MY PREDICTIONS based on the show i saw FC perform tonight at their preview...
GC: Franklin Central (Vocals, Band)
1RU: Fairfield (choreo)
2RU: Marysville
3RU: Twinsburg
4RU: West Clermont
5RU: Catholic
I also just wanted to say that i think it's kind of crazy to say " franklin central is difficult to place in the midst of ohio's best" when last year FC Swept captions from a group that had been called "ohio's best" for a good few years.. (teays valley) Call me crazy, Granted last year was a less than stellar year for both Franklin Central and Teays. (though if i remember right... Teays STILL never lost to Fairfield last year) not trying to start an argument or anything, it's just that when i think of Ohio groups that i personally would be scared to compete against only 3 names come to mind Marysville, Fairfield, and Teays valley. When i think of indiana groups that i'd be scared of... i think of 5 groups that potentially could win at any contest. Center Grove, Huntington North, Lafeyette Jefferson, North Central, Franklin Central, (Dekalb maybe) theres 6 groups right there that i'd consider a contender for 1st place at any contest, that is if they weren't competing against eachother, then most of us know exactly what would happen... so you understand my confusion when you "ohio's best" like ohio is the show choir motherland. I'd definately consider Indiana or Iowa that before ohio. but anyway... those are my thoughts on that matter. I'm sorry if i'm too abrupt in stating my opinions for some people. They honestly are never meant as put downs or insults... GOOD LUCK EVERYONE!!!!
i've waited to reply to this because i wasn't sure which direction to go with my response. certainly it would be easy for me to turn this around on show choirnerd88, but i hold stong belief that his posts speak for themselves, and nothing i could type here would better illustrate the flaws which are already apparent only by reading them.
instead, i reply only to insure that i'm not misunderstood or further demonized. in posting my predictions, or rather, agreement to someone else's predictions along with commentary, i had no subversive aims. instead, i was offering my viewpoint on a competition based on my experience with the competing groups and judging process - not a rare occurence on these forums. that show choirnerd88 chose to assume a number of incorrect things about my post is, in my opinion, no one's fault but his own, as i am confident that my post gives no credence to his assumptions unless viewed from an already biased perspective.
in writing that Franklin Central was difficult to place among Ohio's best, i was neither suggesting that Ohio is the "show choir motherland" or offering much of a critique on their program (besides implying that they'll probably be placed in the top three of four by agreeing with the other set of predictions), all that was meant was an acknowlegement that it is sometimes difficult to predict a group's placement when they are competing out of state or area - another commonplace occurence. never for a second was i writing, or coming close to meaning to write, that Ohio show choir is much better than any other state's incarnation. i would hope my posting history on these forums would indicate no less, and that if i ever were to make such broad, easily-defeated statements, i would offer also some reason behind my thinking.

Huntington North is probably my best example of that... They are Perfect vocally, they move effortlessly, and their band is always awesome. Yet, when i watch them i seem to be waiting for them to move to the next song because i'm tired of the one they're singing... i don't know.
Does anyone understand me?
I agree and disagree with this statement... I absolutely LOVE Huntington North ... BUT some songs it's like huh? But I absolutely LOVE Jason Johnson's choreography, John Wenning's direction/show design is absolutely a-freakin-mazing.

Umm you weren't impressed by twinsburg's 03 season? If you weren't even REMOTELY impressed that year I urge you to rethink about it " border="0" alt="shifty.gif" /> " border="0" alt="thumbsup.gif" />
ok i guess you could say i was a little impressed but it was like impressed at the level of their performance... "oh wow you guys are really moving well with eachother this year, Your vocals are solid, the band is good, choreo is clean, show is well thought out..." not like North Central or other indy choirs, or fairfield, or teays who i always see and think "Wooohoo!!! another Awesome show!!!" If you bring me to my feet with your ballad, then i'm impressed... I guess just being Excellent doesn't impress me that much. Huntington North is probably my best example of that... They are Perfect vocally, they move effortlessly, and their band is always awesome. Yet, when i watch them i seem to be waiting for them to move to the next song because i'm tired of the one they're singing... i don't know.

Really, it is all a matter of taste..Ohio for the most part is not known for super difficult choreography, but raher focusing on vocals..as it shows in most judgeing sheets, pretty much in Ohio, if you take best vocals..you pretty much won the competition (of course this isnt always true..just a general statement) but over in Indy, Ill, and im not sure about Iowa or not, but choreography is a lot bigger over there, and is closer to being equal to vocals than in Ohio...I myself prefer Indy and Ill groups over Ohio groups because I love the choreography and the way they run the shows, but I also know many people who will watch an Ohio group with huge vocals and almost no choreography over groups like Eisenhower, Mt Zion or other large choreo groups. So to one person, Ohio is the best and always will be, and to others, because of the taste that they have, they will choose another state.
That is all!
I completely utterly 100 percent agree with you. The show styles between the Indy/illi choirs and the Ohio groups is definately
a big deal... Being a vocalist and not a dancer myself, i prefer to watch groups that are very heavily vocal rather than choreo... But i guess my only point is that if you look at sheer number of choirs that contend for GC at most contests... indiana i think comes out ahead of ohio. Honestly though, and jeff Clark has heard me say it numerous times, Last year and the year before that, Fairfield put out 2 of the most interesting, polished, and well performed shows i've seen over the past 5 or 6 years... but again, if i take my favorite ohio group (fairfield) and my favorite Indy group (North Central) i'm 90 percent sure NC would win about 4 out of 5 times

If you don't mind me asking why wouldn't you also consider Twinsburg and Findlay as groups that you would be scared to compete against in Ohio?
No... i don't really... i've seen these groups numerous times over the years and not once have i really been impressed by a show that they've put on... Yes they're excellent choirs...

Teays lost to Fairfield at both Danville and Findlay. Fairfield and Center Grove were the only ones that beat them that year.
I'm sorry i got that wrong... i was pretty sure that When i was talking to Jeff Clark on AIM before wapokoneta he told me that teays had been one step ahead the whole season... i don't know... Anyway

i just realized that i sounded like a jerk there and wanted to apologize... But i mean... i still think those things are true... i just could have been nicer... sorry Shoegazer... no harm meant
i most agree with this set of predictions. i think this is the most probable set of finalists and placements seem reasonable, although i can see the possibility of Lehman Catholic and West Clermont flipping, and Franklin Central is difficult to place in the midst of some of Ohio's best. but those kind of surprises are exactly what has me excited to (hopefully) be there to watch and cheer on my favorite groups.
an early good luck to Marysville, Fairfield and Twinsburg, and a special well-wishing to Amber, Zach, Aashley, Grace, Nick, Hannah, Kay, Kelsey and Gwen in particular. rock the house, kiddos!
