I spoke with a few directors after the awards ceremony, as they were all looking at their finals scoresheets.
It was at that point, the discovery was made: South Jones had higher scores in both choreography and band (I know that they had the highest overall scores in these categories, but I believe they also had the highest score in these categories with each individual judge).
So, either:
there was a mix-up and someone wrote down the wrong school's names for the caption awards for "Best Band" and "Best Choreography", or
Picayune competition officials (or possibly even judges) chose to give out these captions based on something other than the scores. What else it could be based on, I do not know.
Oh, and for the record:
West Jones "Imagination" did fantastic! By far the most entertaining group that I saw in finals. Though it'll be difficult, you can definitely look for them to make a run into finals at Homewood next week.
Good job, West Jones! edit: grammar...as usual.
Thanks!!! Unfortunately, we won't be attending Homewood next week. We are taking a week off. I heard that the Picayune kids got to pick the caption awards and it wasn't based on score!!
How did you find this out, because all the spectators in the auditorium were in total shock at the out come of all the caption awards if this is correct that would make it better.
I told him. lol
Now to explain, and maybe clarify this.

Wow... it seems like no one wants to talk about Saturday night... so i will give my personal opinions.
kudos to FCAHS for making finals.. that was a shocker, but it was a good change.
South Jones... yall freakin rock. I will never get tired of seeing your show this year.
Most of the smaller schools seemed to perform worse than last week to me(Gautier,Hattiesburg etc..)
Oak Grove... your band completely overkilled your vocals. I heard almost nothing but drums and a guitar the entire show..
Northeast Jones, Your vocals were a little better than last week, but there were still some things that annoyed me. first thing, during the beginning of the acapella part during the ballad it is very hard to follow all of the sections singing different words. No one can understand what you are saying. Secondly, i freakin love "Can't Get Next to You." it's great!.."Crazy in Love" needs some help vocally.. and the whole rapper thing?!? It's entertaining, but not very appropriate for show choir. "Let Me Entertain You", very energetic, and yall perform it very well. Please don't take any of this offensively because overall yall are great and i admire how hard yall work, I just think you are more entertaining to watch, but not exactly an impressive choir.
West Jones, okay yes I freakin think your show is AMAZING!! During the prelims yall performed good, I was just a little disappointed.. it seemed as if some of you were not really into it,and i heard one voice overpowering evryone throughout different points in the show, but during finals yall were incredible!!!!!. "Trouble" makes me want to get up out of my seat and dance the dance break every time!! Your ballad is one of the best i have heard so far. It's in my top three favorites of all time. "Got to Be Real" is freakin cool. It kinda reminds me of when Clinton did "Time of the Season"(i think that is the name of it)and "I'd Die For You" is a great closer. The outfits are great, and overall, Yall deserved to be 1st runner up. I don't see what happened with that.but.. I'm not going to get into that right now.
sassy, cute show, I love when yall performed "Hurt".
I feel so much better now that i got all of that out.. and everyone did great... No hard feelings about my comments please. I am just speaking my mind since no one else seems to want to.
There was a mixup during awards. South Jones actually got Vocals, Choreography, and Overall Effect.
How did you find this out, because all the spectators in the auditorium were in total shock at the out come of all the caption awards if this is correct that would make it better.
Also, I guess having Mike Weaver make an apperance in the audience could make Northeast Jones try harder.
We all decided that the Jones County Schools decided to drive almost two hours to have a showdown.
Final Results

1st RU: Northeast Jones (Choreo)
