What a CRAZY competition! By far, the most interesting I've been to all year.

AH!

Plus I met some freakin cool people, and had a blast... it was hysterical.

However, moving onto shows.

Kennedy - You guys get better everytime I see you. From the horrible preview show to this AMAZING finals performance. Honestly, I knew you guys were going to make finals, and was hesitant to say you were going to win. However, while you were performing at night I turned around and said "I'd give first to Kennedy." You took first place at a very heated comp, so congrats!

Cedar Rapids Washington - I've never been a huge Washington fan, and so I wasn't really enthusiastic to see you. However, I was surprised at how capable your choir is, and was really impressed with you all. Congrats on second place!

Linn-Mar - You all have such an interesting show! It's so diffferent from anyone I've seen this year. That can hurt you, and help you. Considering the fact that you were 1st, 7th, and 9th according to the three judges in day round... I say third place is a kick ass comeback, and you deserve it. I love your energy in the closer, and you have some AMAZING choreo. Great job today!!!

Troy - I love how visually pleasing your choir is... I thought your showmanship was amazing... and do I think you suffered so much in vocals as to bring you down to fourth place? No, not really. However, everyone has their lackluster finals performances... but who cares. This competition was crazy, and the judging was a little... inconsistent... You were a GREAT choir... THANK you for coming so far up to grace us with your presence.

Iowa City High - I love your novelty, it's cute. I have to say I wasn't a fan of the show when I saw you at Milton, but when listening to you in the day round I turned to my friend and said "wow have they improved." Especially in your vocals. Congrats on your placement.

CR Jefferson - I..... loved..... your..... show. While watching you in day round, I was saying "HOLY CRAP!!" Your diction.... AMAZING. Your choreo, AMAZING. Your everything, amazing! I personally had you in first in day rounds. However, something happened at night. I am sure that you all know what it is better than I. Placement aside, I think you are one of my favorite choirs of the year. I've never been a Jefferson fan...until now. Wow! Great show.

Special mention - Xavier, you kicked butt. Regardless of your "cursed" day, I was very impressed with your show. Great... Great job.

CRAZY COMPETITION!!!!!!!

Sleep time for me now.... !

day time results

1st-Kennedy
2nd-Troy
3rd-Iowa City and Linn-Mar
4th-Jefferson
5th-Washington
6th-Xavier
7th-Prairie
8th-Davenport North

I'm not sure this is correct. I was told that we were 4.5 points away from I.C. High, which was (apparently) the last group into finals. This may be incorrect but that was the information I was given, or at least I was under the impression of. " border="0" alt="huh.gif" /> Maybe someone was mistaken, I don't know. Someone will have official results soon.

Our show didn't go so well today. It just seemed like the day was, in our director's word, cursed. Our buses arrived late (one of them 45 minutes late) and hit a snowbank. The power supply to our keyboard was misplaced, causing us to be forced to use an actual piano. Our All-State speech members (myself included) made it to the Adler well on time, but we were still missing 4 people for various reasons. With the judges' having a bird's-eye vier of the stage, blocking becomes more major in your show, and we lacked in that department. Of course, the biggest mishap had to have been the "columns of death" - the white columns we use as our set came crashing down right before our closer (almost killing our synth player, or something) as they were bumped into. I just don't think karma liked us today. pinch.gif

Best of luck to all groups in finals, and congratulations to our favorite hosts of all time from Benton for winning class 3A!

MIDDLE SCHOOL COMPETITION

GREAT RIVER

RESULTS-

1st- Sauk Prairie "Middle Level Motion"
2nd- Cedar Rapids Prairie "Ovation"
3rd- Cedar Rapids Taft "Kids From Taft"
4th- Cedar Rapids Regis "Eclipse"
5th- West Deleware "Sforzando"

Other Competitiors- (did not make the top five)
Vernon "Velocity"
Cedar Rapids Wilson "StarFleet"
Cedar Rapids Roosevelt "Regeneration"
Cedar Rapids Harding "Keys"

People's Choice- Sauk Prairie "Middle Level Motion"

Interesting to watch some wonderful middle school show choirs.

The two most interesting things of the night were most likely Cedar Rapids Regis's ballad "Blue Skies", which was the exact same arrangement as La Crosse Central "Grand Central Stations" in 2006. It was a bit "watered down" (understandably) but they performed it extremely well!
The second interesting thing was the amazing soloist from Sauk Prairie. He was phenomenal.

Great River is going to be a blast!

I do want to post this WARNING/CAUTION before everyone complains...
If you have bad experiences with some of the theater attendants at the Adler... please understand that these evil minions are in no way representing West, Central, or the competition. They are payed by the Adler theater to do their jobs, and quite frankly they love to be evil while doing them. They will yell at you for the dumbest things. If they do, either A) Ignore them and flee. B.) Mace them. or C) Act as if you speak a different language. I apologize for anyone that has a bad experience, but remember... we do not choose these people, and they do not represent anything anyone at West and Central stands for.

I can't wait to see tomorrow's competition. Adam Miller and I at my home waiting with anticipation.

Um, Yah. There is definitely a buttload of snow outside!

Oh, and you guys have to check out the Skybridge, it's so cool, and lights up with different colors at night. Sorta like my monkey avatar.
