Was 2003 the year Bemidji made finals at Onalaska?

Well, sadly, I'm not too young for it. My brother was in it wsd from '02-'04 so we went to some of the comps with him...perhaps I am thinking of Onalaska? Oh well.

Were you possibly thinking about Linn-Mar's competition last year? I'm pretty sure that is the only time you have not made finals since Onalaska in 2003 (but you would be too young for that)

Maybe you were thinking of something from last year?

That's so wierd, because we were all talking about River just this week...and we all could have sworn we lost horribly. Maybe it was a different competition? All I can see in my mind was the look of the whole Jefferson crowd, sitting with a horrid look of defeat draped across everyone's faces. I'm going to have to go through all of my programs and see what competition I'm thinking of. At least now I feel like an idiot! I was afraid I'd gone a whole day without that. lol.

Grand Champion: Mt. Prospect (2005)

Amazing group. They were like a wall of sound. I had to brace myself. I hope I get to see them again. All I remember is that they did "Together We Can" and I was in love with it. Does anyone know where they're going this year?

The thought has crossed many people's minds to rename "Great River", "Cedar Rapids Fest"... I think the city of Cedar Rapids should proclaim February 17th, 2007 to be their "No Show Choirs Day", since the entire city will be show choir free!

HAHA!!! True... Wouldn't it be easier to have it at the Paramount? The Cedar River is next to it, the name of the venue wouldn't have to change. lol

As a whole, the department was pretty upset. We got slaughtered that day. I mean, we didn't deserve probably top 3 or 4, but we were quite a few groups away from making finals if I remember correctly. Hopefully we'll do better this year. The director's way nice and he's kind of awesome at pep talking us into performing our best. But yeah, Adler got renovated? Sweet, I'm stoked to see it. What all's new?

As Jay pointed out... you did make finals at "Great River" 2005, 2nd in the day round and 4th Runner Up at night. Jefferson has attended "Great River" three times... and has never NOT made finals (1st Runner Up in 2003, Grand Champion in 2004)

Yes... the Adler was renovated. The stage was expanded so now it won't be so cramped! New dressing rooms, props lift, etc. were also installed.

Cedar Rapids show choirs should all shoot to make it a 100% CR "Great River" finals. In 2004, out of the 7 finalist groups, 5 were CR groups from 4 of the CR high schools. (Prairie, Kennedy (both groups), Jefferson, Washington) ((the other 2 being Iowa City High and Davenport North))

GREAT RIVER 2007-

Cedar Rapids Kennedy
Cedar Rapids Jefferson
Cedar Rapids Washington
Cedar Rapids Prairie
Davenport North
Iowa City High
Linn Mar
Xavier

More to come!

There wasn't a Great River in 2006 to "take a year off" from anyways. The Adler was under renovation, so we had to cancel the competition. That was my senior year. But, we are back for 2007.

Just curious though, did you not agree with where you were placed?

Yeah, we're coming. I think we kind of had to take a year off to lick our wounds from '05. Everyone was a little upset that year. But, alas, we will be returning (thank god!)

Cedar Rapids Jefferson also has "Great River" on their competition schedule online... but I am waiting for someone to confirm it on here so we actually know. I've found that online schedules can sometimes have wrong information and are not always up to date. It's a good lesson for us all to learn.

Thanks for starting this topic... but I was waiting a bit to post some further information on the competition and some of the specifics. Troy's online schedule does in fact say that they are attending... but I'm not sure. In the next two weeks I will be posting a new topic that was similar to the old one.

For now... these groups have confirmed on SCC that they are attending-
