Okay so here's the deal. This competition is a lot smaller this year because we had to move it back a weekend due to a conflict with our gym. So we lose all the Iowa choirs due to the Big Dance. Which is sad, because they're always a lot of fun. We're not doing the concert choir competition for the same reason, just not enough groups. Yes, we do have finals. I hope everyone's looking forward to this competition, because I know we are. Good luck and see you all Saturday!
I'm curious about this competition. Aside from Johnston, I don't really know anything about any of these choirs. I'm familiar with Prospect's tradition, but this is their first outing of the year, so who knows what they'll be like. Has anyone seen or competed against any of the others? Is there any one group to beat?
I'd say this competition is wide open.
I'm actually thinking/hoping Johnston will take the win. They were Grand Champions of "Showcase" in 1999, and 1st Runner Up in 2000. Let's bring back the GC trophy for 2007!
I think Wheeling will be the "surprise" group to finals. They just placed 2nd Runner Up at Dekalb's competiton behind Buffalo Grove and Findlay. Sounds like they are pretty good!

well don't you just think you're funny! haha
yeah... i guess you kinda can be. lol
on a more serious note though, i think the results of this competition will be interesting because so many of the groups do have the potential to make finals. I might just decide to go yet. haha
I was being serious and funny at the same time. I agree, I think everyone and anyone could potentially make finals.

Despite a small competition, this looks like it'll be a fun one. It'll be interesting to see what Prospect is doing this year.
The official schedule that I got a copy of says so - 5pm is the afternoon awards for Participation plaques, best female / male soloists, solo comp winners (2), band, and crew awards. Then they'll announce prep division placements, and announce the 6 finalists for the evening round - which I would have to guess start at 6:30pm or so (they don't say on the sheet).
A smaller contest I guess, but it looks to be a good day! And I'm excited to follow Innovation for another weekend!
okay, thanks. I suppose that would make sense that the Iowa groups aren't going back again for that reason. I think that same thing happened two years ago when the concert choir competition started and there weren't enough groups signed up, so it was cancelled. Or maybe I'm just imagining this! haha
Well Danyel, we heard last week(maybe the week before) that the concert choir competition has been cancelled due to a lack of interest. I cant remember exactly, but I think last year there were only 5 concert choirs competing, and several of those groups were from Iowa & arent coming to fort this year due to the date change. As far as we heard there were only 2 schools that were registered to compete, and Mr. Engstom didnt think it was worth it.
yeah, I was kind of assuming that was the reason for a few groups not returning. Although, Great River is a very good competition also... ahh, good memories there freshman year...
Back on topic... Molly (or anyone, for that matter) do you happen to have a schedule for the concert choir competition too??

That's exactly what i was thinking. how sad, seeing as it's such a good competition.
I think moving their competition to February 17th kind of hurt them. Davenport West and Central both have to host "Great River" that weekend. Cedar Rapids Jefferson and Linn Mar (both past competitors at Fort) are both coming to "Great River", so that's four groups.
