The reason I put Norwell so high is, cause Norwell is amazing this year. After not making finals at Center Grove and going to Fairfield OH and making finals at possibly one of the hardest competitions in the Midwest, that little group deserves some recognition...they are good and if anything is right in the world they will place very well.
Fairfield OH will win this easily. It's a toss-up between LJ and HN for 2nd and 3rd cause LJ is the 2 time defending Champ...and for some reason *cough cough their name cough cough* they always win, even when they aren't the best choir there.
I really think that the Norwell girls are unstoppable this year. They can sing EXTREMELY WELL and I think they will pull out a win to end their competition season.
And TCS, just because everybody's doing it doesn't make it right. The fact is that it does affect things. If they try to not appear partial and are harder on their group, how is that fair to their group? If they are partial and are easier on their group, how is that fair to the other groups?
As I said, almost every single contest has judges that are connected to at least one of the groups they're judging. I'm sure it's hard enough to get qualified judges to judge a contest any given weekend, let alone a full panel that has no connections to any groups going. Including "rival" schools.
My point wasn't that it makes it okay, my point was that it's a necessary evil due to the reason listed above. I also stated that judges are professional enough not to give unfair advantages (or disadvantages) to groups they're connected with.
Did you even read my whole post?
I'm certainly not playing devil's advocate here, and I definitely see where you're coming from, but you have to look at this as from a logistical point of view.

Wow...*blinks* So many choirs.
You guys will definitely have a busy day. =)
This competition will be our last of our season....so, I'm kind of half excited and half dreading it. =/
Ally.
Aww dont worry, I promise it will be a memorable day and totally worth it, win or not. even though im hosting it was definitely one of my favorite competitions last year =P
I fail to see how someone with a conflict of interest would be a good thing.
No matter how much they say they are impartial, they aren't.
And TCS, just because everybody's doing it doesn't make it right. The fact is that it does affect things. If they try to not appear partial and are harder on their group, how is that fair to their group? If they are partial and are easier on their group, how is that fair to the other groups?
Also, there is a difference between being a former director and still being an employee of the school. When you are being paid by a school and judging them...it just doesn't work.
No good can come of having a judge that is associated with any of the present groups.
Mr. Coates treats us like any other show choir, he is not the type of person that pick "favorites" If he was do you think that they would be having him as a judge while zionsville is going...and how do you know the judge list. PLEASE POST IT!!!!!
Aaron Coates is a music director at Zionsville, but he does not teach the show choirs. If anything, A director from a competing school should be harder on their own school, since they know the talent and what they are capable of.
I don't see a conflict of interest reflecting any serious deviation in the scores.
If you're well-informed and have been around a while, you'll know that almost every single contest has judges that are connected to groups they're judging... be it their choreographer, clinician, former director, arranger, etc.
For instance, Aaron Coates directed Triton Central for several years in the 90's, and Triton Central will be competing as well.
I think the judges are a little more professional than to give an unfair advantage to someone just because they have connections. It's just high school show choir, it's not like there's going to be any major incentives for a judge to give an unfair advantage to certain groups.
I hope Aaron Coates is actually judging this year as someone said, I had him for 7th grade choir way back in the day " border="0" alt="laugh.gif" /> . He got me started in vocal music, he was the best teacher I ever had.
Alas, I digress. Best of luck to all competing groups! I can't wait to see the schedule and line-up!
So what do you guys think of Zionsville being there, with Aaron Coates as a judge. For those of you that don't know who Aaron Coates is, he is the music department chair at Zionsville High School. At Zionsville he also teaches the beginning choir and chamber choir. To me judging a choir from your own school is a conflict of interest. Just curious what opinions are on this.

What do Tara's scores for Lafayette Jeff have to do with FC's placement? I am not here to insult you, Scott, but merely to present accurate information. Do you really think I have time to make up scores?
Tober- Carroll/LJ/FC and Norwell (tie)/Southmont/Noblesville (before someone cries foul, the composite shows the FC/Norwell tie as 4th rather than 3rd)
I tried to scan this info for you, Scott, but my scanner can't fit an 11x14 sheet. My apologies. Let's be done with this.
Chris Brush
Chris you are right and i should not have questioned a judges Information or accuse them of lying, Though you of all people know why i would suspect YOU of trying to Call me out. Though i honestly didn't remember that you were a judge, nor did i remember their being 8 judges... Your information was correct and My posts were only information i had received from peers and i was wrong to assume them true. My apologies.

But i also know that those are not the final scores... the point Margin between the 2 was less than 2 points... and that spread would have put it Far far from that...Not only that but Mr. Chris Brush... you stated in FC's scores that tara tober had FC in 4th (Tie).... And then you said she had Laff jeff in 2nd... Obviously you just made these up to spite me personally on an Honest mistake in judgement
