Congratulations to the Peoria Area Performing Arts School (Soundwave) Olivia Vicary for winning 1st place Grand Champion in the solo competition! Does anyone know who received 1st & 2nd runner up in the Bishop Dwenger Invitational solo competitions? Congratulations to them!!

Much has been said about 2004 Onalaska (yes, looking at you, Jorge ) , but the fact remains that Westside won best vocals and didn't make finals. They were 9th! It's the magic of show choir.

Not sure if magic is the word I would use. That Onalaska situation is also interesting. I would pay to see those score sheets.

I can't give you the scoresheets, but I can give you 382 comments and some retrospective about it. TLDR is that it was a once-in-a-generation stacked comp that was unfortunately beset with some judging controversy, which led to the weird 9th-plus-best-vocals deal even with the scores of a problem judge tossed out.

I'll just preemptively state that there are a lot of formatting issues on that page as it is now 18 (!) years old and the website has gone through a lot of changes since that time. I have made it a point to keep as much historical record around as possible (that's sort of the point of all of this), but there haven't been enough hours in the day to go back and fix all of the things that got broken from one iteration to the next. One day.

You can still totally read things but the quote system specifically is all wonky, so unless you're being really conscious about it, it can appear that one person is saying something (when they've really just quoted someone else). Just bear that in mind.

There's an incredible amount of history here, and we didn't even get started until the early 2000s. What I'd give to be able to go back and read people's reactions to competitions in the 70s and 80s!

now that wouldn't be fair would it :D
I've seen best vocals in 5th 4th and 3rd.
they probably had best vocals in prelims and got a new score sheet for finals.
But you should try to keep the love and joy and fun in show choir!

Due to a small scoring error, Maple Creek MC Singers actually captured the Best Music caption in our Middle School division. Congratulations!

Other results were not impacted by this error.
