This competition will be fascinating. Decatur has never faced FC Singers or Electrum, and FC singers has only faced Electrum once, and they were only one place behind them. Fishers seemed to overperform last year when compared to previous years which makes me lean Singers over Electrum. Decatur is a power but when a group as small as them loses their two best singers, as well as several more of their most talented members, I wonder how they will fare in their first competition. Then there is a gap between the top three and the next two. While Lawrence is the clear community choice for 4th place ahead of Soundwave, Soundwave was ahead of them by the end of last year. It'll depend on how both teams show out in the first competition. It will be very interesting to see how the top 5 shape up. I won't rank the bottom two but here is my prediction for the top three.
Mixed Tier 1
GC: FC Singers (BV)
1RU: Electrum (BC)
2RU: Decatur Elite Energy
FC Singers have competed with Elite Energy over the years when the group was housed at Eisenhower. While Elite Energy now exists as a community group, it's considered an extension of EEE. Similar with Franklin Central and Fishers - they've undoubtedly attended competitions together in the past, but that was when Fishers was Tier II. Even though they were separate tiers, they probably technically competed for finals spots against one another at some point.
I only share that as I'm constantly reminded with my own research and the contribution of others on here of the long and extensive history of show choir. I get what you're saying, though, and I appreciate your rundown! It's always fun when folks describe their predictions. You make valid points as these programs haven't gone head-to-head in recent years and a lot has changed in recent history with Franklin Central ascending as one of the nation's best, Fishers program has grown at an immense pace in such a short time, and Decatur has found their footing as a community group and usually seem to be a darkhorse despite their rich tradition of electrifying shows. Should be a tight competition with these fantastic choirs.
Thank you for the corrections! I got my data from the compare tool, which I know is still in beta and even says it's not entirely accurate. But even though these choirs are so close in proximity (relatively speaking), I'm surprised they haven't competed against each other as often. Really excited to perform and see how the top pans out. It should be close, regardless of the outcome.
Idk if I’m the only one who got really confused looking for a nonexistent “Decatur High School” when I first heard of Elite Energy (this was like 2018 and I didn't know the EEE legacy at that point)
Nonetheless, glad to see it’s listed as the Show Choir Complex now. Mr. Taylor was really insightful on Preaching To The Choir about how running a show choir as a 501(c)(3) is different and it really opened my eyes.
As someone who was in Fishers show choir for 3 years, we definitely competed and lost to FC plenty of times! Then there was the time in 2018 when Fishers groups were Tier 2. But even then we competed against them that year at Pike and the following year at FComm. I’m pretty sure FC and Fishers have only met in finals once though that being last year at Avon. FC, Fishers and Decatur is for sure going to be a very exciting battle where any group could come out on top!
Yeah on the schedule I was given it just said Decatur. I hoped Jeff would know who it was talking about lol. I knew Decatur, just got confused looking for a non existent High school
Jacob - I figured it was the compare tool! It's fun, isn't it? There are some limitations to it with tiers and finals. And Elite Energy is just a unique case as they're in our database with two separate entries (the high school, the community group).
Clovis - all good. There are a few Decaturs in our database, but only one Elite Energy. Besides, the schedule you posted was perfect! School name, choir name, division, and performance time?!? You'd be amazed how many schedules we get that are missing choir names, or divisions, or a combination. I don't think it's always intentional when directors make their schedules like that and omit that, but I think including that information publicly on websites, programs, etc. is important in the ongoing effort to educate show choir community members.
Does someone here know Electrum well? It's very impressive to go from tier II to beating FC Singers in just a couple of years. Do you expect them to compete at a similar or even better level to last year or take a step back? I know little about them and am genuinely curious. Thanks!
Being someone that has seen this group grow from 2018 when I was in it to now, I definitely think they have a chance. Ever since the current director took over in 2018, he really has changed that group around. They are a big powerhouse when it comes to vocals and their show this year does not disappoint with that. And they have really improved their choreography and took a risk using someone outside of Indiana. However, something that I saw from their performance from Spotlight is that they lacked energy. But obviously, this changes week to week. I have not seen FC Singers show this year, but I know I can expect amazing vocals and just as good choreography. I definitely think it will be a close one between the two groups.
Having seen their show this year. They will be on the same if not a higher level then last year. Also I was in the choir and have siblings in it so I know pretty much everything there is to know.
I get how bringing in someone not from Indiana can be considered a risk, but it’s Stephen Todd, for goodness sake. Dude is an absolute master at the whole choreography thing. I haven’t seen Fishers show yet this year but I believe it when you say the choreography kicked up a notch or two.
The group has gotten much better since it was formed five years ago. With last year being their first Tier 1 grand champion, with the program sweeping CG last year. The band, costumes, and the overall effect have significantly improved. With electrum beating FC at the end of the cut short season it will be interesting to see the placements this early in the season.
Interesting take. Avon got a new choreographer, it takes time to get used to that style. Jarad is fantastic. He also choreographs FC and a bunch of national top groups. Avon has grown a tremendously, however, I dont Think they will beat FC and LN has a solid show too.
