I never do this but I have to say, you may need to rethink the sound operator in the PAC for next year. I witnessed him be outwardly rude to a host of directors as well as parents and even scream at a young Norwood assistant. I found this behavior absolutely unacceptable and have made my complaint known on many forums. I would look into this in the future because the language used was not acceptable for a high school or middle school setting. Thank you.
Agreed. He was also disrespectful to one of our Assistant Directors and made an inappropriate comment regarding the mics. We will also be addressing our concerns regarding the PAC sound operator.
Agreed, he was yelling at a few directors and even said “You can move them and break them, I’ll just send you an invoice for the mics” absurd. I have already formally complained.
We are aware of this sound person for the PAC. This was our first time contracting out this person and he was also very rude to our directing team. Typically we use someone from our school but they were sick this whole week and were unavailable. We do apologize for the behavior towards the other directors.

Enjoying watching some great groups at the Fairfield Classic, but I'm confused. 9 of the 31 groups (29%) participating are single gender, but they cannot qualify for finals??? What gives? It seems like these 9 females groups are being penalized for being strong young women? Is there a reason why they can't compete or why the classic doesn't create a separate finals? If the organizers won't let them compete against the mixed groups, why not create another finals bracket? Surely the pool of 9 single gender groups is enough to pull from and anyone watching them perform this morning can't argue that talent on stage.
There’s another thread detailing this, but some of those women’s groups have doubles from their large mixed group, meaning that they would have to perform four times if both groups made finals. Two performances is taxing enough as a choir member. I had days when I performed with the band that I performed six times in one day — not fun in finals when you perform, go to warmup, perform again, go back to warmup, perform a third time. Now add a second venue to that, and it just becomes a logistical nightmare.
This has been discussed in previous comments on this thread. In summary, these 9 treble groups are being scored by different judges in different venues, so you can't fairly draw upon all 9 of them to create an overall treble finals in this instance. The Crystal Classic is two separate competitions under one roof (large groups in arena and small in PAC). Fairfield has had separate treble finals in years past; it simply just doesn't fit in the schedule this year. Final awards are already scheduled for 11:00 pm, and that's assuming everything runs on time. Theoretically, the Crystal Classic could look at adjusting their rules for treble groups to be eligible alongside mixed groups for overall finals in each venue. I'm sure the team at Fairfield will take in feedback from attending choirs in preparation for next year's Crystal Classic. This is the first year Fairfield has offered finals since 2019 and first time with Fairfield's new leadership team, so I think it's worth granting some grace. At the end of the day, the directors of these groups knew what they signed up for and that there wouldn't be finals. No one is being penalized; they voluntarily decided to attend this competition with the given format.
