Rumor has it that during the prelims Albertville and Petal had the same exact score the only reson Petal won is because Albertville ran over time thirty-three seconds... does anyone know what really happened with that??!!? if so that freakin sucks becuse Albertville deserved that first place title... anyway i am not going to get into that...
i would love to know where homewood got outfits...LOVED the gold dresses and LOVED the guys jackets at end of show...GOOD JOB and west jones...loved it...verry abstract and i am into that...had fun and i hope to see you all at Opelika
Oh yeah and one more thing.....Johnsaloser...I was sitting behind some of the girls from the Legacy the ones you were singing to during finals and I just have to say that that was absolutely hilarious and totally made my day....and Legacy girls that I met ya'll are soo great! It has only been a few years since we were able to count 2 years of show choir as your 1 P.E. credit (required to graduate). It's all about football here, too! The tides are turning now, especially since we have 4 football players in our show choir this year, but the coaches really give them a hard time.
Because Show Choir practice is after school, and so is football, it's not an option for our football players. Our show choir recently performed their "Canned Heat" song at the school talent show as an exhibition and they received HUGE applause. VOC is starting to make a name for itself at the school and in the community and starting to win the respect of the non-choir students!

It would be great if they made Show Choir a class because then they would at least get a tiny bit of funding, not to mention more practice time. I think our only hope for raising a bunch of money is to find us some sponsors.
We are learning and growing each year. Our school has only been open for 3 1/2 years. Next year we are hoping to have show choir count toward PE credit so the kids' schedules will be easier to handle. I'm sure you would agree that show choir is as much or more exercise as any PE class. They are also required to take a regular choir class to be in VOC, as well as take private voice lessons. VOC is truly the ambassador for our choir program. They are the best of the best in choir at CHS. And they are a great bunch of kids.

Personal Opinion - it was all down hill from the second half of your ballad to the end for me. Major pitch issues in the ballad and the girls number was REALLY trashy!

We do lots of fundraisers throughout the year. Our biggest is our Sonic carhopping for tips and our Booster Club sells Otis Spunkmeyer cookies during lunches. VOC hosts a few "shows" at the school as well to earn money. But one competition trip is almost $6000. That's alot of cookies. And the money goes for lots more than just show choir. Also, show choir is an after school program, which means it gets NO FUNDING from the district.
We also have 130 choir students with a full choir program. This weekend our kids will compete in the "UIL Solo and Ensemble" choir competition. Four of our choir students (who also happen to be a part of our Voices of Central Show Choir) are going to "All State" next month. They competed against thousands of students throughout the state for the honor of making the All State Choir. One of them is Kim, who sang the solo in "A New World", VOC's first song. Another is Remi, who sang "A Foggy Day" solo.
Another BIG event our VOC kids participate in is the annual school musical. This year they performed the "Wizard of Oz". It was amazing, with flying witches and monkeys, a flying balloon basket and a wicked witch that melted on stage. The musical takes two full months out of their show choir practice schedule.
Voices of Central will be performing at other local events, as well as a few shows at their home school, and at the DC Festival in Dallas in April. We are looking into the possibility of going to FAME in San Antonio this April.
As you can see, these kids have a very busy life. But Show Choir is their first love, and the boosters hope to help them compete more in the future.
The kids absolutely LOVED coming to the South Jones Invitational. We thank everyone that made us feel so welcome. Many were cheering for us and had kind remarks about our performance. We really appreciate your southern hospitality.

I'm always surprised that the state of Texas doesn't have more show choirs. And, considering the fact that it is expensive for you guys to travel to compete and only go to one competition a year, it's harder to improve alot year after year. My advice would be to do some serious fund raising (Fruit sales, Candy, Donuts, Carwashes, etc) so that you can attend at least 3 competitions a year. The more you perform, the better you get.
Glad to see a new face at the competition though, and please come back.
Congrats to all the winners who in my opinion were ALL the groups that came! I saw every show of both days and I would like to thank all for coming!

Even though we worked like 50 hours during the comp, It was worth it!! I was in the sound booth all day watching and working... I was privaledged to spin the Macarana for yall!! It was fun!!

Hi there........I'm one of the Texas moms that went on the LONG bus ride to Ellisville. It was sure worth it though. I got to see our kids compete for their first time ever!!!!! Our prayer was that nobody would freeze up or puke from nervousness. Watching our kids, we cried and screamed and hollored all at the same time. I thought they were amazing, and all the parents are so proud of them.
For all of ya'll who were curious about this Texas group. Our show choir, "Voices of Central" is from Central High School in Keller, Texas (just north of Fort Worth). We were lucky enough last year to get a new choir director from Nebraska, another area where show choir is big. Jen Randall is wonderful and we all lover her. We are literally the only competition show choir in Texas...... so far. Other schools have what they call a show choir, but are more madrigal (????) They don't dance.
Unfortunately, due to the distance and cost for us to get to these competitions, we were limited to one competition this year. We're hoping to do more next year. But it was a wonderful experience for our kids, and even though they didn't place, they were thrilled for the opportunity and excited to be there with all the pros. They'll learn from the judges comments and hopefully do better next time. As Bethany said (she's the one that lost the fight for the teddy bear), our show is a bit different. But we like it that way, and hopefully, that's not what the judges dinged them on. They just need a little more experience. Watch out for them next year!!!!!
I think it's going to be really hard for anyone to beat Pascagoula this year....they sang 6 part harmony for most of their show and even in the girls and guys numbers it sounded like they sang 3 parts....vocally they are extremely strong...dynamics were amazing...and their choreography was all together I loved the head pops in the guys number it made it so much more dramatic and engaging....good luck at all of your other competitions Pascagoula!!
Homewood you have a wonderful show! your choreography was all together...and many of you looked like you were genuinely having fun....your vocals were wonderful as well...I had you in the top 3 on my list...Good luck with all of your other competitions you have a wonderful show and I look forward to seeing you again at Opelika
