Hey johnsaloser you have a right to your opinion just like I have a right to mine. I don't see where I bashed anybody except Belmont for what went on Saturday. If its your opinion that its hard work to ride a bike across stage and for a guy to put on a pink tutu then thats fine. How long do you think it took to put that in their show versus how long it would take to learn some really hard dance sequence? I personally didn't think that their show was the same level as that of the other four in the finals. You can be diffrent and not like everybody else like say a group such as Greece Athena and be really good. In my opinion thats not what I got out of the show from Capitol Sound. I never said they were horrible or anything like that just that to me the level of difficulty was not up to that of the other groups from the chorography standpoint, and a good show choir judge would easily recognize that. By the way I admit I am holding Belmont to a higher standard than I would most HS comps, as they have more judges than most HS comps. I even thought several of the girls groups were better, once again thas just my opinion. Your the one using the bad language not me. I called no one a name what about you? To the person who stated that the young lady from Belmont was highly qualified because she has worked with Company for several years, well that dosent mean a lot to me, they sing very well but I have never seen them do anthing up to the level of some the best HS show choirs as far as choreo goes, once again just my opinion. John I guess you can let some of the new kids read your post so they can learn how to make a quality one! By the way I forgot to ask were you at Belmont this weekend? I posted what I did because I know that most of the posts on here are from students and their directors would not want them posting anything that might be taken as negative, so most of the time on here all you get is man everybody did great and everbody costumes looked good, and boy your show was terrific. I thought that their might be some who wanted to know some of what went on from somebody who wasn't afraid to post what they saw and had the liberty to post it. To close this out you might want to reread the original post if you think I didn't say any good things, I said a number of good things about Belmont.s Comps of the past. I still think its well run and it was unfortunate they had mic problems, but a lot of the rest and some I didn't post they chose how those things were done, and I hope if they recieve some negative feedback and review what happened they will handle them diffrently in the futrue. They know their facility has no backstage space and little on the wings, so if they want groups that use some of the better props to come, they need to be willing to try and work with them to some extent, hopefully they will next time. Fire away.

At Homewood, we have recently had a lot of people join SCC, and we have had a few discussions about what to post and what not to post. Thanks for being an excellent example of what not to post. Stop bashing other groups and their shows. There's a fine line between sharing your opinion and being a ****head.

Well Choir Jock, were you in the same auditorium as the rest of us on Saturday! Capitol Sound was not even in the same league as the rest of the groups in the finals. To use their name in the same sentance with Company, Centerstage, Wave Connection, or Imagination is an insult to those groups! Pink TUTU's....enough said!

QUOTE(scfan2 @ Feb 26 2007, 07:28 AM) 388497
Now to the judging, I can only assume that show choir was new to some of the young Belmont grads that were serving as judges, as anybody who has watched show choir for any amount of time can tell a well thought out and chorographed show. Well imho a show that contains people riding bikes across the stage and girls doing cartwheels while wearing their opening dress, as well as a guy wearing a pink tutu, well each group can put what they want in their show but to me it should be obvious to the judes that those things are amature at best and not what top level show choir groups include in their shows. Yet this group made the finals as well as their girls group placing in their division. All I can figure out is this year Belmont must have wanted the local groups to do well and I'm sure it would be nice for them to have more participation from local groups, but if this is the kind of entertainment they want to reward then they can look for a fall off in attendance as its not the level of show I wish to see. I know this is long and it dosen't even cover all that was messed up and I have tried hard to just state the facts and be objective, I don't think anyone would have been supprised if Albertville or South Jones had of won instead of Tupelo, that wouldn't have been a shock. I for one am sadden that a once great competition was reduced to what I saw Saturday.

AWWW Thanks! We really appreciate all the nice things y'all have to say it really means a lot. I just wish that everyone could just be friends and that all choirs had fun and there was no stressing about who is taking what trophy home. We just need to get on stage and do what we can and let our desire blaze a trail to the judges hearts! (so cheesy i know)!

I am waiting on the day when everyone can just appreciate what the group brings to the stage and acknowledge all the hard work they put into their show. I just think sometimes we spend way to much time trying to find stuff to criticize when I know kids, myself included, would like to hear some positives after all those weekend practices, school rehearsals and TIME during school they put into this. Sometimes we need to look outside the box and thank people for bringing interesting stuff to stage, because without creativity, show choir would not have come about. THIS IS NOT TO AFFEND ANYONE...I JUST SEE IT AS FOOD FOR THOUGHT, TAKE IT OR LEAVE IT, thank you!

If there is a video of the pink tutu group I would love to see it. If someone could link to YouTube that would be great. I don't know, but as a director it is nice to sometimes see new things to generate ideas that might work for future shows. Especially if it is novelty, but I don't know what the case was here. I don't want to pass judgement on the tutu group. I'm just interested!

Was Albertville @ Belmont in '02?

hmm...yes I believe so. I wanna say that was their "groovy" year and their 1st show with Mike Weaver. If memory serves, they went pretty early in the morning so I didn't get to see them.
