Anyone have the points breakdown for the finals?

I don’t believe this contest releases points in finals, but for the rankings at least, I believe two judges flipped their first and second place votes, but the overall rankings for first and second were 3-2. I don’t know that, but based on the info I have, that’s what I believe the rankings were.

In the past, they have not scored finals, but just done rankings.

That would be difficult for me. Like, I could justify giving either caption and either placement to Linn Marr or Homewood. Homewood’s performance today was the best I’ve ever seen out of a non-Clinton southern group, with zero close seconds. Linn Marr’s performance was equally impressive to me. But, without a scoresheet, I don’t really know that I could easily justify the placement of either group because they are so different.

Add Clinton to the mix, and it’d be even messier. To be clear, I’m not knocking Clinton here. Homewood, Linn-Marr, and Clinton gave the three best performances I’ve ever seen in person — and I’ve seen almost every big name group in the country live. The unfortunate truth is that only one group can win, but each of them deserved to. In my view, these are the top three groups in the country. Put them in whatever order you want. I look forward to seeing what next year holds for their programs.

Congrats, Linn-Mar! And, to all the other groups. Like others have said, how cool is it that each group is representing a distinct state?

Just a note of clarification: Scott Thorne didn’t win the Outstanding Director award, he won the Music Educator Lifetime Achievement award to celebrate his retirement.

Oak Mountain missing finals by .6 of a point has to be one of the closest show choir margins ever right?

By total points it would be:

1st- Linn-Mar (1135)
2nd- Homewood (1121.5)
3rd- Findlay (1097)
4th- Hastings (1062)
5th- Mt. Zion (1059)
6th- North Central (1058.5)
7th- Oak Mountain (1055.5)
8th- Olentangy (1028)
9th- Enterprise (1009.5)
10th- El Paso-Gridley (1002.5)
11th- Peoria (968)

These are all the judges points added up together. This is the total before dividing by 5 for each of the judges to get the average overall score as seen above.

I think they should've gave Oak Mountain the benefit of the doubt, and increased finalist to 7. The scoring was too close.

What benefit of the doubt should they have received? Was something off? I mean their show was AMAZING, but the points are what they are, right?

I mean I’d be down for more finalists here, but I gotta agree, it’s not right to add another finalist last second.

I agree. Id understand maybe if 1st-7th was separated by a point, but with Linn-Mar leading 5-7 by almost 100 points I dont see the need. Oak Mountain BY FAR had the most insane staging hands down tho.

Auburn 2019 and Homewood 2015 at this contest may have been closer (or similarly close), but I’m surprised they weren’t in finals. They were definitely one of the cleanest groups on the stage today — but that doesn’t always translate on the scoresheet, and perhaps the margin had something to do with the transitioning of props not occurring during a blackout as they typically did throughout the season. Not sure if that would make up the 3 total points (0.6 average points), but it would be unfortunate if that was the reason they missed finals.
