Results are posted. Feel free to add in any of the soloist names. Also, not sure if they announced or if I just missed who won Best Band in Mixed Tier II. Nice job, Fairfield, stepping in to host a competition on short notice!

Does anyone know how caption awards are working? Are they by size division or overall for mixed?

I would assume by size division. That's how everyone else has done it so far this season.

I just want to hop on here and say THANK YOU to Ben Kambs and the Fairfield show choirs for hosting all of us today. The staff, students, and parents were amazing, supportive and so kind to our kids. For those that don’t know, Mr Kambs stepped in to host this contest only a few weeks ago after another contest was cancelled due to covid concerns.. Not only have they never hosted before, but all the planning happened in a very limited time. And as a director, I never would have guessed that from how smoothly things ran. Andrew Sherman worked with many of us in NE IN to devise a format consistent for each contest. He and Ben Kambs are THE reason we all had a place to perform today. So, thank you Ben and Andrew for working together to create this opportunity for us

Can someone explain to me why the Homestead director has been working the competition all day? I notice they perform last. From an outside perspective it’s looking like things are being pushed in their favor.

Very good question. I would be interested in hearing the reasoning behind it.

If I had to guess, I’d just assume that Homestead’s director is helping out to keep the competition running smoothly simply because this is Fairfield’s first time running a competition during an already abnormal season, while homestead’s competition is a very well established, smooth running operation every year. Of course, I’m not an official in any way but I doubt that there’s any “foul play” going on here. Homestead has a history of being very hospitable and helpful to fellow show choir programs!

I expect homestead to win or at least do very well at this comp with how good they are. So I do not think things are being pushed in their favor but more just that the director is trying to help Fairfield. I am not saying that Homestead will most definitely win of course and any group can come through and win the day but homestead is excellent this year.

Being someone that was on a student committee as my program launched a comp, I can most definitely say that it’s daunting - we were in constant communication with other directors/competition committees. I can’t imagine how COVID exacerbated the situation. Obviously I’m not there and can’t speak to this situation personally but it wouldn’t surprise me at all to see the head of a long-tenured and highly successful competition give a helping hand to another competition that will hopefully also be long-tenured and highly successful, and it just happens to be on the day of the event.

Edit: They did this in three (3) weeks? I thought it was a crunch at times to fit things in 14 months! Props to all involved for giving students more opportunities to perform this year, fantastic job on such short notice!

Andrew Sherman, assistant director of Homestead Show Choirs, is friends with the director of Fairfield and from what I know, they asked him to help with tech. In the past, he has also been known to help out with Garrett Show Choir in 2017. He has helped kickstart and help out with competitions in the past. Also, best of luck to all choirs, everyone has done very well from what I have watched on the livestream!!!!

All good points about Homestead helping out but it’s a little different helping with a competition and helping with a competition your own group is attending.

Predictions

Mixed Tier 1
GC: Homestead Class Royale
1RU: Carroll Minstrel Magic
2U: Chesterton Sandpipers

I'm very surprised that Carroll has not won any visual caption awards this season. Their set this year is probably one of my personal favorites of the season. With that being said, Homestead is also incredibly strong this year and they did win the GC title over Carroll at Huntington North this season. I'm super excited to see how this shakes out!

Mixed Tier 2
GC: Norwell Knight Moves
1RU: Columbia City City Heat
2RU: DeKalb Classic Connection

Single-Gender Tier 1
GC: Homestead Elite
1RU: Carroll Select Sound
2RU: Chesterton Drifters

Single-Gender Tier 2
GC: Norwell Knight Stars
1RU: Columbia City City Lights
2RU: Huntington North Viking Volume
