After advisement from both the School District of Janesville and the Governor of Wisconsin, the difficult decision has been made to cancel this year’s “Spotlight Spectacular”. More information has been sent to competing directors. Any further questions from students, parents, and fans can be directed to your school’s director. We are deeply saddened to have had this decision made for us, but we do agree that it is in the best interest of all students and their families. We hope to see everyone at next year’s event on March 13, 2021!

Irrational decision. The panic is far worse than the virus. The media has blown the virus way out of proportion in a deliberate attempt to crash the economy and influence the election. And the sheeple are falling for it hook, line, and sinker.

Yes, you’ve posted that these are “irrational decisions” multiple times on multiple threads. You’ve made your point. Move on. These are the decisions that have been made. Luckily for you, you haven’t had to make any of these difficult decisions.

As much as this sucks for the kids missing out on possibly their last contest of their seasons and maybe their competition in their show choir career, and as much as it sucks for the volunteers at Craig who have been working so hard to be ready for this competition, I respect the decision by the powers that be. I wish there was another option, but it would be irresponsible to move forward with the competition. Stay healthy, everyone.

OKAY So you made your point. Now I will make mine. I will second the fact that all of these random cancellations are "irrational decisions". And don't try to tell me to just move on, because I've already had to cancel any plans I had to do just that.

The cancellations are far from random.

Research suggesting that starting social distancing and cancellation of large gatherings even 1 day earlier could reduce total infections by up to 40%. Combine that with the fact that the CDC is projecting ~1% mortality and well over a million infections means that there is no event, much less show choir worth holding and risking the health and safety of entire communities.

This sort of aggressive approach to containment has been successful slowing the infection rate in both South Korea and China, the US is wise to follow suit. Also, many of the young men and women on these forums have grandparents and older family members attend the competitions. Is show choir really worth risking their health?

Enough with this “irrational decision” thing if you haven’t done any research and still believe this is as simple as a cold or a flu.

Manteno and John Hersey will no longer be attending. Apparently out of state schools are not being allowed to attend.

This is unfortunately correct. I can speak for the entire Janesville Craig program in saying that we are heartbroken at the district's decision to not allow out-of-state groups to attend. We are currently doing our best to ensure the health and safety of everyone involved, while also hoping to maintain this performance experience for students we know have worked so hard for so long. We have been in contact with the competing directors and will update everyone with more information as soon as we have more answers.

I am seeing many competitions being cancelled. It is very sad that all have worked so hard to show their talents, but the safety of all is the most important thing. It is a tough spot for the schools to be in, and I'm sure they are all making the best decisions they can with the information they have.

Predictions
GC: Fort Atkinson "South High Street Singers" (BB)
1RU: Neenah "Vintage"(BC)
2RU: Monona Grove "Silver Connection" (BV)
3RU: Milton "Choralation"
4RU: Manteno "Magic"
5RU: Neenah "Act II"
An explanation for the predictions:
Overall:
It is probably just me but, I think this year everyone in the top three spots is on an equal playing field. These three groups make up the top 10 best show choir in Wisconsin and, unlike the previous years where there are only one or three groups on top of the list (Like Onalaska in 2017, Craig 2017-2019, GCS 2000's-2018, And Logan 2019). Everyone in the 10 top could be debated as being the best group in Wisconsin. It just depends on the competition. So, truly I have no idea what is going to happen, which is awesome.

I definitely agree with this, it's gonna be very very close. Fort Atkinson started slow in the first half of the season and , in the second half of the season, they are so freaking powerful and their show is so fun to watch. I loved seeing them work hard and improve thorough the season to become the team they are now. These top three groups are going to have to show the judges who wants it most, because these three teams might even be in the top 5 show choirs in the state. All of them are equally talented, it is time to now see who has worked the hardest and improved the most.

Also, My Top 5 Wisconsin Show Choirs

1: Onalaska Hilltoppers
2: Neenah Vintage/Monona Grove Silver Connection
3: Monona Grove Silver Connection/Neenah Vintage
4: Logan The Class Act/ Fort Atkinson South High Street Singers
5: Fort Atkinson South High Street Singers/Logan The Class Act

In the beginning of the season this would've been an easy top 5, but now as the season is ending, so many teams have grew and are in competition with being in the top 5.
The ones that are A/B are too close to call for me.

Here are my Top 7 groups in Wisconsin
These are not in order of rank because I personally think that each group on this list applies to a certain niche.
For example; if you value storytelling in your show then Monona, Sauk, and Logan are going to be higher on your list. Or you may value captions (Vocals, Choreography, Band) then Holmen, Neenah, Onalaska, and Fort are higher on your list.
It is just a matter of opinion and what you value in a show choir show. But, this should be a testament to the quality of groups in Wisconsin this year.

-Onalaska
-Holmen
-Monona Grove
-Neenah
-Fort Atkinson
-Logan
-Sauk Prarie
