara Tober and Jarad Voss. Vocally, Troy got 4, 5, 5, 5, 6 placings from judges. Ultimately that is what killed them. Kennedy, Washington, and Linn-Mar came too close in the choreography scores to lose to Troy.
